  1. I agree with you John, i really dont see why Hammond gets so much stick, a lot of people seem to think the only good players are ones that beat all 11 opposition defenders with a mazey run or bang in goals from 30 yards. None of our players have reached the levels of last season but he seems to be slated everytime he is less than very good.

  3. fans liked him though, Paul Jones maybe, everyone slagged him off but he was still in goal for Wales when he was 40 i think.

  5. I have to agree with you CEC. My first game was 25 years ago this weekend, our centenery game v Everton. So up until 2005 i had never known us to be in any other league. Looking at the clubs in the Championship there are probably 10 or so that could also claim they "belong" in the Premier league, you could also include Sheffield Wednesday and possibly Charlton in that group. Saints are in a group of about 25 clubs some of which currently in the premier league who could make a decent fist of it in the right circumstances. We wont ever be one of the very big clubs but there is no reason why given the fan base, stadium, investment etc Saints couldn't do what we have in the past, be a regular fixture in mid/top half of top flight and give it a damn good go at getting European football every now and again. I mean if Fulham can do it. This is why it is frustrating and embrassing being the thirs lowest place team in our region.
  6. Indeed, our results against the better sides that Season weren't that bad, drew twice with Arsenal, beat Liverpool & Tottenham at home, it was drawing at home with the likes of Charlton, Fulham & West Brom which cost us dearly, plus the amount of leads and late goals we conceded, two in injury time against 'boro, injury time equliser against Everton, two goal lead against Aston Villa, we even led Arsenal at Highbury that season going into injury time, but i can forgive that one. If we'd have held on in any of them we'd have stayed up on goal difference.
  7. and only Man City have got back to the top flight, what makes you so sure we will? There is a hell of a long way to go yet.

  9. I hardly remember him ever being mentioned, just the constant beratting of Pardews lack of plan B when we didn't win a game 10-0.

  12. Why this sudden anti Wilkins feeling? No one moaned about him when Pardew was here.

the scottish bloke was an absolute moron, almost claiming if people look at page three are likely to become rapists. That's him Brian Sewell, utter c*ck.
  14. that was laughable when people were saying he was too old for us, some people really are clueless. Just like Darius Vassell wasn't good enough for us!

interesting debate on the rights and wrongs of page 3 this morning on radio 5. Usual manufacturered collection, a femist, a wierdo who claimed that anyone that looks at it could go on to become a rapist, an art critic who had a comedy voice and then a few normal people who came in from time to time. What are peoples general thoughts on page 3. It is dated and sexist or is it still acceptable these days?
  16. The ones that boo him are generally the ones that dont have a clue about football. The ones that think the only good players are the ones that charge around at 10000 MPH jumping into tackles showing their commitment. He hasn't been on the best of form this season and TBH felt AC deserves his place ahead of him at the moment, however but he is very skillful and creative and weighed in with a few goals and plenty of assists lasr season. The problem with him is is that as a creative player when through ball or run comes to nothnig it makes him look bad, if he found the target with every throughball and beat his man every time he wouldn't be playing in league one. He is clearly a confidence player and needs to be managed properly, as Ince did and MK Dons and Pardew seemed to be doing.
  17. still a lot of money for a club in adminstration with debts of £110m is it not?
  18. and for 90% of our fan base we have been above Pompey, Reading, Brighton & Bournemouth for most of our lifetimes. For a club of our size to be below them is embarassing. Forget all this i am proud of my club, i love my club, get behind the team FFS nonsense, for a club like Saints to be below little Bournemouth, a club who in years gone by we have played friendliess against to help them stay a float and a division below Portsmouth and Reading, is embarassing. the tables dont lie, the only teams worse than us in this area are Aldershot and Oxford at the moment.
  19. talking of Pompeys players wages is Utaka still on £80k a week?
  20. BTW dont think for a minute i am anti police or pro hooligan, no the police aren't responible for the actions of individuals, but they are responsible for preventing and solving crimes. Given the mass of experience, publicity and funding that goes into policing football i simply think that their tactics on the day were wrong. It didn't make MR x shake the fence, it didn't make Mr Z throw a stone and jump around a lot, but given the amount of publicity and arrests this whole thing has been given and as someone that was there on the day and witnessed the Riot of Freeborn garages first hand, i'd like to know why they employed the tactics that they did, given it is something most other police forces decided it is not wise to do. I do think that they know they got it wrong and throwing people into prison for shaking a fence is the knee jerk reaction to this.
  21. I'd like too know, now they have their convictions, why they didn't do what every other police force in the country does and keep the away fans in. They were quick enough to claim the glory for the arrests, have the film crews follow them and enjoy all the publicity, they were quick to scaremonger with tales of how violent our youth are and they need to be crushed, they need to also explain their actions and why they thought letting two groups of fans who hate each other face each other within minutes of the final whistle was the correct course of action to take.
  22. In a football related case a few years back, it took over a year from arrest to bring the case to court, for most of that time the guys on bail had to stay in their house for three hours before and 2 hours after every time their team played a game regardless of if it was home or away. For some, this involved leaving work two hours early to make sure they met their bail conditions for an evening game being played 150 miles away. Half of the people on this trial were aquitted, for those that weren't their ban started on the day of conviction, ignoring the fact that they had already been effectively not only been banned but under virtual house arrest during match times for a year already. how is this right?
  23. Yes 2004. Ironically are we won away at Middlesbrough Redknapp came out and said "we had turned the corner" and also David Pleat said on radio he was "absolutely certain Southampton will stay up" we then go and lay down in front of Blackburn. We actually only won one more game all season, Norwich at home, which took a last minute winner. For me the game we got relegated was Villa at home, 2-0 up and crusing only to lost 3-2. After that any remaining confidence was well and truely crushed. The players looked liked frightened rabbits in the tunnel away to Pompey two games later. And we didn't win all out games in March, we won at home to Tottenham and away to 'boro but were smashed 4-0 at home by Man U in the FA Cup and only played two league games in that month.
  24. Shaun Ryder is the sole reason to watch that.
  25. Did you know profesional football also existed in this country before the Premier league began? Not that you'd know it from watching Sky Sports.
