Ike a few on here that 89/90 season was so memorable. We had a good attacking team scoring loads of goals. We absolutely smashed Liverpool who at the time were the all conquering team in the country. Le Tissier and Rod Wallace scoring goals for fun, Shearer breaking through, a team that would win by ourscoring the opposition. When we beat spurs 3-1 at White Lane in the cup you thought it might be our season. Typical saints though, lost to Oldham in the league cup quarter final, lost away to Liverpool in the FA Cup 5th round but did finish 7th in the league. it was also the season I started going with my mates from school, turn up on the day and pay to get in, all stood behind the goal, same place every week. Nah we don’t need a clone of Leo, with him and Fellows we’ve got two of the best wingers in the league both of which could probably play premier league. I can’t see a striker coming here to play as back up to Armstrong when we also have Archer and Stewart to come back (I know, I know) we’re pretty well stocked numbers wise but the defence is the issue for me, we always concede so got to sort that out, but can’t see any more defenders coming in as we have at least two for each position already.

Steven Davis is the most overrated underrated footballer ever 😂 I do agree with you but he is always on every lot of under rated players when it comes up on here. I agree with all What you say, it’s just funny how everyone seems to agree he was a really good player for all the reasons you mentioned but also that he was very underrated

It’s a shame about Aribo. When he joined I was quite excited. He was highly rated had been good at Rangers and started off pretty well but never really did much with us. Always thought he was better than given credit for but probably best for everyone he leaves and probably should have gone 18 months ago

They do, any opportunity to talk themselves up they’re all over it whenever there is a post on Facebook about us our them they first few posts are always from them either posting about how great they are or how bad we are. Imagine having that much of an inferiority complex.

Spot on i still think 4-2-3-1 with Jander/Downes/Charles and now Romeu as the two CMs is our best system but we seem wedded to 3 CBs so I guess that’s what it’ll be as a front 4 you’d struggle to get better than those 3 and Armstrong in this league. We’ve got loads of goals in us but which is just as well as we can’t keep them out at the moment

Matt Oakley, a very good, underrated player that we didn’t realise how good he was until injured. Key player in Strachans team. Another one they just did his job without an fuss and kept us ticking over I’m also going to say Kevin Davies, great first season. Then misused by us second time round played right wing iirc and was very much third or even forth choice striker behind Beattie, Pahars and then Ormerod. However went on to do very well at Bolton for many years

I watched him closely at Hull away as a mate of mine is a Boro fan and liked him although did say he can go missing. I thought despite the absolute abject team performance he was the only one trying to make things happen, whilst the rest just lumped it forward to Downs. He’s that sort of player who is technically very good but because he isnt rapid and obvious like Scienza fans will be quick to write off. Clearly a good player.
