Exactly. Massive chance to finish 5th this season. We aren't that far off but today isn't the reason we won't. I think Koeman and the players, whilst thrilled at the season, in the back of their minds will be a tiny bit disappointed when they reflect on the season as a whole that we didnt quite manage that as to beat the likes of Liverpool or Spurs over a whole season would be a great achievement.

They are a shambles. That they finish above us after our fantastic season just shows how tough it is for anyone to really upset the financial/historic order in the PL.

True but they will still finish above us even after a truely dire season. Fifth or Sixth was there for the taking this season. Its been fantastic nonetheless.

He said on Wednesday night that he wasnt even thinking about the fact its 300 games. Hopefully he has a good game but keeper situation a huge factor in us most likely finishing a minor amount of points behind Liverpool or Spurs.

Of course MLT would and possibly a handful of others but even the likes of Dodd or Benali wouldn't get a look in for any PL side in todays era, the pace of the game has moved on and the requirements are different. Not just for Saints, for anyone.

You are basically saying Austin would be a huge improvement on Pelle. I would say they are of similar level.

We had players in the 90s who played every week for us who now wouldn't get a sniff of PL football.

Plus our side now is miles better individually than our 2003 side under Strachan.

He is out of contract next summer and will obviously not want to be playing in the Championship so will definitely be moving and QPR not in a great position of strength to ask silly money. £15m is too much IMO.

Fair point, but lots have criticised Pelle and he has scored 15 or so.

I'm not quite sure on Austin to be honest. Would definitely score goals, but not sure his allround game is that great and generally I see him finishing stuff well rather than being a huge threat to defences in the way someone like Jay Rod was when fit. For 10m or so, its probably a good deal, but I wouldn't necessarily see him being the main striker for us. Depends where we see ourselves I guess. Liverpool/Spurs, who we have rivalled this season probably think Austin isn't quite of the quality they need. Would be a solid option to have though.

Both are good professionals who want to be the best they can be. I will wager you £100 that in three seasons time Morgan is not a "nobody" just because he has decided to leave Saints...deal?
