Within a top professional career you can't let 250 miles dictate major choices. I would have thought the fact that Adkins clearly wants him and has been after him a while must count for a lot, plus obviously money. We would hardly be likely to offer 7m to Burnley and then offer JR peanuts. Professional footballers like having their egos massaged and Adkins long term pursuit of him won't have gone unnoticed. If he really really wouldn't like to move south then his agent would have indicated so a year ago and we would have moved on. There is obviously a chance he wants to come, and don't forget Cork and Fox could have a role to play. But in his position, he might as well wait and see what else materialises...so it's up to Saints to make him sign by making the club as attractive as possible, which I am sure they are doing.

No bid is quite different from no talks. Pretty likely talks are taking place with a view to a bid. Re earlier posts, he might prefer to stay in the NW but Im sure Fox also did, and Im sure Guly would rather be in Spain or Brazil but Saints would be hard to turn down, and quite frankly, if JR wasn't keen on a move here it would be bizarre.

Yes...and we clearly want him and have done for a long time. His attributes would fit in well and might help us look less clueless when Lambert can't play. Hopefully can just get it done soon.

No. They wouldn't go from negiotating a contract with him one day to suddenly selling him the next. As of last night he was agreeing a new deal and played for Celtic vs Norwich. Got a feeling he would have an interest in the move, but is also strengthening his contract negotiation position with Celtic. Clever move.

Martin desparately needs a season loan at somewhere like Watford. He shouldn't get anywhere near the team next season and needs regular pro football to see exactly how much potential he has.
