  1. I definitely do not believe a degree is all that matters, as I said above I do not have one, I designed and set up my company's apprenticeship scheme because I believe there is to much emphasis on degrees. However I do not believe that attaining a degree turns you into some sort of privileged pampered wastrel. I do agree with you that there is a problem with the some degree courses that seem to have proliferated for no reason other than to hit the ridiculous 50% target. I don't know why you think your salary supports your credibility in this debate, as we have seen with the bankers financial reward does not confer wisdom.
  2. I dont know what industry you work in but either it or you are living far in the past. 20 years in the SM service taught me all I need to know about banter, it also taught me about respect, you obviously have none for our younger generation. I hope you don't need them to help you pee when you get past helping yourself, although I bet it would fuel some good banter.
  3. We don't have a stance theres no need the vast majority of the young today are not arrogant, unlike some older people I know.
  4. As an old style secondary modern boy (no degree) who now works as a Senior Manger in a high tech company (1200 employees) with 80% of the staff having a degree I have no experience of the scenario you paint. I have employed, mentored and coached graduates for the last 20 years and none of them have ever displayed such arrogance, my latest is first class from Cambridge , if they did they would be out the door.
  5. What a weird post, I am not sure I understand it; however it comes across as bitter and twisted. Are your views based on personal experience or plain old fashioned ignorance of the world and people with whom you have no contact.
  6. Mikey it is the usual sterotyping, ignore it and enjoy yourself.
  7. What I find amusing is the juxtapostion of this thread with the one ranting about UK Over population. SuperMikey is in the fortunate postion that he can travel widely and find work, go for it get out in the wide world and gain some life experience as well as work experience. It is a good job he is not a johnny foreigner trying to come here.
  8. My eyes are not closed, food security and water security are a global issue and whilst population density in a small geographic area is a factor it is very minor. Your issue of the chronic overpopulation in the South (What is your boundary definition of the South?) it is mainly casused by internal UK economic migration. It could be alliviated by the oppsoite of a Tory think tank proposal last year to move unemployed people from the north to the south, why not send them in the opposite direction however I am sure you value and enjoy your freedom to live and work where you choose, I certainly do and have no wish to deny that freedom to others.
  9. On what basis are you stating we are over crowded, the article relates to population density, I can relate to an overcrowded pub or club but I cannot relate over crowding to a country in the same way. Outside of the EU there are a number of countries who have greater population density than England. Is there an international standard against which over crowding can be judged, the UK is about 50th in world population density terms with some notably economically successful countries well above us. To answer your question, not quite directly i admit, nothing in the article gives me any cause for concern.
  10. Great post, sanity and a realistic understanding of our postion.
  11. That’s a contradiction as Malta is in the EU, also it states England when it is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland that is a member of the EU.
  12. Saints have always frustrated at the start of a season, it is something I find inexplicable it is a saint’s thing, whatever manager and team we have. It does test ones patience, we all want success, I left SMS on Saturday feeling very dejected, however after a couple of days of reflection I could acknowledge that we were the much better team and should have won. 2 league games is not enough to judge, no knee jerk reactions it very rarely gets you anywhere, remind me what was Norwich’s score on the opening day of last season.
  13. I am not sure what the Chelsea Pensioners situation has to do with anything being discussed here. The Hospital is a charity it is therefore the trustees of the charity who are responsible for the conditions at the hospital. Your obsession with Immigrants (a legal residency status in the UK as it has been for HUNDREDS of years e.g. before socialists), Spongers (also been around for HUNDREDS of years e.g. before socialists) and Socialists (no meaningful UK party) verges on paranoia. All three groups are small minorities used by right wing media and small minded little Englanders and the greedy as the scapegoat for all our ills; I wish it were that simple.
  14. Glad you didnt take the saints job then if you spend most of your work time posting on the internet (Its my lunch hour at the momnet).
  15. The amount of advertising at a ground does not necessarily reflect the total value of the revenue stream. Whilst I have no definitive knowledge of the rates every club in League 1 charges for advertising what I can see with my own eyes is that the vast majority of the boards around grounds are for small local businesses, I therefore assume the rates are low and the total revenue stream equally low. It may be Saints are aiming to attract national or even international brands at higher rates based on our expectations of promotion and a higher profile. If this is the policy the real test is not the amount of advertising but the total value of the revenue stream. As with most things quality beats quantity.
  16. This sounds more like the game I watched, except the Puncheon bit I thought he was porr today.
  17. I don't know how you define a businessman but it appears to be some one who is in a position to minimise their tax liability, as the vast majority of us are on PAYE we have no opportunity to take advantage of tax minimisation rules. In fact when MPs, mostly acting within the law (though i agree not morally correct) used flipping to avoid capital gains tax did you approve. It seems you are promoting a one rule for businessmen (whatever they are) and one for the rest of us. And there was me thinking we wanted a fair and just society, you obviously just want a society where those who can get away with it should be applauded unless they are a small club in south east Hampshire. Defending the indefensible is a life long long task, hope you are up for it.
  18. Obviously its they are not technically the same , however they have both avoided paying tax by abusing the system if not actually breaking the law.
  19. I can only add my sincere thanks to all those posters who have provided such moving and fitting reports on the memorial service and to those who compiled tributes to Markus a true Saint. The spirit and soul of our great club has shone through and I can only surmise that Markus recognised this when he saved us from oblivion.
  20. What don’t you agree with; the post was well thought out, what player worth his salt is going to come just to bench warm? We have other options they of course not the same standard as Lambert, ironically that’s why they are not nailed on first 11 players. I am believe we have a very capable squad for this league, every team strives to strengthen, however we can only buy what we can afford and then only if its available. Please provide your list of affordable available acceptable back ups to Lambert all nominees must meet all 3 criteria.
  21. Well I always say if you want to get a head get a hat, and that one looks the ticket!!
  22. Longleat, good value if you book the all in ticket on line and you don't have to use all of it in one day. We can normally make it stretch to 3 days out, valid until the end of October i think. About an hour from Southampton.
  23. 1976 underwater in HM SM Orpheus, surfaced at half time off Scotland tuned in the Radio and listened to the 2nd half on the way into Cambletown, went absolutely mental when Bobby Stokes scored. Keegan signing, took days for it to sink in, Steve Morans Goal at Not arff crap in the cup, Danny Wallaces wonder goal against Liverpool 16 March 1984 (Goal of the Season) Taking my youngest son to his first game, MK Dons in the League cup, Theo came on and changed the game, sold my son on Saints without any more help from me Markus and his camera at the JPT
  24. What I find bizarre is that Phillip Green is defended for denying HMRC £300m yet our fishy friends down the road are derided by the self same people for denying HMRC less than a tenth of that.
  25. And this is the rub, SME's employ far more people than the big corporates, they are run by entrepreneurs. They do not benefit from leveraged buy outs and high finance risk taking but they are our best hope as they are more innovative and generally per capita generate more wealth than the corporates. Tax avoidance is driven by greed not wealth creation.
