So, four games in and no points but, look at it like this: we've just played a CL group stage; three of our opponents are CL quality and we simply cannot compete at that level. The fact that we put in good performances in two of those games is promising but ultimately these aren't the teams we are competing with. They are another level. Does anyone really think that we could compete with them? Yes, the Wigan result and performance was disappointing but it's that kind of team that we are competing with and we're not gonna win 'em all. Basically, any points picked up against top six opposition are a bonus. It's the other 13 teams that will decide our PL fate. I honestly think we can compete against most of them, so as has been said, our season really starts next week against Villa. All we've got to do is finish 11th or better in a 14 team mini league. I think we can do it.

Lots of talk about this squad not being up to PL standard. Well, with the exception of Wigan, the teams we have played are CL standard; a different prospect altogether. This first run of games was a brutal start, but we have played very well in parts of those games (better even than we perhaps thought against the Manc clubs) and we will get better and most of our forthcoming opponents will not be up to that standard. Plus, we now have Ramirez to bring in who looks to me like a real playmaker. He gets on the ball, goes past players, picks out passes and generally looks to make things happen. I think he'll be too good for the likes of Villa, Norwich et al to handle. Things WILL get better. Here's to 3 points vs Villa!

I think you're expecting far too much to suggest that ads could've come on and made a big difference. It's not as if Adam never gives the ball away is it? Plus, this Ukraine side are decent. Finish above them and we'll qualify. Adam was never gonna get on. He was just called up for the experience. Roy said so himself. Shame really. It would have been nice to get his first call up on merit and be involved rather than because of injury and illness dropouts.
