Democracy isn't going away because some idiots attached to Palestine Action decided to break into a military base and chuck paint around. Do all the protests you want but blame those people that you can't now call yourselves Palestine Action. If protesting for change is what matters then just change the name of your protest group and avoid arrest. It's not hard.

If i start a chant on Sunday about deporting the fetid, disease ridden Westwood to a camp on Hayling Island is that classed as political chanting? -

I don't think the majority of the country gives a shit quite frankly. You shouldn't be breaking into the country if you're upset about army barracks. -

Kind of hilarious they are now talking about using army barracks -something they previously suggested was inhumane. If Reform do nothing else positive, one thing you can say is they've forced Labour into a more hardline stance on illegal migrants. If it gets them out quicker and prevents them from milling about in the community as much then all good. -

Where did I suggest otherwise? My point is if you wanted future events like brexit or reform to be less likely to happen I would have thought the people that didn't want that would try to avoid attitudes that we know make those things more likely to happen. It does now seem that Labour are finally cottoning onto that and are trying to address some of these concerns rather than calling those people thick or racist. Remains to be seen if they can actually do something about it. -

You don't think that mockery and being told their views are unimportant and don't matter contributed to a buildup that made things like brexit more likely? -

Particularly if the mocking produces the opposite result than the one the mockers want! -
Have to say my mates 7 year old girls went and had a cracking time. Think it's decent for things like that.

You big fanny. You can do all the little protests you want. Just don't display support for Palestine Action. It isn't difficult.

Like trousers said, that attitude contributes to Reform getting votes. -

It's possible that reform will get in at the next election and all the usual suspects on here will blame the electorate which is what they do every time a vote happens that they disagree with. -

I don't give a fuck what the twattish Tories were going on about. I'm not a Tory. I care about the performance of the party in government. If reform get in next I certainly won't give much of a toss about what Labour did the last time a year into a Reform premiership. -

Also worth pointing out that they have been the ones in opposition saying how different it would be under labour and how they will uphold the values of honour and integrity. The likes of Boris never really pretended he was anything other than what he is and like you say it wasn't a surprise when they turned out to be exactly what everyone knew already. Labour claimed they were holding themselves to even higher standards so of course they are going to get their feet held to the fire, even if their indescretions aren't as egregious as some of the conservative side. Like someone else said, it's been a year now. At what point will the constant comparisons to the Tories stop and they are to be judged on their own merits? -

Yvette cooper is at least a safe pair of hands as Foreign Secretary but Lammy as deputy PM is extraordinary. Who on earth is he going to appeal to? -

If anything happens to Starmer then Lammy would become prime minister. I can't think of many people less suitable. I think I need a lie down. -

It's going to be so much. I lie awake at night thinking about the 20% sell on clause we will insert.

Sure. Resigning when given virtually no option and reporting yourself after you've had a KC looking at it the previous week to look for the wrongdoing is so honourable. -

hypochondriac replied to sadoldgit's topic in The Lounge
She only self referred after it was investigated and she realised she was bang to rights. Apparently they had a KC looking at it last week before they even publicly admitted anything. She deserves no credit for resigning, she has clearly only done so because she was told she should resign or be pushed. -
Where would he play? We wouldn't have room for him.

This wasn't complex. If she had listened to the advice she was given and received proper qualified advice on the stamp duty then it would have been very clear. She got expert advice from two different legal firms that she get expert opinion and ignored it. As housing minister she was either incompetent to the degree that she shouldn't be in government or she knew about it and did it anyway not thinking she would get found out. Either is shite. -

100%. All MPs should have much higher salaries but it should be much easier to remove them if they aren't doing their job or renege on promises and do things they haven't been elected to do.
