I suggested this thread as I couldn't get to the game and wanted genuine opinions of those there, particularly of the new players/system. The post match reaction threads have a lot of debate, and in my opinion, are ruined by the approach some take. There still is a place for the post-match reaction thread. But I have found this thread to be exactly what I hoped, easy to read, not millions of posts, not much personal arguements, just good summaries and reports on the game. Could we please have this for every game? Thread entitled, "reports/ratings from fans who saw the game" or similar? Or at least away games. Do others think it would be useful? NickG

god we have got bored with take-overs! before a piece like this in a national would have hundreds of posts by now -not two or three!

Can I suggest a separate thread -keep the reaction one going for comments and opinion etc but have one where people who saw it first hand can add their reviews and ratings for our info -without getting lost in debates?

agree a loss isn't positive, but its not the end of the world -remember they have easily beaten us there for the last three years - they are on an up after cup final, they have a real feel good factor there etc Reinforces my view that we will be comfortably better than last year

We have lost convincingly at Cardiff every year since relegation. Hard place for young players to make debut. Cardiff on high after cup final and extra crowds brought in. DMG scored and will be confident Sounds like the best we have done there in 4 years Much better than easier first game last season Disappointing but not the end of the world

a goal for McG in first game of season could be worth a lot for us, if he starts strutting confidently he will do well. Saw him play rubbish for youth but just had the air of taking it for granted he would score and he did! Have missed all first half could listenners give me a quick summary? walked passed tv with sky sports just before Cardiff scored and they said it was all Cardiff, Kelvin D shining like a beacon for saints and keeping us in it and killer doing ok. Any other comments on radio as to whats working and not?

Bart, Makin, Ostlund, Bennett, Wright, Viafara have all been improved upon. Scneiderlin/Gillett combination hopefully could make up for loss of Safri Rasiak / Saga can't get in the side. Not saying we will be great but we have saved money and improved on last years under performing rubbish

Did you go to the West Ham game? or view their forum where they complained about us being over physical with James, Gillet and Schneiderlin getting stuck in

agree about age but you describe him, using a negative slant as just a french teenager. think in this style of football Surmans strengths will still be utilised but am still unsure of the points you fairly raised about tackling/ presence. however would say most of comments apart from pace apply equally Bale/Surman
