There are times that I wish that my dad had taken me on a train to London in October 63, to Stamford Bridge, Highbury or WHL or wherever instead of The Dell, but he didn’t, so I’ve endured the peak and troughs of being a Saints fan for nearly 60 years. It will all come good again, might take a while, 4 seasons out in the 70s and 7 seasons out more recently, we’re not traditionally a bounce back club but it will happen and nights like this will be forgotten.

Spot on here. Also I’ve never really understood the whole embarrassment thing. I’ve had a new kitchen fitted over the last couple of weeks, both the fitter and the electrician are regulars at SLC/Mad Stad, and we think we’ve got problems.

We lack shape particularly when we lose possession and there are no fucking leaders out there. Last promotion we had SRL, Dean Hammond, Jose Fonte, Frazer Richardson and Adam Lallana who were either out and out leaders or led by example. You might want to add GDP to that as well. Great though JWP was for us we were devoid of a leader last year and look where that got us, until we address that there will be more disappointments like Sunderland and this evening. As The Duckhunter would have it. Too many sons in law on the pitch this evening.

That bit is probably where we are. It’s a message as a fan base we don’t want to hear. It is what it is however.

I braved the second half on Sky and your statement sums up where we are atm. You can’t play a possession game with players whose confidence on the ball has been blasted through the floor. Big job for Martin.

As I replied elsewhere some irony in that post. That said I think at present the fan expectations are perhaps a little unrealistic and comments on here are knee jerk angry when it doesn’t go right which gets a tad tiresome. I find it amazing that people think we’ll piss this league, clearly after the last two games we won’t. Early days still, long season and all that. Signs aren’t great, but I’ll write of the season if we’re just as bad in November not now. .
