I didn't like Pardew and was happy when he went. Adkins was my No 1 after seeing the way his S****horpe side played after his first promotion despite struggling in the Championship together with his ability to improve teams. My other choices were Clarke and O'Driscoll eventually Howe. He tried to change the way we played last season but after the Huddersfield debacle opted for a pragmatic approach and used the strength of the side to get promotion. He has used the close season well to change the way we play. I don't like hoofball and am delighted with the way we play and the way we change shape to break opponents down and most of all with the proper flying start to the season down to the superb fitness of the players. Having said that, I think he is an even better manager than I had thought possible.

I know it's a bit late but Canada Saint lives there, he goes South or Vancouver for a couple of months mid winter, send him a pm.

Allowing the goal at Leicester after attacking player climbed on Lamberts back causing him to fall forward and head the ball as he fell over. The two blatant fouls on Lambert, Painter grabbing him by the shirt front to stop him in the first half and then in the second half Dunk or Painter had their arms around him when he went over both were penalties. The referee was a knob but that one decision against Brighton was more than balanced out by the other two we didn't get.

The first goal ripped them apart, Chaplow to Cork, wide to Richardson checked back on left foot cross to far post where Lambert had pulled away to bury his header. The Brighton fans and management are right about the referee. First Half, Painter grabbed Lambert by his shirtfront - penalty didn't give it, Ball hit Greers's hand correct decision, Fonte was outside area but gave penalty, not sure Lambert was clipped for the second penalty but in real time it looked a good decision, Hammond probably went down too easily correct, Painter again manhandled Lambert even worse than the first half no penalty given. Two penalties were given one incorrect but two were missed so all in all nobody can have an issue with the result. It's a simple fact keep grabbing players and they will go down, some will be given as fouls and in the area a penalty. Brighton were at it all over the pitch so if they don't want to concede penalties they should clean up their act. Poyet sets a poor example he is just gobby, a lot of the time without engaging the brain, his team follows his example so Taricco got what was coming to him and Calderon was lucky not to go as well. Brighton fought hard in the first half but ran out of steam and after going down to ten were chasing shadows. The diamond wore them down and the first goal, short of a miracle killed them off.

Yes. Peterborough skipper and must be nearly their top scorer. With Nigel Adkins at Scun- thorpe

Terrific player at our level and would give us another alternative as he is unlike the other three central midfielders being very left sided.

Can't see what all the fuss is about. How can they be charged with evading tax when they didn't pay any.

Southampton Football Club never went into administration and paid all their accounts in full. Southampton Stadium settled the mortgage with Aviva whilst the Barclays overdraft was settled by the Leibherrs. Who paid the £90m for the Amex? Doesn't it have to be paid back in ten years? I think a lot of those commenting about attendances never did arithmetic at school. I don't think they have had many sell outs so their average crowd is nowhere near ours. As for Brighton they are not local rivals and are as important to us as Barnsley. It is only the result and the points gained that count and then have the blue line drawn.
-
I can't see what all the fuss is about, apart from Brighton acting like stupid knobs last season over Adkins they are no more important than the next game. There is only one local derby, Portsmouth any other team's importance to us is based on their current form. The biggest competitor so far has been West Ham, then they thought we would roll over faced with their bully boy tactics. There is an unrealistic bombast based on their current form coming out of Brighton at the moment, the amount of noise they are making so early in the proceedings smells of fear. Adkins at Southampton last season made up all but three points by the end of the season, starting in 22nd place, way behind Brighton, so even last season Adkins outperformed them. As for the now 'we only lost because we took our foot off the pedal' theme. Right, then what was the anti Adkins demonstration, the we didn't clap them on crap, anti Saints thing all about. The fact is they are wound up about us and the mere fact they don't matter any more in the importance stakes than the next match we have to play. The following Monday afternoon whatever the result Adkins will have drawn the blue line underneath it and moved on to the next game. It could well be that apart from the confidence within the side, the fact that we have five players in the leading goalscorers and most importantly Adkins draws a line under the last game and then isolates the next game for preparation which doesn't allow the players to get out of focus.

Paine, Sydenham, Davies, Chivers, Channon, O'Brien were outstanding, as was the 84 team. This team is doing brilliantly but the best, definitely not. Adkins has made this team better than the sum of the parts with less stars than the brilliant teams of the past.

I find that my main criticism of him is his sometimes when not under pressure casual pass to the opposition that drops us in it. Some of his assist passes are sublime, he gets into good positions and is in the main an excellent finisher.

No apology for rewriting history then? In a thread entitled 'Anyone else think Guly is crap' you wrote :- 'He is one effing useless apology for a second rate journeyman in my opinion.' A few people got it right, Clifford Nelson, Chez amongst others, you and most of the posters didn't have a clue and were totally wrong, now you come on here and make out you thought 'he oozed talent' what hypocritical nonsense.

UKIP need to target all the seats held by MPs who voted against the referendum unless that MP pledges to vote for a referendum. The Conservatives need to go along with this. As time goes by it will eventually dawn on them that there won't be much chance of another Lib Dem coalition.

The reason he came off early- he has a small knee problem that the club are managing until they are able to give him the fortnight off playing after Coventry.

The difference between Southampton and Brighton...
derry replied to Dibden Purlieu Saint's topic in The Saints
It appears to me that the difference between Brighton and Saints is that we have virtually the same team as last year, Hoiveldt was necessary to replace Jaidi and Seaborne and fitted in, Fox was made to wait for his chance and bedded in well, Cork fitted in immediately. The rotation of players with the odd injury plus the outstanding form of Chaplow has given us a team that is better than the sum of the parts. On the other hand Brighton made a number of signings and it looks as though the tight bond they had last year has suffered so the team is not better than the sum of it's parts which is essential to do really well. -
Advise the management of services that large internet sites are advising their members to visit service areas only once in a day due to the rip off. That should get their attention.

I think we have a fortnight off after Saturday, so unless there is a physically or psychologically pressing reason for resting someone not much in the way of change. I'd be surprised if Ferguson comes down here for a slugfest more like high tempo, press hard a la Reading and hit on the break. If he just comes and plays he is risking a hammering.

Lambert is one of the most accomplished and intelligent footballers around. Could never say the same about Heskey the non goalscoring striker.

How is Fonte?

Looks like Guly is up front today (thevman)
