  1. If you would like to check the law of both the land and football, 'foul and abusive language' is an offence. Swearing really isn't clever and shows a person's inability to express thoughts verbally plus a lack of respect for themselves and others by not caring who is present.
  2. What the hell has awearing got to do with sexism. Using foul and abusive language isn't smart just ignorant. The women near me obviously hate it and let those that do it know they don't like it and that it's not acceptable. I think they are absolutely right.
  3. The two are playing better because they have more space now that Waigo is opening up defences with the threat of his pace and ability to get goals. Lallana always had the ability on the ball but it was wasted in midfield causing poor performances. He is a different proposition altogether as a forward now the room is there and the goals are flowing. I hope he stays up front. Another wide left player would open up things even more rather than a holding midfielder. If we are going to play that way I would like to see us maybe play Hammond there and play Schneiderlin + 1 or get in a good passing holding midfielder.
  4. It comes out Sat evening about 8pm at several outlets, one I believe Somerfields filling station at the top of Hill Lane. I still get it every Sunday, apart from 'scare are they now' it isn't a patch on the old Football Echo.
  5. The club have a problem with standing and subsequent behaviour at the back of block 4. There is also complaints of people buying seats and finding others with tickets for different blocks occupying them. The club in my opinion is resolving those problems. I personally welcome the all season ticket rule in the Itchen blocks 4/5.
  6. Weston told me on Saturday he had heard he was training with us, he posted it on here.
  7. Such as Belfast Celtic closed after the war, related to Glasgow etc but broadly speaking clubs like Southampton and Portsmouth co-existed without problems. I've been to many matches featuring Saints at Fratton without any problems. As you say it is really since the sixties and probably more like the eighties that the present problems have occurred.
  8. Davis is a superlative shotstopper. I feel though that he sometimes goes to ground too early on penalties and players who see it and can react just hit it the opposite side. His little will I, won't I throw it dance is a bit of a joke as everybody including the players knows he is going to chicken out and kick in due course. His communication, command of his box, and catching of high balls and crosses under pressure is poor. I thought the Bristol Rovers goalkeeper was excellent also Muller of Barnsley, Lonergan of Preston plus quite a few others whose all round game was much better, mostly free transfers compared with what we paid Sunderland for Davis. I wonder how well Bialkowski played for Barnsley in the two wins over WBA and Ipswich.
  9. Manners maketh man.
  10. We got away with it, just.
  11. Football has always been a broad church when it comes to who goes to matches, but it is really only the last couple of generations who have caused football to be a segregated, factionised spectacle. At one time supporters could go where they liked and mixed, supported their clubs with good humour, made loads of noise, respected women and children with a terrific atmosphere. The atmosphere at matches now is poor in comparison. To equate the boorish behaviour of a minority with atmosphere is misleading because probably three quarters of the spectators dislike it and don't want any part of it. That, probably is why most of the ground won't join in with the Northam.
  12. It's not me missing the point. This is one of the main reasons the Itchen is being made ST only, because it is now easy to identify the problem and take the season tickets away, thereby solving the problem in the Itchen. Other sports don't have this problem its just football. Swearing is just a way of allowing slow brains to catch up with the mouth. It adds nothing to the conversation, just shows a lack of discipline and an inability to control the thought processes.
  13. 15 minutes decent play, then a shambles. Davis came and not for the first time missed, square back four let player free for penalty, centre backs second best all night in the air, yes we got what we deserved for atrocious defending. Furthermore with the two easy chances Torquay had towards the end not hitting the target they could have been out of sight with us just out.
  14. You obviously have no respect for women or children. The sort of obscene language chanted by some is an insult and has no place.
  15. We played three in the middle of the field, which once Antonio drifted inside, became a no passing, no movement off the ball, lopsided shambles. We got what we deserved and were losing 2-0, once changed to a lop sided 4-4-2 and Waigo restored to the right side we at least pulled the game back despite having essentially one decent central midfielder.
  16. I actually think our formations last night were a shapeless mess. A flat back four plus a non tackling, poor passing tactical genius as a holding midfielder. The back four was so square we looked vulnerable every time the ball was played up by Torquay. Apart from the first 15 minutes we had no width on the right until Waigo switched, then no width on the left, Mills might make a fullback but a fullback he is, he doesn't have the subtlety, touch or positional sense to be a wide midfield. The only reason he is there, is because he is naturally left sided. After going two down why we continued to half time with a holding midfielder is beyond belief. Waigo has given us another dimension, awkward but effective at the moment. Lallana needs to play off the left side of Lambert as he is doing but dispense with the holding midfielder who would need a near 100% pass rate to be effective there, and play a natural wide left (only Holmes at the moment) midfielder to give us balance, either Schneiderlin/Mellis and Hammond can alternate defensively. Wotton purely from a numeric standpoint gives us the appearance of strength in midfield but he actually apart from the odd occasion gives us very little. We need touchline to touchline width and that isn't happening.
  17. I have noticed the change Mike but I'm not sure I'd agree about the lights as I've never queried their power up to now. I remember the original lights at the Dell which I think hosted the first floodlit or first competitive floodlit match in the country and the at least two newer improved systems which I don't remember being anything like as good as these. I haven't been to any of the new top grounds but they don't seem much different looking at the tv picture. I'll pay more attention now you've mentioned it next time they are on in the dark.
  18. Compact, fit, quickish, scraps for the ball, showed touches but has no idea how to be effective. You may be right.
  19. Another one that hasn't a clue about positional play. He didn't know when to drop off, make angles or go for the byeline, he was wide for about 15 mins when we had our best spell, then was sucked inside. He had no idea about holding off on the blindside, the worst thing about him was hitting crosses without looking. He certainly didn't give us the width we need and having to move Waigo to a position that neutered him so that he could be accommodated was rediculous, especially so, as it was crying out for Holmes to be given a game on our left. Needs a lot of work and there is no evidence we have anybody to teach him.
  20. I don't think it is David Luker's decision as he has instructed the ticket office to sell additional tickets to season ticket holders while he gets the issue clarified. I suspect with the exception of some in block 4 there is certainly a great deal of support from those in block 5 for the season ticket only concept. David Luker has already stated that the club have no plans to coerce existing season ticket holders to move. In addition the access from the main concourse at turnstile A preclude the away fans from that area. I would be amazed if the directors and corporates would want the away supporters blasting them from blocks 1-6. If anything it would be the opposite, they want them as far away as possible.
  21. The club doesn't want a Northam/Itchen North atmosphere in the Itchen, it must be pretty obvious by now that the club don't want standing, swearing chants at opposition supporters, confrontational atitudes, they have decided to clear all but season ticket holders out of the Itchen. That means any behaviour that the club deems unacceptable, which the stewards are finding difficulty controlling, can easily be dealt with, identifying the seat holder and cancelling the season ticket. The demand for the season ticket to be examined by stewards would be the outcome, and if ejection carried out, quite likely that the season ticket would be confiscated at the best cancelled. This is purely my opinion based on the difficulties to date expressed about block 4

    Lallana

Lallana in every position up to now has been a liability, playing off Lambert is giving him a new lease of life. His unpredictability and close control, twisting and turning in the penalty area is now an asset, as opposed to the same thing in midfield being a liability. Holmes or better still a new quick wide left midfielder is a necessary requirement, as we will only be able to get away attacking down one side for a very limited period, because we will quickly be worked out by the opposition and countered. For that reason we have to introduce the alternative balance of penetration down the left. When we do that we can look forward to beating the best sides and creating loads of opportunities for your hero to shine. Just as important is the fact the wide players actually protect our fullbacks. We look wide open down our left because of the space whilst the right is pretty compact because we are occupying the space..

    Lallana

It was a complement because unpredictability is an asset in certain areas such as the opposing penalty area. One of his goals when he turned the defenders to finish in the opposite corner was brilliant. Lallana is not playing wide left, he sometimes rather belatedly gets wide but more often than not he is in the old inside left position. We will need to create down both sides, at the moment the left is dormant, whilst the right is effective, if we can get a wide left player opening things up then it will open more space for Lambert, Lallana and Waigo and give the midfielders more scope on passing and getting forward. If we only create from one side, that will soon get blocked off by opponents as we get worked out and the chances will dry up again. I question the need for a sitting midfield player, Wide men supporting the fullback in defence with midfielders getting up and down may result in a few more goals conceded but will more than pay it's way with goals scored, and be a lot better to watch.
  24. Broke both bones in my right leg in 1966 when we were promoted to first division, pinned and bandaged not plastered so pretty unstable. On crutches, drove my mothers automatic to Leyton and Plymouth using left foot on brake and bad foot on accelerator. Stood in the terracing at Leyton but sat on the touchline at Plymouth.
  25. Or more season tickets in the Itchen.
