Saints Greatest XI - B-Team Right Side Striker Poll
derry replied to St Landrew's topic in Golden Posts
However when picking two cenre backs we voted for the two best on the same poll, that would have been preferable for the two strikers. It would have saved all this. -
A lot of people were going for Channon and Davies as the strikers and voted for Channon as the first part of the double. I did. Boyer was a good little player, but if Paine is wide right and the three have played together, somebody is needed to head in Paine's crosses. Ron Davies at his peak with us was arguably the best striker in the world and virtually unplayable in the air. That could never be said of Boyer. But I respect everybody's right to vote anyway they want. If people are voting for Ron to get him out of the A team, that is wrong. This pole should have been done after the A team selection of both strikers.

Saints Greatest XI - B-Team Right Side Striker Poll

This thread/vote should be rerun after the second A team striker is chosen. -
You don't want him in the A team. Is that it?
-
No I don't. The debt is repayable over an agreed period, as long as that is serviced, the debt is annually small and will be paid off in time. The overdraft is, I believe, being reduced. I wouldn't be surprised to see us solvent next year. The major debt in a lot of the clubs is buying players and maintaining the huge wage bill. MU and Liverpool were bought using the club assets on borrowed money.

Unless people stop voting for him in the current B team poll and vote for Keegan, Ron Davies is going to be barred from the A team. If he is voted in this week to the B team, he can't be nominated for the A team next week. How stupid can people be. I want Ron Davies as our greatest striker so I voted for Keegan as second best this week.

Load of rubbish, it includes the mortgage in full in the short term debt.

Saints Greatest XI - B-Team Right Side Striker Poll

FFS IT'S THE BLOODY B TEAM YOU ARE VOTING RON DAVIES INTO. WAKE UP. IT'S NEXT WEEK , THEN VOTE FOR HIM IN THE A TEAM EVERY VOTE FOR RON THIS WEEK IS VOTING HIM OUT OF THE A TEAM So you want him as second best. Vote next week for him in the A team not here for the B team. He is the best striker we ever had, and if he is voted in to the B team this week as you seem to want, he can't be in the A team being voted for next week. You just don't get it do you, unless you want Keegan in the A team not Davies. -
Saints Greatest XI - B-Team Right Side Striker Poll

Which will bar him from the poll to be the best left sided striker in the A team, which in my view he will walk. All you will succeed in doing, is to make sure he doesn't get in the A team. -
Saints Greatest XI - B-Team Right Side Striker Poll

If Ron is voted in here as the second best right sided striker, he won't be where he should be, as the best LSS in the A team he would be barred. Get it now? I can guarantee he has enough support to be in that poll provided he doesn't win this one. Keegan needs more votes to make this happen. -
In our case not until we score. I would have thought singing " The Saints go marching in" would be far better to continue to lift the team and leave the away supporters subdued. The other chant just starts them off again. We need them shut up, not riled up and chanting, then if they score they really drown our supporters out.
-
The rules are common whatever the competition or country. Maximum width if you need to get round or through a defence. Minimum or reduced width helps the defence. If our team took a leaf out of Man Utd's team play, they have two players one each on both the touchlines, joined by the fullback on the play side. They also always keep the wide players from being sucked in, providing two players wide of the back post. They score loads of goals because of this. They are always getting in crosses from the byeline. Surely if it's good enough for MU to play this way, why don't we copy them. Our wide players are always too narrow. We scored at Barnsley because Holmes was 20 yds out on the back post, classic Utd, the first time it's happened this season.
-
If it was banter it would happen all the time, it doesn't happen when we are losing/drawing, why wait until the few times we score, to rile the away fans and get them going again, instead of shutting them up. We are just asking them to rub our noses in it again.
-
Does anyone else cringe as soon as this chanting at the away fans starts. My first thought is always, "It won't be long now until they equalise" I just wish they would stop this arrogant posturing, and wait until the game is won.
-
On Loan, and Hereiderson has signed for Reading, so it doesn't look likely that Surman would go there.
-
It would help, if we played the whole width of the pitch, rather than 15-20 yds inside the touchlines. It is so easy to compact the defence and defend in depth. Unless we sort this problem we will struggle to win at home.

Talking of Peachey, I played golf with him a couple or so days after a vasectomy. It really was difficult to keep a straight face, he played the whole game with bow legs. -
In any event that wouldn't have included Saeijs as he was only contacted Tuesday afternoon last week.

And "The alphabet of the Saints", anyway I remember him well, 1955/1958. -

Jimmy McGowan played 82 times for Saints and scored 9 goals. -
I'm not a great fan of McGoldrick, because I think his lack of effort, and poor concentration detracts, he could be a much more effective player, he has ability, but sadly an arrogance that has no basis. Credit where credit is due, he took the chance well.
-
The goal yesterday was because of good luck. The corner in to the back post (for once), hit the shin/foot of a saints player, the ball shot out, direct to Holmes, he then put in a peach of a cross to Mcgoldrick, who put it in the corner. The ball could have gone anywhere, but went straight to Holmes.

We surely need it.
