  1. John Sydenham was far superior as a natural wide player, Armstrong was a good all round player not particularly quick or a natural wide player, but better than Marsden, Sydenham was a natural left winger and was at least as quick as Walcott if not quicker. His pace was frightening and a natural foil for Terry Paine. As it now looks possible that Channon and Davies could well be the front two, It would have to be Paine and Sydenham wide. The age of the voters is the only thing that would stop Ron Davies from being the shoe in centre forward. At one time the best in the world in his position. I wouldn't think Channon wouldn't get in. Keegan walked out on us after a couple of years and I wouldn't pick him after that.
  2. I think it has been discredited by association and has withered on the vine. What the small and maybe not so small shareholders need, is a co-operative society, to bring their shares into a large enough block, to enable some influence, to be brought to bear, on the Lowe/Wilde etc axis. After all more than half the shares issued, are not owned by the current management.
  3. The girl that was allegedly texting and killed a cyclist, at the junction of Westquay Rd and Mountbatten Way, who jumped a red light was given 4 years initially, I believe reduced a bit on appeal. If he does go to trial it could be serious if he is found guilty. Presumably he spent Christmas day at home and was on his way back to join up with the squad for Plymouth, he was going to play instead of McGoldrick who was going to be on the bench.
  4. Purely for accuracy 30 tons is the max take off weight of the 78 seat Dash 8 - Q400. A police/Ambulance helicopter approx 2 - 3 tons at the outside.
  5. They are showing little or no evidence of that, the lad makes valid points. I gave up coaching years ago, but it does mean a formal course of study, basic ability and demonstration skills. On my last course only 3 out of 47 passed. It is easy to have an opinion whether you've played at any level, or not at all. It's not that easy to get the coaching qualifications. There is no doubt it changes the way matches are watched.
  6. Kayne McLaggon's break was phenomenal on Sunday. He was on our 18yd penalty area line. I've just watched the replay, he accelerated through the Reading players and then threaded a perfect ball through three Reading defenders. He could be the answer. Dyer needs to knuckle down, he looked up for it at Sheffield and started the last two matches. If he is good enough for a top six team he sure as hell is good enough for us.
  7. He is a bit schizophrenic, football wise, he works hard close to the ball or if there looks like something in it for him. What he certainly doesn't do is work hard off the ball, tracking back, making runs to create space, covering colleagues, getting wide if there is space left, etc. Still after the way he has been playing, I'm thankful that he played reasonably well and scored for once. He could be a very dangerous player at this level if he applied himself.
  8. I sit in Block 5 and the noise is bloody deafening. It certainly does help the opponents playing into a noisy 3000+ fans. I hate to think what noise 5000 MU fans will make for most of the game on Sunday.
  9. I prefer to wait until he performs regularly, at his present rate we could get two good ones by the end of the season. I personally hope he proves me wrong, plays brilliantly and scores a hat full. As for the 95% knowing the game back to front, there is precious little evidence of that on here. More like 5%.
  10. The Davis I appreciate now, has put some of the obvious faults right. His short ball distribution is quite good, rather than non existent, His coming for crosses has improved, rather than never coming, at least he is trying. His long kickouts have improved no end as he is hitting them towards the corners away from the big centre backs. That added to his brilliant shot stopping makes him a pretty competent keeper rather than the liability he was. Because he has made the effort to put right these faults, if they result in odd mistakes, I can live with that As for McGoldrick, he got his goal after McLaggon's brilliant run, as the front man. He is definitely not a target man and needs somebody to play off, Maybe Saganowski if they let him play. Paterson did well but needs time. He is an enigma for me, he does some good things on the ball, the problem is off the ball, I can see runs or positions he should be getting into and he is strolling. He doesn't defend from the front just wanders back. When he was picked wide he could have been really dangerous, but like Lallana didn't want to play there, so didn't. Yesterday he had a great chance to get 2 on 1 on the CB, when Smith breaking, had the ball wide and had pulled the other CB over, acres of space, Gillet was 20 yds behind him and nearly got there, McGoldrick didn't bother, just jogged forward. If he had bust a gut, we could have really opened them up. All season I have been watching him very closely, I think he needs to be on or near to the ball before making an effort, he never gambles, or tries to take a marker for a walk to create space for someone else. It seems the end product of him getting a chance has to be there, if not he spectates/ball watches, strolling, jogging, or just hands on hips.
  11. His display was a long way short of great or terrific, he was just a lot better than he has been, which has been pretty poor. I have no intention going overboard about a player who has only managed a handfull of goals, I don't think has made a chance for a colleague, has managed one goal in the last 10 games, was cheered when substituted (not by me), except for an accident to Robertson, wouldn't have played v Plymouth. He played considerably better yesterday but a long way short of what he could and should achieve, if he strolled a lot less and put more effort in, in support of colleagues. His letting the opponent go, he was supposed to be marking at set pieces, has cost us several goals. Give it another couple of weeks, if he doesn't produce the same level of performance he will be slaughtered again by the same people going overboard now.
  12. I agree with you, but the Northam is where they are. I would sooner they were 100 yds from our goal in the second half than almost right behind.
  13. Doesn't make sense for me Ron. 4 months almost no effect, most of the time it's cloudy anyway. In any event the sun would effect block 5, but for the goalkeeper be well over the Chapel/Kingsland corner. We still do it for night matches.
  14. It's a fact that away fans all together make a lot of noise. When the ball is into our goalmouth all the home fans are quiet. That makes the away fans supporting from a few yards away very noisy and lifts the attacking side and puts us under pressure. We keep leaking goals in the second half under pressure. I think it would be far better if we played towards the Northam in the second half.

  16. Awful on his first start. He was composed and looked a good player today, he played well with Gillett and we were a lot more solid, especially when BWP came on. Reading scored from a free kick into the six yd box, which was scrambled in, because we defended too deep. The next from a similar position on the other side, was defended from the edge of the penalty area and Davis claimed it.
  17. Saganowski back this week, play him in front of McGoldrick, BWP wide right and Holmes wide left, McLaggon/Dyer to come on last half hour.
  18. We have to have some crosses first. Balls in from 25 yds out don't stretch the defence, easy meat for big defenders and the goalkeeper. Our free kicks show a total lack of thought, all shots either left or right foot into the wall or over the bar. It's about time we started some slick decoy runs and wall passing the wall.
  19. Ligaments, not really expected to play this season.
  20. Cork did play well, very good on the ground but doesn't win a lot in the air. McGoldrick scored after McLaggon outran the defence and gave him a one on one with the keeper, he was pretty poor in the first half despite hitting the bar with a cracking shot, but the target is 24ftx8ft from 18 yds. He was strolling as usual, when we needed to break, Gillett went past him like he was stood still, Smith had the ball but he still didn't bother to get into the box. If he has the ball he goes for it, but his off the ball running is poor. His passing was poor and he seems more interested in making space for his own shot than putting in a colleague. Still, he scored, maybe he will now get a run going, still he has to do a whole lot better.
  21. We didn't miss them, a bit more width today, Gillett and Gobern did well in the middle, McLaggon did well for our goal, very quick, but could have played a bit wider. Much better shape all round, the equaliser came from a free kick into the six yd box, We defended too deep then but the next time held a high line and Davis was able to win it. We need to defend those sort of free kicks on the edge of the penalty area. Paterson worked hard and looks a better bet than Robertson. BWP was much better than Smith.
  22. FFS there is an easy solution. We are narrow and have no width. Make the wide players play on the touchline, if they come inside sombody goes wide. Go for the byeline, get bodies into the box in the mean time. We are undisciplined, when a move breaks down, the players have to bust a gut to try and get goalside, that means sprinting not strolling. Attack the ball wherever it is, instead of standing off and passing responsibility. Football is a childishly simple game, the top teams keep it simple and follow simple guidelines, if the players don't they are out. Jan Portvleit is sending out all the wrong signals, unless he gets his act together we are going down.
  23. No Width, No Movement, No penetration, No defence. I'm going, FFS prove me wrong.
  24. Inside sources say definitely £160,000.
