What she fails to mention is that monies 'returned to the club' will be distributed to creditors of the liquidated company Baker Tilly are overseeing.
-
So in other words, a consortium of Property Developers are buying some land with a decrepit building on it, and a bunch of fans have donated to collecting buckets to keep a tinpot club going for a little longer?
-
Yes, but your higher one off prices aren't to buy a 'bigger' club, they're to pay off even more debt. Including to charities.

My gut feeling is that this is due to Saints having a ruthless business strategy these days. Bills don't get paid until the latest possible time (to allow interest to accrue, etc.), the cheapest possible suppliers are picked (e.g. the programme printers being based in Portsmouth now), any unnecessary staff are let go (the programme sellers), any hangers on are given nothing for free (MLT and other former players). Every last penny is chased. I don't like it, I think goodwill is an important (but intangible) asset for a business to have, but I think it's more a case of being unwilling to pay until as late as possible, rather than being unable to pay. This is a relatively small amount of money, and if there were problems on that front, other signs would be there, such as late payment of wages.

It'll make it even funnier to watch his breakdown yet again when they do deduct the points.

The new company is already being used. The old one is the one Baker Tilley are liquidating and investigating.

It seems silly to me that a one off bump caused by the Olympic Games etc. to bring us out of recession, followed by dropping back to the current natural level, is seen as worse than if we'd just stayed in one long dip for the whole time...

What about the nuke POL dropped on the New Forest? The fall out even blew out over The Solent and got a few of their own as well...

It's worth remembering that Appleton, for all his tactical failings once the players were out on the pitch, was able to attract those decent players in the first place, considering Pompey's position. Some of them will have been there for the money(!), by the look of it, but others will have just lost the main reason they were there at all. Oh look, they've not been tied to a long term contract, and there's a transfer window about to open.
-
I did. It was nothing more than a trolling post going on about Saints trying to derail the thread. I'd have probably let it slide if things were quiet, but the thread is very much on topic at the moment.
-
Well, Appleton's proved me wrong. He did always claim he could go straight back up to the Championship...

I've been on the one that previously held the record, Summit Plummet at Blizzard Beach, it was awesome

January will be the acid test. There will be better clubs after some of those players, able to offer a longer term, more secure contract, and they'll be able to leave for nothing.

It hasn't actually hit yet. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-20121635 should be up to date with what's happening.

Ford closing Southampton Transit plant with the loss of 500 jobs
Jimmy_D replied to saintbletch's topic in The Lounge
Looks like it's been confirmed. http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/10006351.Ford_announce_closure_of_Transit_factory/ (Also, the proof reader for that article (or even a spellchecker!) has done a terrible job...) -
http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?40690-Is-it-cortese-or-adkins We'll keep this to one thread.

IF Adkins does go, Benitez for me.
-
I think we might be seeing here just how much we overachieved last season. That said, we're still outside the relegation zone, for now, and it looks like this could be a record low season for achieving safety. I like Adkins, and I think we should keep hold of him, but pressure is inevitably going to build now, and that will have its own effect on the team. Might be we need to change manager just to drag us out of the spiral of pressure and low confidence, but not just yet. Learn what we can from this, draw a line, and on to the next game.

Not sure there's too many to come out of that with credit. Lallana, or Rodriguez maybe?

He was diagnosed with concussion after the game. I really don't think you can accuse someone of 'dramatics' when they've been blindsided and given concussion by a rival fan attacking them on the pitch.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/energy/fuel/9619269/British-engineers-produce-amazing-petrol-from-air-technology.html Essentially, they've created a (pretty inefficient) way of storing energy from renewable sources in a form our current energy infrastructure uses. If they can scale it up, and improve the efficiency, could be a real game changer.
