  1. Cortese has exceeded every ambition he's expressed about the club so far. If this is coming from him that he wants us to win the league, I'd be more surprised if we DIDN'T eventually see this happen...
  2. From the wording of the FL's statement... Pompey have to agree that only a proportion of secured debt is carried forward. All well and good if Chanrai takes over and reduces his own debt, gets rid of the players, puts some money in, all well and good (unlikely as that is). What happens if someone else takes over, and Chanrai doesn't reduce his claim?
  3. Pretty much how I see it. It's also worth noting that they haven't exited the CURRENT administration yet. That's probably a moot point though as I can't see any way they won't be liquidated if they don't exit the current administration... any punishment for that would be irrelevant.
  4. Just over three years ago the boot WAS on the other foot. Then, one day, we were saved by Liebherr, and the thread currently known as Pompey Takeover Saga was started...
  5. I prefer epicaricacy. It might have Greek roots, but it's the English equivalent. Schadenfreude is a straight up German loan-word.
  6. If I was a Pompey player right now, I'd be putting my claim for money under the FCR in right now, like Kanu has done, before the pot of parachute money is all gone to other players...
  7. Be interesting to see how this runs. It won't affect Saints directly, after all, there's no one left here to punish, and these are just unfounded allegations at the moment. (yes, everyone assumes they're true, but that's different to proving they're true) Claus is in the spotlight at the moment, but by the time this has played out, he'll probably either have been swept under the carpet, or be seen as a whistleblower.
  8. On that point, I'd agree with you, I'd like to see more going into grassroots tennis, but even with more expenditure at a lower level, I don't think you'd see prize money drop significantly. It's not like you can say Murray has won nothing this past year though. He's won enough to be ranked higher than all but three players in the world. Maybe he hasn't won finals, but he should still be one of the top paid players in the world.
  9. All that money is in the game. It doesn't just come out of thin air, it all comes from the vast number of fans in one way or another, through ticket sales, or through fans buying products from companies that sponsor tournaments, or through fans buying products that companies advertise on the back of the tournaments. If not to the players through all stages of the tournament, where do you suggest that money goes? Just to the winners, as you imply through complaining at the earnings despite winning nothing? More to the tournament organisers instead of the players? More to the officials?
  10. What do you think giving all the money coming into the game to just the winner would do to the competition? In tennis, you'd only have three, maaaybe four players that would make any money at all. The rest would have to play part time, reducing their competitiveness as they wouldn't have any time to train, with most of them giving up pretty soon after. In football... well, do I even need to say anything? The more even distribution of money in sport is there for a very good reason.
  11. I'm not saying Federer was lucky, he wasn't and deserved to win. I'm saying that if Murray had gotten lucky himself (taking one of the break point opportunities in the 2nd set mainly) he could have won today, as then the momentum would have been with him, and Federer's poor play up until then (far more unforced errors than normal) might have continued, especially as the crowd would have been even more in the match at that point. (And if that had happened, Federer would have been unlucky.) That's the reason I think Murray will come back stronger, there's a vast difference between having been completely outplayed in every final you've been in, and believing that, on another day, you might have won a final. That just makes you hungrier.
  12. I'd disagree with that. Today Murray overcame the stigma of not taking a single set in a Grand Slam final, and he at least competed this time. He had chances to take the second set and with a little more luck could have won today, while in the previous finals he couldn't compete at all. Obviously he's gutted right now, but like he said, he's getting closer. He'll come back stronger.
  13. Because of Markus, I can do that which most people take for granted. I can go on a Saturday and watch the team I grew up supporting. For that I will always be grateful to him.
  14. Apparently, Hawkeye have regretfully had to inform Pompey that they won't be able to provide goal line technology for them next season as the system hasn't yet been configured to work with jumpers for goalposts properly.
  15. Great signing on a free. Team is starting to take shape now.
  16. Implies we're more attractive than Fulham and QPR to potential signings at least.
  17. Without a link to a source we can all see, might as well keep this sort of stuff to the HCDAJFU thread.
  18. All the best, get well soon!
  19. It'll be interesting to see the FL's stance on this now. Here we have the head of the PFA blackmailing football creditors, that it's now guaranteed won't be paid in full.
  20. It doesn't matter what we think of the kit now. If we do well in it, we'll remember it fondly.
  21. Pretty sure that means we'll be able to get them on a free. Although judging from his comments their new owner might try and challenge any free transfers. Don't think he'll have a leg to stand on though.
  22. Reckon we could end up with Rangers' fans keeping an eye on how we're doing this season, it'll be the closest they'll ever get to seeing how the Old Firm would have done in the Prem if we get these signings...
  23. Has to be so highly priced because of the chance to see the Olympic Flame with a guaranteed view. (Not that I think that's worth the extra price, but I reckon the marketing dept. does)
