Playing 1 up only works if.... a) You have a player who is quick and good in the air and can also occupy two centre backs. b) you have decent wingers c) you have at least one dynamic central midfield player who makes runs forward and joins in Kenwyne Jones and Beatts could reasonably satisfy criteria a). None of the current forwards can. To be fair, there are very few of these players about. We haven't had a decent winger for years. We haven't had a decent attacking central midfielder for years. In short, Rasiak up fron on his own will never ever work.

I don't think it would have been 4-1 without all our substitutions which weakened the team.... Lancashire for Thomas being the main one... and then it really went wrong when Thomson came on, on the left. Davis 8 - Some great saves - should have done better with the 2nd goal Murty 7 - When he gets fitter, he'll be a great signing on a free Molyneux 6 - not too bad though static for 2nd goal Perry 8 - Solid as ever Thomas 8 - Solid, pen wasn't a pen but he should have given one away later on Lallana 6 - Needs to find a position as right wing isn't it James 5 - Game bypassed him Wotton 6 - a couple of agricultural challenges but nice work for the goal. He always looks like a walking red card to me. Always seems to be in the wrong place and not concentrating, so he has to lunge in because he's not in the right place. Also, he has absolutely no upper body strength so if someone leans on him, he falls over. Thomas and Perry should start v Ajax as they will be good together. I think we need to sign two more centre backs so Lancashire is 5th choice at best.

**** me, I can't believe people who watched this clown play can actually think we should have kept him. I am absolutely delighted he's gone. It occurred to me th other day that during his 3 years at Saints, the only time we were any good in that period was at the end of the 2006/7 season when we made the playoffs. The strikers then were Jones, Saga, Best, Rasiak. BWP wasn't even making the bench. Even Whisky George could see he was ****ing useless.
