The January window had been coming for, well, 12 months so there was no need for any 'panic' buying. It could have been done in a calm and measured manner with players that would enhance our first eleven / squad. That's why we have a team of people in the recruitment roles.

Well, it is the ‘odd ‘ shocker and Ralph holds him in high enough esteem that I’m quite happy to trust him in all due respect. As for Stephens and Long, you crack on lol.

I don’t begrudge him the odd shocker. He’s one of our best players. Plenty others to focus our disdain on.

Indeed. It was not so long ago we had the likes of Fonte, Toby, Lovren and VvD in these roles. Now it’s a question of the best options with what we have at our disposal.

His primary role is to defend and Yoshi is streets ahead of Stephens in that respect.

He came off Saturday with a reoccurrence / continuation of his hamstring problem I thought. Not surprised he’s not training yet if that was indeed the case. Frustrating, but to be expected in the circumstances.

This is the crux of it. Yes he’s good with the ball at his feet and adept at bringing it out and setting up play, but, first and foremost he is a defender whose job is to prevent goals. That’s where his weakness is - as a defender.

We can put that with our net spend trophies. Going to need a new cabinet at this rate.

Harsh to blame him entirely for the pen but he really isn't a very good player and the fact that he is a regular says a lot about where we are with our squad.
