I remember flying out to Bahrain on a 747 (I think) on 21st January 1976. Our plane was a couple of stands along from the Concorde waiting for her first commercial flight - looked so tiny against the Jumbos. It was due to take off a couple of hours after us. Anyway, we're flying over Turkey at 30,000ft and the captain comes on the intercom and tells us to look up out of the port-side windows where I was sat. I looked up at Concorde, another 30,000ft above us, framed against a deep blue sky, rocketing past us. We got to Bahrain in about another 3-4 hours from memory - and there was Concorde, sat on the tarmac next to us, cooling down in the night air. Amazingly surreal at the time.

Think you might have mis-read Scotty. The way I read it, he's recommending using a card which exchanges at the bank rate rather than the lower tourist rate.

If they get promoted, then they're guaranteed at least a further £60m, which would be enough to pay the other 80p in the pound and bring forward the remaining payments on the 20p. Sounds to me like PCFC is becoming a shell holding company being liquidated to get rid of the toxic debt created by the "business of football" that's being transferred to the new start-up company. So will the FL consider these companies to be 'inextricably linked'?

Total respect for DB. I felt like your father-in-law after the 98 world cup. Beckham got a lot of stick from fans at away games for the next season, but he kept his mouth shut, maintained his dignity and let his football do the talking. He always gave 100% and his redemption was complete in 2001 against Greece. He virtually single-handedly saved England in that game - not just for the last minute goal, but for his whole match performance when everyone else's head was dropping. I think the 98 sending-off actually built his character and made him a better player.

Maybe, maybe not. Unfortunately finite energy resources, a crumbling infrastructure and the lack of a coherent energy strategy for the past thirty years are not. Worst of all has been the decline of the technology-led education and training required to deal with these challenges. Still, we don't mind paying three times as much for less-reliable energy in five or six years time, do we?
