The Brook is fantastic. I've seen many bands there over the years, and it's only about a mile from home. I've seen some great performers there, Paul Young, Toyah, 10cc, The Alarm, Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters, and next month, some real Legends, The Wurzels . The only downside is that when it's packed you can't get to the bar easily. It would, imho, benefit form a bar next to the entrance (where it used to be before the extension was built), to complement the existing bars on busy nights.

That is a valid point. I've flattened all the recycling down, removed & crushed the tins & given them to a family friend who takes them to Tescos, where he gets loyality points on his club card. The newspapers were taken to the tip in Michelmersh (on my way to work). My recycling bin was emptied on Friday, so I can start afresh with it making sure everthing is flattened. As for the main waste bin, it's full, but the lid will close, everthing is bagged & squashed. If it's not emptied today I shall be taking that to Michelmersh too.

Fwiw my politics has always been left of centre, I've always voted labour, but I have no sympathy what-so-ever with the teachers. I’m fed up with people in well paid jobs whining about how tough they have it, be grateful you have a job. The company I work for have had so little come in during the last year that I fully expect to be made redundant, I’ve been hanging on by my finger tips and honestly can’t believe I’m still here, I’ve not had a pay rise for 2 years, which in real terms is a pay cut and my wife’s hours have been cut. (She’s NHS, and for Dunes benefit, she isn’t in a union.). My eldest son was supposed to be doing the first part of his DofE expedition course on Wednesday & Thursday, this has been cancelled because of the strike. I shelled out nearly £200 on walking boots, sleeping bag, rucksack, clothing etc which will not now be used. Thanks guys. I appreciate teachers do a difficult job, and from my experience they generally do it well, but then, so do many of us. When I retire, (in about 23 year time) I really don’t know what I’m going to do for an income. I had my pension statement delivered on Saturday, and I’m currently looking at £3500 pa, clearly this nor or my wife’s pension (which is less than mine) will sustain us in our dotage and we can’t afford to increase the payments. You’re not the only ones to have it tough.

I believe they are working Monday & Tuesday, back on strike on Wednesday. They are supposed to be carrying on from where they left of 2 weeks or so ago, but on a work to rule. This basically means slowly & not taking the rubbish that isn't actually in a bin. Best to just leave them out until Wed mornimg, if they collect them, all well & good. My blue bin was collected on Friday, so I guess the green one will go tomorrow.

Bloody hell. I've just had heart failure. I've opened a thread entitled "OK what happens now" to read the first post: Then the second post: I went to the OS expecting some earth shattering announcement, only to read about ticket prices & the like. Then I clocked the date. You B*******.

Try Centurion Business Park, (next to Northam Bridge). I don't think you need a permit, and as long as you don't park outside of the same business every day I doubt if you'll get rumbled

I don't think your average meter reader or postman will let themselves into a property in the early hours of the morning. I think most can spot the difference between a bloke armed with a pen-light & a pencil and with a British Gas ID badge & 4 blokes in balaclavas and a bag marked "swag". I'm don't recall Tony Martin being driven to the edge of a break-down by the postie dropping by ocassionally.

What about the guy you were taking the **** out of? You must be so proud of yourself.
-
I seem to recall the dear departed Deppo was banned for that?

My neighbour was burgled, 3 of them went in, not as a show of force though, because they knew my neighbour was away, one of the burgulars was her son.
-
Like Baj says, only I'd give the knife to my Mrs & hide behind her. Seriously though, 1 stab wound then self defence, any more & you need to ask questions, although if the wound is in the back, presumably the burglar was running away, so I guess that is questionable. Based on the little I've heard about this, if the housholder was up for murder & I was on the jury, it'd be not guilty from me.

May I remind you that we don't have a Conservative government in power, but a coalition. I believe it was the other half of the coalition who came up with this scheme that you are getting all hot & sweaty about.

Second class citizens eh! Thanks for the answers.

Why is that, even if the guy isn't cut-out to be a commander, he is still an experienced, intelligent bloke. There must be something useful he could do?
-
Excellent lol the blond with the curly hair.
-
I wanted to watch this but we ended up with guests, so only caught the odd bit. I was puzzled why the commander has to do mental calculations when working out the range/speed etc of approaching vessels. Surely with modern technology there could be a gadget in the periscope that can do this with more speed & accuracy? This may have been answered in the programme, or I may have got hold of the wrong end of the stick, bearing in mind my opening sentence. There was a programme similar to this in the 80's, and I remember that a failed commander could no longer serve on a sub, is this still the case?

I agree with you sentiments 100%. I just don't think FIFA investigating FIFA would throw up anything.
-
I doubt if the FIFA investigation would find anything to pin on anyone - it was always going to be a whitewash. An investigation needs to be undertaken by an independent body.
-
Much as I detest Mr Warner & pretty much anything to do with FIFA, I'm not sure what continuing the so-called investigation would achieve, if he were to be found guilty what sanctions could be taken, as he is no-longer part of the FIFA organisation? If there is a whiff of criminal activity shouldn't the police be investigating?

This prompted me to google him. I can't believe it's 12 years since we lost him. A truly magnificent bowler.
-
Just found out. Really gutted by this. Another of musics greats gone. He was the only member of the E Street band to feature on the cover of an album with Springsteen. Rip Big Man.
-
That's a shame, I quite liked him, I thought he was relatively solid & dependable without being flash. He's a young lad who will get better. Good luck to him.

Aren't all starting salaries crap? Do you expect to come of university straight into a 35-40k job? A graduate engineer, in my line of work, earns about the same as the NQT quoted above.

That's a good call, a short walk into Brockenhurst to the pubs.
