Awe only on the bench? I thought he was very highly rated but admit to not having watched the u21's much this year. Guessing no chance of him being in squad tomorrow?
-
Difficult to look that good in 5 mins!
-
If we lose Adams we definitely need a striker more than anything. Finishing off teams has been our biggest issue of late. Imagine selling Adams and then Armstrong getting injured? We'd have only Mara (if he even sticks around) and then Alcaraz playing out of position up there (I'm not including Stewart as it's left to be seen when he'll actually return).
-
I think Charles and Edozie are unlucky not to be in there. Smallbone very lucky to keep being selected, although was ok in the last match I guess. Sulemana for a goal or assist, and at least one booking for a player hacking him down
-
Yeah, my comment on Stewart is more in response to people saying 'he'll be on the bench for Hull' when that was a month ago it was stated as the aim, and nothings been heard from since. Thing with Mara is that he's a decent player but his style doesn't really seem to suit us that well. He's got talent but we've only seen flashes of it, and think his confidence is shot.
-
Stewart wasn't in the training vids, so probably won't be on the bench this weekend. Lots of focus on Mara, who looked pretty decent in training... Let's see if he can translate that into a match environment.
-
He played for the under 23s I think
-
I was thinking he may be started through the middle with Alcaraz (in and out of the team anyway) possibly rested after a long journey.
-
Edozie and Sulemana have got to be the starting two really. Now he'll probably play Fraser and Aribo or something...! Still waiting for Fraser to start ripping it up...
-
Fair play to him, although a good game against Mozambique doesn't tell us much...! Hopefully comes back full of confidence.
-
That was a strange one as he did look good, and has quickly gone onto prove that he is a decent player, certainly better than most (any?) other centre back we've had coming through since.
-
Soooo... How far away is he from actually playing for us?!
-
Getting a ‘buy Hot VPN’ pop up which I can’t close / get past unfortunately
-
Going and training with those players is going to do him the world of good. Showed some great touches in the last few matches and we know he can hit the back of the net. Exciting times for him.
-
I thought he had a good game last night, as he has most matches I've watched this season. I would say him performing at the bare minimum level expected is very harsh - I havent seen many opposition keepers who I thought looked much better than Bazunu.
-
Would've definitely had Charles instead of Smallengine and feels a bit harsh on Edozie, but Sulemana and Alcaraz should be starting every game when available, so good to see them starting this one. Saints to win a penalty for sure...! Edit: powderpuff midfield again, so expecting a bit of a goal fest with two teams running at pace at each others defence.
-
Hope you have a great day and enjoy a good match of football and big Saints win
-
Interesting. In the last match I thought he looked good on the ball, but terrible positionally. Hopefully that was just a random observation off half a match, and he proves to be amazing. Shame about Amo-Ameyaw not being around the first team again - one of the few who can make things happen.
-
Seems ridiculous if that's true. We've for years made massive sales and havent spent anywhere near as much as a lot of other teams. Even Bournemouth have spent around £200 million in the past 2 seasons and recouped about £1 million! Weren't Everton on the brink of FFP points deductions for ages and then just casually dropped £30 million on two strikers? Always feels like Saints are the only club to ever worry about this whilst every other club can spend whatever they choose! 🤣🤔

It is very annoying. How often do the players just run at goal and take a shot? It's almost like their scared to take on the responsibility to score the goal. I seem to remember this was a common theme when we had the youngsters running around under the Dutch duo - passing it around on the edge of the box, beating a man, passing it 6 yards to someone else, pass again, get tackled, opposition break away and we know the rest...
-
How sad that after Selles, we have another manager who insists on ignoring any positive or creative players for their favourites. Sadly, Martin's favourites like to pass the ball a hundred times and stroll around, but don't like to tackle or score goals (or complete a pass when there's opposition players lurking for a breakaway).
-
And with this in mind - stop making very risky passes at the back, and leaving slow players at the back to be outpaced on the counter (when we lose the ball from overplaying it again, and again, and again).
-
Abu looks a decent footballer on the ball, but awful positionally. Could say he may not be the Cho$en one. Amo-Ameyaw off injured (hopefully just cramp). Wouldn't have been in the squad tomorrow anyway by the looks of things. Doyle continues to look pretty good.
-
I wouldnt write him off just yet, after 3 bad results. Whilst he's picked some fairly dodgy lineups(!), this hasn't been helped by half of them being new to the team (either being thrown in or seemingly held back after being thrown in - see Holgate), and some of our better players being injured (Alcaraz, Sulemana, Bedders and Stephens). Hopefully Charles playing centre back is over now we've got Janny B back fit, Holgate getting upto speed and Harwood-Bellis playing, and we can move Charles into a proper defensive midfielder position, drop Smallengine (in honour of his top speed of around 7mph) and get Sulemana starting games with Stewart up front in the hopefully not too distant future. Hopefully he's seen the full back positions arent working great, and getting that right in the system is quite vital, we need to be solid, whilst getting the ball to players who will make things happen (Alcaraz, Sulemana and Edozie), giving Adams or Stewart some good opportunities to put the ball in the net, whilst all 3 of those will be chipping in with goals. He obviously has to play them to make this work though! We all want him to succeed right?

Pretty much hit all the points! Get a proper captain. Pick the best players and put them in their proper positions. Stop messing around with it trying hundreds of really risky passes until something goes wrong. How many times does this need to happen and we lose before this is taken on board?
