I guess Monk is taking the p, - I looked him up and read a few things from the manager saying what a good job he'd been doing...?!
-
Interesting. Who else is out then? One of Stephens or Bednarek banned? Salisu definitely out?
-
Thought he played well, as he has done nearly every time he’s played this season (minus getting sent off)! Think we’re pretty lucky to have him in the squad - has matured a lot and really worked on the defensive side of his game. He has a calm style on the ball which I think people in the past have mistaken for not trying… Think he’s pretty good going forwards too
-
Good news, he's looked dangerous when I've seen him. Worthy of his own thread? Probably worth bringing him more into matchday squads instead of say Long by the end of the season, and see what he can do upfront with either Adams or Broja.
-
Good to see that people are finally stopping the hate with Valery. Yes, he's made a few mistakes, but until this season, he was a (very attacking) full back, and has now shown flexibility to be in there on the right side of a back 3. Previously he's been called out for his defensive abilities, but looks to have really worked on that, and has been one of our better players in a few matches this season. I'd still probably prefer him at right wing back, but seeing as we have 2 other extremely good options there, if we are to go with the 3/5 at the back then he's become a decent option.

Sounds like the Carlisle fans were probably looking for someone to blame then! Or for some reason expected him to come in and win them the match from centre back on his senior debut 🤣 Good to hear it wasn’t as bad as what I originally heard and sounds like he’ll get more opportunities, even if it is in quite a poor team
-
Didn’t look terrible, but probably showing some inexperience - first was a header down to an attacker where he seemed to do ok to get the ball but headed it to the worst place, and the second got tight to a player letting the goalscorer nip in through the gap between the centre backs. Hopefully he plays most games between now and the end of the season as it’ll only improve him.
-
Sounds like he may have had a difficult debut, potentially at fault for both goals in a 2-0 defeat!
-
Nice couple of backhanded compliments from the manager about Saints and the player! "They have produced a lot of players, probably not so much in recent years, but in the past." “It’s been great since he came in pre-season. We liked him immediately, he’s trained every day and he’s given himself the opportunity to go to a good club, but that’s all it is.... He is a long way off being a footballer yet, but he knows that himself.” I thought he sounded pretty close to be fair, 17 in March and seemingly certain to get a contract as a professional footballer...

How much would we sell for? 30-40 mil? Or double that for Newcastle 🤣😜

Can’t get this one working

Same issue for me
-
Also hoping for this!

It says on the OS he’s still building fitness - not sure if that means he’ll be on the bench or not… ”In terms of returning personnel centre-back Jack Stephens continues to build fitness ahead of a return from a two-month knee injury he picked up at Manchester City earlier in the season.” I read this as he was probably not available and therefore expecting Lyanco and Salisu with Simeu on the bench?

Thought it was an ok performance, but how many times have Saints played very well in the first half and been hanging on in the second? There's no point being a good team for only half a match... Thought Adams played very well and JWP, Redmond (first half) and Salisu also pretty good. Livramento exciting going forwards, but again looked knackered near the end and probably time to get KWP back in at right back who at the moment is a better right back (and probably one of our best 3 or 4 players). I'd be keen to see Perraud again, as we weren't cutting down that left side very efficiently with our right footers. Thierry Small also looks like he could be really good in a year or two... Shout to Elyounoussi who looked pretty good when he came on. One common thing was there were about 3 or 4 occasions when we were breaking and our players seemed very reluctant to play in other players on the break who were in better positions...

Amazon Prime 'error at our end' 5 mins before kick off...!
-
Don’t forget, Saints have to pay 4 times the agent fees of any other club to have ever existed
-
They won! Only watched the last 15 mins or so and didnt see the trialist, so guess he wasn't that good? Good to see Smallbone back, and Kegs looks a decent prospect. Simeu pretty good, a bit unsure about the left back.

Footballing world (and anyone with morals) now desperately hoping Newcastle lose all remaining matches this season.
-
Do away teams stay at Southampton Harbour Hotel? Seems to be a lot of people hanging around waiting for people to get on the two luxury coaches parked outside
-
I’m surprised that Horseman is still in the role. Results have been horrendous, even when we’ve had most of the best players playing
-
If he's 6 or 7 million and only a sub at his current (not very good) club, then I think the whole 'we're allowed to reinvest everything we bring in' is proven to be a load of rubbish. Unless this is a smokescreen for someone else coming in (clutching at straws)! The Croatian guy sounded like a much better bet, especially as it wouldnt have broken the bank...
-
I also wondered that. A very rapid hair loss?
-
I thought Valery was our standout performer first half. Given a lot of the ball, beat a man and showed good skill on 4 or 5 occasions and whipped in 2 or 3 good crosses which could’ve been converted. Also put in 3 or 4 good tackles. Second half not quite as good in a different position, but didn’t think he was awful there either.

Welcome Dynel. Hope you have a fantastic career with Saints and go from strength to strength. Certainly looks like a player with a bright future ahead of him.
