Might make other managers think twice if we fire a bloke after 8 games including relegation survival and FA cup final..... I imagine for a club our size sacking a manager after finishing 8th and getting to a cup final probably put off some better candidates which is why we ended up with MoPe.

No we will be in the same boat as Everton with an expensive manager brought in to save from relegation but in reality not the one anyone really wants. If he keeps us up I guess its money well spent.

The issue here is the requirements for the new manager are different to what we normally look for during a summer with pre-season. We haven't got the luxury of games to bring in someone who might need time to find his feet in the PL. I'm not particularly keen on Hughes long term but I think he would be a decent short term fix. All this could have been avoided if the board had just sacked MoPe last December and strengthened the squad in Jan.

In fairness the only reason he isn't being relegated with Stoke this season is because they sacked him for being ****. Having said that I'm not sure there are many options out there right now so I'd take him.

I'm finding it hard to get to excited about MoPe going until I see who the replacement is. I have the feeling we will **** it up some how. Long term I think the squad needs major surgery to get us back on track but right now we just need someone to give us one of those new manager bounces for a few points.

I don't really hold any malice it wasn't like he was a **** or anything just not a good manager for the PL. I still hold to the view that the squad is fundamentally flawed as well. Our attacking players are poor and so our CBs which is going to give any manager we appoint some serious problems unless we give the squad a major overhaul.

My money is on a statement saying we will carefully consider our next manager over the next few weeks, we have had a large number of high quality (and incidentally out of work managers) express an interest but we won't rush this important appointment to make sure we get the right candidate to fit the Southampton way.

I reckon the damage is already done and we are going down. MoPe is just the final nail in a coffin that has been built up over the last few transfer windows. We should have sacked him December got a new guy and spent hard in Jan on some real quality up front and at the back we didn't and now we are ****ed.

yes but Adrian (and tbf he isn't the only one here) doesn't think the squad is average but is in fact a good top half squad let down by the manager despite the evidence in front of us every week that a lot of our players are very average. Comparing the spine of the team from a couple of years ago to the current one is pretty sad. There are no on pitch leaders or organisers in the squad now and it shows every game. The CBs must be the worst we've had since we came back up even Jos could win a header.

Look everyone is ****ed off/annoyed/upset/angry with things right now but in the end whatever happens we will all claim down over the summer dust ourselves off and most of us will be back at SMS next season. Your club is your club be it in the PL or Southern division 1. There are whole masses off football fans in the country whose teams have never even been in the PL who seem to cope. Not being in the PL is not the end of the world. .

I could take being a a defensive team in a classic Italian mould if we were actually good at defending but we are ****e at it.
