Club won't be replacing Fonte, gardos to get his chance
doddisalegend replied to Mr X's topic in The Saints
So what do you suggest? Pitch side protest, a march through the city centre, maybe picket Les's house how about a match boycott? You organise something to show the club we're not mugs mate and we'll come and support you. -
Yes I have Kat spent most of the money from player sells on handbags and cream puffs. While Les and Ralph have used the rest of the money to set up an online pet grooming business...

Do people actually attend those things? Never understood the point of them especially in the internet age with constant info 24/7. I mean sure in the 80s they might have had a use but in this day age why bother?

Oh god I get so ****ing fed up of people whinging about spending money to watch football no one ****ing forces you to do it, buying a football ticket gives you no guarantee of an enjoyable game or entertainment its a football match not a trip to the cinema. If you don't enjoy it do something else with your money and time its entirely a voluntary thing to do. Just another example of the modern self entitled football fan.

Who expects improvement every season though? does any team improve every season of course as fans we would like that but in reality football just isn't like that. Its all relative depending on your club but most clubs have good and bad seasons. As saints fans we have got used to improving for the last seven years but the more we improved the harder it gets to do the same the next season it was inevitable that we would have seasons were things aren't so great sooner or later.

He is an expert at that isn't he. Months out injured come back stay fit for three games, score a couple of good goals and then get injured again for six months.

We have some special fans...

All that possession. Liverpool fans must be getting mighty tired of Klopp's boring football... https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/clubs/backward_pass

No you're right everyone of the players, that left, were desperate to stay none of them wanted to leave and none of them wanted the extra cash they left because of horrible Les being a meanie and nasty old Kat refusing to bank roll champions league football and instead spending the clubs money on some more shoes......

I imagine the club would have made more of it but the clubs side of the story is he came straight back from the euros and told them he wanted to leave. I imagine at that point the club had very little inclination to be supportive or celebratory towards him. I'm really not that upset about the club moving on a 33 year old player, who made it clear he didn't want to be here, for a decent fee I but I do expect the club to be sorting out a decent replacement. I think you are being a bit unfair on Yoshida. This season there hasn't been anything to split him and Fonte Yoshida has defiantly improved this season. (I still want another good CB brought in though)

We just sold a 33 year old Portuguese international for 8 million so I'm not really sure 20 million is to much for a 26 year old French international.

coincidence? Southampton defender Maya Yoshida stars on the cover of the club’s official matchday magazine for Sunday’s visit of Leicester City in the Premier League. https://southamptonfc.com/news/2017-01-19/saints-leicester-city-edition-now-available?utm_source=Southampton%20FC&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=1677093_PRE%20-%20Non-Attendees%20-%20Leicester%20-%2020.01&utm_content=Saints%20preview%20read%20more&dm_i=2HKL,ZY1X,2DYRB9,2VRC1,1

Maybe they should have stayed with us a bit longer...
-
yes we should have persuaded them to both go to Stoke who are clearly nuts and would have paid us more....

About 12 million reasons if the transfer fees in the press are correct.

that was away..

This is probably the least bothered I've been about all the players that have left. I'm not going to cry about the club moving on any player in his thirties especially if they can get a decent fee for him. I'm going to cry even less if that player put in a transfer request and made quite clear he'd rather be else where. I will be bothered if we don't get in a decent replacement. The transfers that bother me are the young one like Oxlade Chamberlin, Luke Shaw and Calum Chambers young players with great promise that we, as fans, never really got to appreciate or see develop playing for saints. We've have had Fonte's best years and he isn't going to get any better (in fact he is more than likely to get worse) IMO, sentimentally aside, Fonte is exactly the sort of player we should be looking to move on and replace with good young players. ...of course if we aren't going to replace him then this is a bit Fubar

I can't speak for the away games but I did all the home games and I don't remember a lack of effort or passion from the team. The last home game was disappointing but we were 15 minutes from going through.

A few statistics about this season...
doddisalegend replied to Unbelievable Jeff's topic in The Saints
The BBC Leicester match build up has a stat that our conversion rate is 6.1% which they say is the lowest in the PL. The club have to find away to improve that. A new striker seems the best option but I'm not holding my breath I reckon the club will just soldier on with Long and Jrod and hope they hit some form. -
Why would he have scored the goals we needed?
