Brilliant summary of our problems. Details and thoroughness really count. I recently read Bob Paisley autobiography, The Quiet Genius. His and his coaching team attention to detail and professionalism made the difference. Pochetino had this, so did Gordon Strachan and Glenn Hoddle. Lawrie Mach was thoroughly commited and expected the players to be. I am not sure of our players, manager, coaching staff or owner. Hope we stay up, but it might need us to go down to sort it out. Painful but necessary?

That 8th place finish was only by a few points...3 or 4 less and we would have been much closer to my predictions. Last year an awful lot of people were way off the mark in their predictions. More than I ever was.

I would say that the beginning of complacency was creeping in. Very difficult to see, but it was there. You are right, it was more obvious in 2016, but not many were flagging it. I did predict the trend, I was wrong on some specifics but right on many more including 17th last season.

Four years ago I and Alpine flagged the lack of intent in the transfer windows. We dilly dallied about, were constantly late to the races and missed out on our main targets. We settled for cheaper options. I mischievously asked whether this was the plan all along and the 'missing out' was because we wanted to whilst feeding the fans with a load of **** about how we had tried our best. No, IMO we were being set up to 'just stay in' the PL, but arrogance and complacency has led us to the edge of losing that status.

Yes, you have summed it up perfectly. We got a lifeline at the end of last season but our complacency, which I identified 4 years ago, knows no bounds and once again we failed to strengthen the weak points that had been identified.

Very difficult. We are obviously at a key point in the history of SFC. In fact a knife edge. Stay up and we can steady the ship. We might just do it again this year, but last season should have shaken everyone out of their complacency and I'm not sure it did. Anyway, as before I will be looking for any key indicators before I let everyone know of my predictions for the medium term.
