I loved the 1990's when every year we were the relegation favourites, but defied all the odds.
-
Post of the week !
-
I understand people are angry and frustrated. But, if we are in a relegation fight we need to unite and adopt the tactics that saw us successfully defy the odds so many times in the 90's.
-
I was warning of complacency and where it would lead, so yes I have been proven to be right.
-
I was a lone voice who was warning of complacency. I was lambasted, vilified and ridiculed. But, I stuck to my principles in the same way that I warned about the appointment of Sturrock over Hoddle in 2004. I am not afraid of bringing to the forum unpopular opinions, when I believe they need to be said.
-
It pains me to say, but I did see this coming.
-
Agree with that. People taking our Premier League status for granted. SFC has cycles in form, we are going through a downturn and just staying up would still count as success. The mentality has to change quickly, because you have to fight and scrap to stay up.
-
The prima donnas must change their mentality and start slogging out points. The club has spent recent years flouncing about believing itself too good to get relegated. I was a lone voice, lambasted and cursed by all and once again my concerns about relegation are proving right.
-
Hmmm... I would have agreed 10 years ago.
-
Not good at all, but could have been worse. We need to show more determination.
-
We HAVE to stop this becoming a thrashing.
-
The Baggies are taking a drubbing.
-
It won't be a disaster. The whole club need to get real. We need to fight tooth and nail for our premier status instead of flouncing about. St. Mary's needs to be more intimidating and the club needs to think of ways of helping the supporters to do this. The manger needs to breathe fire and defiance. Saints can stay up, but first of all need to stop feeling sorry for themselves and get on with it! This season has been on the cards and I have warned as much.
-
Hang on, remember out great fight backs in the 90's. Its far to early to speak like this. The mistake was the complacency shown in the last two years. Why the club did not think we could be drawn into a relegation fight shows breath taking arrogance.
-
Ok...what does the manager do. Try to keep the defeat and scoreline at a respectable level or go all out for a draw ?
-
I don't think it would make much difference. We are outclassed and morale is low. Why though?
-
Careful, GD may be the difference between 17th and 18th at the end of the season. The battle to stay up has only just started and the club needs to adopt that mentality.
-
You have to see these games as 'bonus' games. As someone has said it is against our relegation rivals we need to take the points. At least we know for sure now what our season is going to be about. The battle to stay up rather than all those unrealistic top 10 dreams. Back in the 90's we were experts at staying up and we can be like that again. Come on you Saints !!!
-
Hopefully, get to HT without letting another one in. Keep the GD down at the very least and maybe still time to pinch a draw.
-
No. We will not be relegated for losing games like this. Our 6 points are against our relegation rivals and those in the lower third of the league. The fight to stay up is going to be between us and 5 or 6 other clubs.

Hang on Pompey are a long way down. Shouldn't they historically be in the top 3? Before the WAR they were champions forever or something.
