  1. I agree. I generally get fed up with the moaners and was willing to wait and see. I waited and don't like what I see. NA talked big about a CB & CF and it hasn't happened. Makes you wonder why ! If NA himself hadn't made noises about signing 2 better players then I probably wouldnt feel as disappointed right now
  2. When you rush transfers you end up with players like Kieron Dyer - how did that work out for QPR ? Seems obvious that Saints are looking for certain standard of players at a certain age (around 25) who can grow / improve with the team, and possibly retain some sell on value if need be. Gorkss will turn 30 this season and was allegedly wanting a 3 yr contract. I wouldn't say he was a 'top' target especially when we have started rather well and are giving our current CBs time to show what they can do. Whereas Reading, after their start and after selling Matt Mills, appear a little more desperate. I still believe another CB would be good but certainly not ready to slit wrists because we didn't get Gorkss
  3. His version of events maybe true. Having not seen the echo piece, did they ask Warnock when he would be sitting Puncheon down for a meal ?
  4. No offence taken. I remember watching Bridgey for Saints and at the time I believed he was good enough to be an England regular and was good enough to play for a team such as Chelsea. Do not wish to appear self-proclaiming etc.., I'm sure Bridge has very few regrets with the way his career has gone but purely from a playing point of view, i thought he could have been a VERY good player BUT it 'seems' that lure of money stopped that. The poster was asking if Bridges career had stagnated and why - i offered an opinion, thats all.
  5. To clarify - once Cole signed for Chelsea as preferred first choice, Bridge had opportunity to move but was offered a 'new' contract at Chelsea and decided to stay well in knowledge he would be second choice for chelsea meaning that he could never realistically compete with Cole to be Englands first choice.
  6. As soon as he signed his new contract at Chelsea, (in the knowledge he was second behing Ashley Cole for both Chelsea and England) is when he lost it. I would say he chose money over football. How could he compete for an England spot when the man he was fighting with kept him from playing football week in / week out. He was linked with various clubs and only left Chelsea for Man City as they were splashing the cash. Would say he turned into a bit of a footballing mercenary - don't think football really matters to him anymore. All IMHO of course.
  7. What a disgraceful thread this has turned into ! Shameful that fans feel they have to name black players at the club that they liked in order to prove to certain individuals that they are not racist. Utter tripe !! Fans always have favourites and fans will always turn on players who they feel mis represent their club or who have nade derogatory comments about their club and I cannot recall where race, colour etc.. has ever come into it. If those minority posters are trying to claim that Southampton FC are followed by racists then they should be ashamed of themselves.
  8. Phickie Layer (Phil Boyer & Rickie Lambert = more goals)
  9. Does anyone know what the 'SAINTS BONDS' are. I thought these were purchased in order for funds to go the the ex-players charity etc.. but Le Tissier claims the club has asked for ex-players charities not to use club logo. I was surprised by this as I thought Saints bonds were directly linked with the club ? As for the dinner - couldn't go so didnt look too much into it but the literature i did glance at looked as if it was an official club function - surprised to read that this has nothing to do with the club. Could this be a reason why NC is upset ? (along with LM, MLT, Osman, Benali etc.. being part of the old 'failing' regime - causing problems with with bid by NC & ML by backing non-existent 'new' backers, constantly sniping in the media and 'abusing' their position of being club 'legends' etc...) It does amaze me that they constantly criticise NC at every opportunity and still come back in amazement when their next request for something from the club gets refused ! Like others i wish they would resolve this but these 'legends' are doing more damage to their reputations (IMO) with the fans than NC is at the moment.
  10. I blame Cortese IF the redevelopment of Staplewood had gone ahead as planned we would benefit from better facilities. Better facilities would see better improvement in the standard of training. Improvement in training would then see our players able to perform to a higher standard both physically and mentally therefore reducing the chance of losing two goal leads. Also, better facilities may well have improved the size of our physio room, therefore Lallana could have been treated more quickly and effectively. At the moment our resident lodgers of Holmes and Connoly seem to be taking up more space. As such, Lallana is not back yet and the team missed his abilities on the pitch. Failing that........... its the fault of Pulis. (Or for Dalek, its the fans fault becuase if we had allowed Hoddle to return then none of the last 5 yrs would have happened) HTH
  11. If there's a chance of getting a million in damages to make me feel better then i'm going to make sure its me !
  12. it always amazes me how offended parties always ask for a sum of money in order to make them feel less offended !
  13. What a bunch of miserable b@stards ! I enjoy watching Saints play no matter what the opposition and I for one would rather see Saints play Man Utd than Dagenham & Redbridge or Brentford or Oldham ....... That said, i still went to all those games and supported the Saints in the same way. Yes the league / promotion campaign is more important BUT how thrilled will you be IF we beat Man Utd - theres always a chance. Lets not forget that there is no guarantee we will beat Exeter regardless of whether we played Man U or not, all this talk of players heads being turned IMO is b@llocks. Everyone goes out to win no matter what the opposition. I will be there Saturday and win, lose or draw I WILL enjoy myself, just like the rest of the season.
  14. Have read a few of your posts regarding NA and am confused by your comments about making great strides. Now i certainly wouldn't say great strides were made since departure of Pardew but I would say that we have now found a bit of stability. After Brentford game, i thought the performance was one of the worst I had seen in a while, after that we had an amazing run until Notts County and now Tranmere. Basically par for the course with regards to the ups and downs of being a football fan (albeit more 'ups' than 'downs' at the moment.) So what are you looking for ?
  15. If Van der Vaart was 8 million then what price for AOC ?
  16. So Howe didn't stay at Bournemouth because he loves the club, he stayed because he loved the club more than League One Charlton and Championship relegation favourites Crystal Palace ! If he goes to Burnley it will be interesting to see how Eddie Mitchell reacts after all his recent posturing.
  17. Loved the comment : ...... Chelsea - the club he supported as a boy -.... He's 17 and been at Southampton since he was 7. Does the quote mean that he is a fully grown man now who doesn't support Chelsea anymore ? One thing is for certain, thanks to all the recent publicity, 1. By selling its own pictures, SFC must have made a good return on the AOC pic thats been used for both the Mail & Telegraph articles, 2. IF he was to go, we must surely get top price for him now, although, like virtually all othe Saints fans, I would prefer to see him stay.
  18. Agree with this. The recent run of results, since the shambles that was the Brentford game, have been remarkable. We seem to have pretty good cover across the squad. Only concern I have is if either AOC or Punch go then we would need replacements for right midfield. Surely that should be adequate for now.
  19. Will be an interesting one to watch when you bear in mind the comments NC made regarding Charlie Austin.
  20. Its a 'tad expensive' in relation to what we have been paying for normal league games over last two seasons but when you take a step back and consider that out of the 92 teams in the 4 divisions, we are playing the current number 1 side who also happen to be one of the top sides in Europe - is it all that expensive ? What would you pay to see Saints play AC Milan, Juventus, Bayern Munich etc.. ? We've just been too used to paying lower prices to watch Saints play lower league opposition.
  21. This - lost any respect for him as a footballer when he signed a new contract at Chelsea with Ashley Cole already there. Could have pushed for a regular England spot but lost any chance when he effectively showed he was happy to play second best. But then maybe 90k a week is more important than playing week in week out.
  22. My son received a letter from his school offering the free tickets for yesterday. I'm sure his school stated that the kids were given a t-shirt and read the letter to assume that they would keep the t-shirt afterwards. Not too bothered either way, we didn't need the tickets as we have season tickets but they still let him walk around the pitch with his class mates. He was more chuffed about walking around the pitch than about not being able to keep a cheap t-shirt and i think his classmates (and their parents) were more than happy with the chance to see a saints game for free. Agree it was a strange decision not to let the kids keep the shirts but not the end of the world !
  23. The Police also have a responsibility to the other 20-30000 fans that wanted to leave the area and NOT get involved or caught up in any 'potential' violence. The excuse that those that wanted trouble would wait is a stupid excuse to use. If the police held the away fans back and 20mins or so later there are still saints fans lingering around then the police could easily identify those fans looking for bother as quite frankly there would be little excuse for any saints fan to still be in the area. The decision to let all fans out at the same time when they knew that there was a high percenatge risk of trouble was totally unexcusable. I would say it was very poor policing. Personally i feel that the police put members of the public in danger in order to try and force some prosecutions !
  24. SnailOB

    Connolly

I would agree with your sentiment As for higher level - i'm not sure if anyone has any stats for this but i believe he is prone to injury
