I think it'll be obvious to most who they are . (hence why this thread was started!)

TBF this won't happen, but he's exactly the sort of CB I think we lack. Physical, powerful and pacey. The guy from Rennes (I think?) is supposed to be in a similar mold.

Looking good now. GB are also currently beating Uruguay 1-0 @ HT, and they only need a draw to progress as group winners.

Some good points raised here and I'd like to add my 2 pence. This is a great forum with many terrific contributors who all have great understanding of the game (and at the end of the day, this is what it's about - A football forum!). As people have stated the issues occur when ''certain posters'' (We don't need to name them) add their sarcastic/witty replies to pretty sensibly started threads. More often than not it's a thread from MLG. I can understand why he gets on peoples nerves somtimes, but the amount of abuse and to a degree, bullying, he has had to put up with recently is out of order. The bloke is a saints fan, who is positive and passionate about our future, yet for some reason he's not allowed to be and a nice positive discussion about stadium improvements, training ground improvements etc gets eaten up by sarcastic and witty remarks which go round and round in a circle. I think it's obvious when these threads are going to go down that route, so maybe the mods need to catch these early before they descend into the mass sarcastic contest they become. Don't get me wrong, the mods do a decent job here as it is - but maybe we need a few more to hit this current issue? At the end of the day we all have opinions and there are some very good posters here that will slowly start to fade away if a certain group are allowed to continue taking over every thread with their drivel.

He's chelsea's player, they bought him from Lens as well as Edin, so it would only be a loan for him to gain experience. -
They've just packed up the fair tbf, that's why they're there at the mo.

Sunderland have bid ''Up to £12m'' for Steve Fletcher. Blimey, that's alot of money for a striker who doesn't score a great deal. -
Good shout, they took a huge gamble swapping Alonso with him, as Aquilani was injured when they signed him so whoever sorted that medical needs shooting.
-
Peaked too early, again.

Carroll stands out as the modern day flop, the fact he cost more than David Villa is insanity. But a couple of transfers made by clubs up on tee side stand out. Alfonso Alves -cost Boro £12m. He was a disaster, was supposed to fire them to the ''next'' level but it went horribly wrong. Sunderland - Asamoah Gyan. Another 'big name' signed for £14/15m, and was hopeless for them. Went awol and then left for a club in Dubai.

Get over yourself. What I cannot understand is how people snap shot on 1 game, 1 hour, 20mins - and that's that, decision made, mind up, no way back. Have you ever heard about giving someone a chance? You've given Gazzinga all of 20 minutes before deciding he's not good enough. I'm sorry, but I'm pretty sure that makes you the idiot in this argument. -

If you say stupid things like you did about Gazzinga, then what do you expect? Open yourself wide for it. -

Don't be such a pillock. -
He's being realistic to be honest. We need pace and a better CB, otherwise we will be in the **** when we come up against top PL teams. Let's not kid ourselves. There is a good basis to this squad and we have made clever signings, but we need a couple more little dots of quality to finish it off in the most important areas.

This is one of those bizarre rumours that has no substance, apart from the fact he used to play for us and is fast. And we're looking to sign quick player. 2+2 = 25252525 We won't sign him, and I'd be surprised if we even enquired as it would have been obvious before that he's well out of our range.
-
Frank De Boer singled him out for praise, he was a hell of a lot more than just tidy
-
not following the injuries of course...
-
Fail.

I think we work it up to the box pretty well, but lack that ''spark'' and injection of pace to get in behind sometimes. That will be our undoing if we don't sort that out with a transfer or 2.
-
Absolutely, full of energy - but not one of these players who runs around a lot with little ability, he's full of ability. He's got it all for sure. I think his head is screwed on too so he'll make it big. I was lucky enough to watch him when he was 14/15 play for a youth side, you could tell then that he had something, he just stood out with his touch and movement off the ball. I've championed him ever since and it looks like we've managed him very well, but I know the club have been very, very excited about him for years. In some quarters they believe he can make the biggest impact of any young player to come out of our academy, that's how highly he's thought of.
-
I've said it for years, a star in the making. Love him, so technical, so agile yet so confident and plays beyond his age. His got the football brain and the ability to find space, which is a telling sign of a class player. He will be an England international, I'll stand by that. Totally in the Jack Wiltshire mold, class class act.

All you're looking for in pre-season is progress from game to game, and we've clearly got that. We're still a few weeks away from complete sharpness as you'd expect, but we were light years ahead from the Anderlecht game - so very encouraging in that aspect. Our defensive shape looks impressive, we seem to go to 4-5-1 without the ball and close down very quickly, get tight very quickly and limit the options for the opposition, but when we get hold of the ball we almost instantly shift into a 4-3-3. We need a little more pace to make it more dynamic, but I think you saw from the involvement of Clyne what we expect of our full backs in this formation when we attack. Ward-Prowse, as i keep saying, is a star int he making. I love the way he times his runs into the box, always looking to score goals from CM. Very agile and technical as well. Looking forward to seeing more of him as the season goes on. Jay Rodriguez is technically brilliant and will be a star for us, bit isolated on the left at times but when he came inside he was very dangerous. Overall an encouraging display, only let slip because of 1 little lack of concentration and bang. That's what happens against champions league standard teams.
