Did we buy the wrong striker from Burnley...

If true, Brendon Rogers is slowly turning Liverpool into an NPC team. -
Appleton leaves the skates and joins Blackpool
S-Clarke replied to NorthamSteve's topic in The Saints
Taking off my saints hat for a moment, I've never got the crack with Appleton. He's got alot of respect and a decent reputation, for pretty much failing at Portsmouth. You can throw all the sob stories you want at it, but he's had more backing available to him than he should have had, and with a squad full of the players they have in L1 should mean they're higher in the league than they are. Pretty sure his reputation is just born out of pitty rather than any real talent. Not sure what direction Blackpool are heading in, going backwards faster than anything. -
Always been a good goal keeper, liked him when he was at Norwich and hoped we'd have been in for him in the summer. Celtic took the opportunity to steal him for a small fee though.

Personally, at this stage, I think it is the right call. I've said before that we're coming up to a crucial period of games. I'd prefer to be going into that period with a manager who knows the club, rather than a care-taker position and then a new guy. It would be a bit of an upheaval at the wrong time. I don't take the idea that he hasn't gone because we haven't got anyone lined up either. If he does go, there will be a period of a caretaker manager and we'll get the usual ''the start for a manager has begun'' articles. So those thinking that NA will go and someone will just walk right in are wrong. It's a brave call, but I think it's the right call. NA deserves his shot this month, I don't think there's anyone who wants to get this right more than him. On Monday there was a sense of going back to basics, and let's hope he can lift the confidence for Saturday.

Too lightweight for CM as well IMO, same as the rest of our midfielders. Too easily knocked off the ball.
-
How would starting a CM at CB improve things?
-
From what I've seen, Rodriguez and Lambert aren't great together. Too similar in places, although Rodriguez has a bit more life about him in terms of movement and pace. I think we need to carry on as we started, 1 up top, Rameriz in his natural number 10 position just behind, with the 2 wide players joining in. That'll work. it's just what happens when they attack us.

Austin has a great record, but is very ''billy sharp-esque''. Comes alive in the box, and doesn't do a lot in the build up. I agree with others, he's in the mold of being one of those cracking lower league/championship goal scorers, who'd do an ''okish'' job in the PL but wouldn't get a hell of a lot better. Jay Rodriguez has much more to his game in my opinion, and in time I believe he will turn out to be the better buy. Just my opinion though. -
Morale...has Gastons pay package had an affect?
S-Clarke replied to Dibden Purlieu Saint's topic in The Saints
He is on around 30-35k per week, comes from a decent source. At a similar level to the rest of our top players, Lambert is close to that as well. -
The problem with Morgan is that he can be very inconsistent, but when he's on his game he is terrific and doesn't let the opposition get any head of steam in the middle of the park. Man Utd at home comes to mind. But he has off games, and when he has those it screws us right up, because he's the player in our team who sets the tempo. He's very talented and adds alot of energy to the middle when he's on his game. It's very fickle to start coming out now saying that he's rubbish. Very good player going through a bad spell like the rest of the side.

Christ, I don't expect an easy win at all. This will be as tough as any other game we've played, probably more so than Fulham. I'm not sure if they'll have Flores at the back alongside Williams, as I think he's a fantastic find as a CB. I think he cost around £2m. I must admit, looking back now, it does make you wonder wtf we were doing? I honestly believe we did our usual of looking for ''a massive name CB'' and spending weeks securing it, only to then fail, and be left with the scraps.
-
He was probably key in the first few months of the season, but was pretty poor for the remainder. I do agree that he gets a fair bit of unwarranted stick though.
-
Morgan went on a stroll as well, for sure. He didn't close down anything all night. It was still a pretty ****ty attempt at a block by Yoshida though. I hate it when defenders just fling their leg a little at a shot, without any conviction what so ever, and then looked stunned in that it's lead to a deflected goal.
-
He's not going anywhere, yet. I'm very loyal towards him, and I find it hard to really call for him to go as I think he's such a top bloke. He's been a huge success for us in even getting us here, but you do need to take a look at what's going on this year and you wonder if he's got here too quickly, as well as the team. I think he'll make a good PL manager in time, hopefully it's with us, but the clock is certainly ticking. To be honest I'd prefer to have him at the helm during these crucial 4 weeks than a 2-week caretaker period and then a new manager, for me...that will just make us even more rudderless during a time where we need to get the results. I'd trust Nigel and I am fully behind him for what will be a huge 4 weeks. Let's all re-group and bloody well start this flaming season already.
-
I did think Yoshida was supposed to be a decent footballing centre half, but he looks very last ditch in everything he does and very panicky. May be confidence, but apart from the Villa game, I've not been too impressed.
-
Guly is a left-field shout! I'd go for Mayuka personally. Natural width either side, a natural number 10 in behind a lively, pacey centre forward. Not too bad. But then you've got our defense. Oh well.
-
That's it, basically. Summed up nicely and is exactly how I see it. I can't see our fans would be enjoying the NPC if we were losing away at Wednesday and Hull 5-0. Oh, we did that didn't we.
-
Can imagine what he says to the lads is exactly the same as we hear! ''Right lads, let's do this for this fantastic football club. Look at those fantastic fans out there, they have been great towards you and you need to reward them. They're sticking with us and we need to make sure it stays that way. ''They're a hard working bunch of fans.....etc!"
-
Interesting, but you can't say we're not giving in a fair crack at this. He deserves it too, and personally I'd prefer to have him as manager during these next few weeks as opposed to a care-taker and then a new guy. Back to basics, get the points, reassess in December.
-
I think we'd be a little insulting to his intelligence to assume he's not trying that. Last night we weren't particularly open in my eyes, it was a kind of back to basics 4-4-2 display (or 4-2-4 when attacking). Decent shape about us throghout the team, but what can Adkins do when the CB decides to turn his back and flick a little foot at the ball? I don't think you can coach that, that comes natural as anticipation. Yoshida should have come towards the player and really stopped him from shooting. That goes down as an individual error for me, again. 2nd goal, Fox gets done on the wrong side. Great pace by Odimwinge, but Fox was on the wrong side. Again, I don't think you can coach that. It's just mistakes made by players who just don't seem capable up against half decent forwards. Yoshida is actually starting to worry me, as he looks pretty rubbish.

Does Rickie Lambert really look disinterested?
S-Clarke replied to jasoneuelllfanclub's topic in The Saints
He looks a little flat, but I can imagine he's as down as the rest of us. This wasn't the season he wanted or probably expected. -
The start of a huge, deciding, set of fixtures. Ramirez needs to play in behind the striker, not out on the flank and I'd be inclined to go with Rodriguez as he looks like he has much more life to him at the moment. I'd also be willing to put W-P in the middle in place of Davis, who was awful last night. Although he could easily replace either Morgan or Davis and neither could complain. Back 4, unfortunately, picks it's self.

what the ****?

People seem to be working their way down the league. Now we're bottom, is it safe to say that we can't expect to win against anyone as they're higher than us?
