Not quite the same but 1991/92 felt like a good year for cup runs , 4th round league Cup, 1/4 final replay in fa cup and final of the zds cup , with replays it felt like a lot of cup games.
-
Definitely a good draw though, our record reaching later rounds of cup competitions has been good last few seasons
-
Not sure it would to be honest, not an interesting tie for the general public. Being a midweek round of games only two perhaps 3 games shown, will be Sheff Utd v Spurs Bristol City v Man City Perhaps Man Utd for the guaranteed viewing figures

Southampton(1) 1-2 (3)Newcastle - League Cup Semi Final - Second Leg
JRM replied to Chez's topic in The Saints
Comparison was midweek trip, long distance, cost, managed to get big numbers there. When Luton played at Newcastle in fa cup few years ago they took over 7000 , just saying perception of other clubs fans was we would take more than we are with it being a semi. Personally I don't blame anyone not going, bottom of the league, long way to go on a Tuesday to see us lose and costs a fortune to do it, plus the train strike , about 2700 turn out is great. -

I think it's brilliant but interesting perception of other teams fans that I know, a mate of mine just assumed we'd take the 5000 tickets entitled to and seemed surprised when I said we were taking only just over half that I guess when you think we took 8000 to Milan it does seem quite small in comparison -
Fulham struggled at home to Sunderland today, we've actually done very well in the cups last few seasons getting through potential tricky ties
-
Lymington seem to be a bogey team for them this season for some reason, you'd expect Sholing to still top the league?
-
I didn't hear that, but I can tell him we didn't give ourselves our best chance by not playing Lavia
-
It's a strong line up I think, I just can't understand resting Lavia on Tuesday night and playing him today, he is vital for us to have any chance up at St James' Park
-
I'd be surprised to be honest, Dibling would have been training with first team if so , Morgan probably dropped if not signing contract
-
I say go all out to win this PL2 and get a bit of silverware for the club.
-
Problem is we'll probably field an XI that have never played together before against what will likely be a settled starting line up from Blackpool, they had no game last week and have a week until next match so would expect McCarthy to play a first XI in his first game in charge
-
Third home game in a week so understandable that ticket sales are low, especially following 2 defeats with no goals, probably will only be 17-18k , it is quite nice to have an old school Saturday 3pm cup tie where people can pay on the day so might get a few walk ups.

Good question I'm not sure, new signing Bree today hasn't played in the carabao so isn't cup tied but might not be able to feature anyway if its like that -

A mate of mine said we're 1-0 down at half time in a semi final, when you look at it like that all to play for. Of course we know the odds are stacked against us, but who knows we might even have a new striker by then! Looking forward to the trip regardless, if we have 2500 that will be a top effort in my book, 4th semi final in 7 years so perhaps not as special an occasion for us as it is the Geordies who aren't used to such success -
Southampton 0-1 Newcastle League Cup Semi Final 1st Leg

Good point, that was a ridiculously harsh yellow, was clear at that point the ref had received a visit from some Arabian businessmen letting him know what was expected of him -
What's happened to Joe Aribo? Would make sense to play him as well, not had many minutes recently
-
Bednarek can't play as he is cup tied. Reading up on DCC suspension , think he is out as yellow card suspension are competition specific but red card covers all games so I think his one match ban is covered by this match
-
The B team have a game away to Middlesbrough on Friday night so will probably get an idea from that line up
-
Agree with that although think Orsic could do with more game time to help him settle in, got a feeling Walcott might feature as well. Will be nice to enjoy the game without too much pressure and no away fans in the home end for once (think Blackpool will bring about 1000 plenty of tickets to spare for them)

There was something about suspensions being competition specific? -

Few more tickets put on sale in block H taking allocation to nearly 3000 for away leg, sell those and its an excellent following in my book, hell of a way on a Tuesday night in January when we're bottom of the league and no one is giving us a chance. As we heard the away end tonight they are all set for Wembley we're just irrelevant , let's give it a go -

Not seen it back but did feel like we were unlucky to have our goal disallowed , a huge bonus it we do go down is we can leave VAR behind and actually celebrate goals again -
A mate of mine was in 13.35 down from Waterloo with carriage full of Newcastle some of them laughing about how easy it was to buy in the home end, been in top flight for 10 years but our ticket office still a league one operation
-
For once Saints fans stood up for themselves and gave a good kicking to a few Geordies who had tickets in the home end, about time and great to see well done to the Kingsland North
