BTF, you have mentioned on a couple of these threads that local government pensions are self funding. I have a question (genuine interest). when you say self funding, do you mean that the years contributions by the members offsets that payments to the pensioners or do you mean that there is /will be enough in the pot to cover the next 25 years payments?

The simple fact of the matter is, that in the medium to long term, final / career average salary pensions are finished. As more people live longer, it becomes more unsustainable under the present rules. Is it unfair to change someone's pension have way through, yes it is. Is it unavoidable, yes it is. What other choice is there. I was in the US a month or so ago and they have the same issue. Two states are currently trying to reduce pension payments to people who have already retired - at least haven't reached that stage yet.

Still trying to recover from the shock that the missus has consented to my idea that I should go on a diving holiday to use up some surplus holiday whilst she stays at home. I am not sure if I should ask again to really make sure or crack on and book it before she regains her wits.

I don't have any issue with the concept of foreign aid. I am just surprised that the UK have contributed such a vast amount more than other nations. that is all.

I am somewhat surprised about the size of the donation - twice what the US are giving, and many time more that some of our european neighbours. It seems a tad excessive.

12m for a 17 yr old unproven in the perm- that is a great deal for us. Would have loved to have seen him play for us in the prem but all players have a price, selling club or not. Anyway, him and Theo may be back at saints when NC delivers the vision and we replace arsenal as one of the four contenders for the champions league

Why is it that it is ok for a horse to have a dump on the road and the owner be allowed to leave it there, when if a dog owner did the same they would be fined? Oh and back on topic - if you are one of the cyclists who insists on ignoring the cycle path on the milbrook road, you have a death wish which will probably come true one day.

Given the choice, I would t.ake the pay cut if the alternative was redundancy. Better 95% of a wage than nothing at all.

What happened at that home was deplorable and the BBC should be commneded for exposing it. However what is troubling me is did the BBC notify the authorites as soon as they discovered the abuse or did they wait until broadcast. I truely hope it is the former otherwise people have suffered unneccesarily whilst the BBC have edited and compiled their programme

Chris huhne is getting a very hard lesson in frontline politics. Don't rock the boat or you are done for. I am willing to bet that it is clegg's allies who have been feeding the media with this story.
