Stealth taxes - Created by Thatcher, Perfected by brown, Continued by Osbourne.

Given the state of the economy, is anyone really surprised that not much was given away. The petrol duty cut is a sop to the public but at least it didn't increase. Realistically no government of whatever colour was going to significantly reduce it to the extent it was going to make a real difference. By the way Texaco in Millbrook trousered the extra penny as they didn't get the prices down in time - bstards.

They would probably have to pay some ridiculous sum of money to scrap them in an environmentally friendly manner to appease the greens. This way is a hell of a lot cheaper, one tank of fuel to fly it there (Actually it is probably only half a tank as they didn't want it back)

There is that cancer charity event where you have to grow a moustache for a month that's predominantly for men.

It was and you are;) Used to badger my dad endlessly about going there whenever we were within a 5 mile radius the bargate. In the golden fuzzy haze of my childhood memories, Huckleberries was just about the best culinary experience money could buy. McDonalds - my 4rse.

The beginning of the end for the Premier League cash cow?
CB Saint replied to trousers's topic in The Lounge
Could this take The Premier League to the next level of spending insanity. Currently the £1.bn three season deal was arrived at from an auction of the Uk rights to Uk broadcastors. The matches are divided into 6 tranches, IIRC, 5 to sky and 1 to espn (to keep the EU quiet). If the net result of this is as the PL spokesman suggests, a pan european rights package, then there could be a much more fierce auction for each tranche, meaning more money for the PL paid ultimately by us. -
Do you live in Belmarsh? Considering these figure are December, only thats almost 50 a day!!!

I think that the vocational learining stream will re-emerge but not because of any government policy, but because business will realise that a lot of bright kids are not going to Uni now and will be looking for work at 18. As an example, KPMG have just launched a campaign to recruit 18yr olds to train as accountants. If this is a success then others will follow suit.

Saints might be the biggest club, but do Pompey have the best fans?

I would be careful about being too precious about the word, I read somewhere that "mush" comes from the gypsy word "moosh" that means man. If what I read is true the skates can have it. -
Well having read the thread it is apparent that no-one, left or right, has any clue about what is going to eventually transpire and that probably extends to George, balls, the treasury and almost certainly the press. I recall an old economics teacher of mine telling me the the full extent of economic policy change take years to manifest themselves in real terms. So what we have here is a bit of labours policy, a bit of tory policy and some bad weather thrown in and a press corp revelling in the midst of a great bad news story.

When he speaks I can't help thinking about the teacher in Charlie Brown. He probably has quite a lot of good things to say but his voice tone just switches off my attention.

He will be gone by the summer. I don't want him to but when the big clubs come knocking enmasse then the temptation will be too great too resist. After all he has probably dreamt of playing for Man U / Arsenal etc in Champions League as a kid, who wouldn't follow their dreams when the opportunity presented itself - it may never happen again. As for benchwarming, sure he won't feature immediately, but it hasn't hurt Walcott's career at all, has it. Love him to stay, but resigned to him leaving.
