Has this thread reached the "I wish I never started this thread" hall of fame yet?

Funny you should say that. One of our indian IT contractor said it was the best and most authentic curry tht he has ever had in the UK!!! To be fair I have only eaten lunch there once. My suit smelt so bad afterwards because of the open kitchen, i was banished to a meeting room by my colleagues for the afternoon.

Cafe Spice near tower bridge in London is good. However the best has to be Muthu's on Race course Road in Singapore. Great fish head curry and squid sambal.

I hate the first few weeks of the apprentice. There are so many utter F***witts on it that I only can really start to enjoy it once Lord Sugar has whittled them out.

Yep - just seen the Android saying how he had no choice but to shaft the local businesses

I'm not so sure. A lot of people would vote tactically for the best interests of their own politcal party. For Labour and Conservative FPTP has served them well for the last 65 years, it is not in their interest to change the system.
-
Well the country have just overwhelmingly decided that FPTP is a better system than AV, so the majority of people can't be that upset with it.

Can't recommend Terravina enough. Good food, great service. Wines are exceptional but reasonably priced. The owner, Gerrard Basset, is the current world champion sommelier. His head sommelier is the the current British Champion. They really know their stuff. If you go, ignore the wine list and let them choose for you - you won't regret it.

Just pinched this from the live feed on BBC - is it me or are the percentages a bit fishy? There have been two declarations so far in the AV referendum - both in favour of the No campaign. On the Isles of Scilly, 39.76% (288 people) voted Yes and 65.3% (542 people) voted No. On the Orkney Islands, there was a Yes vote of 39.76% (3,187) and a No vote of 60.42% (4,829).

Went and voted No because I don' believe AV will deliver the "fairness" that everyone thinks it will. The FT ran an interesting article on this yesterday. They said that if the 2010 election was run under AV, the only party to gain seats would be the lib dems, the other minority parties would hold exactly the same number of seats that they won on the FPTP rules. Perhaps they should have given us a choice of systems and I may have voted differently.
-
But isn't this reason that the libs are pushing for AV and PR. It will enable them to have a much greater (and probably disproportionate say in running the country). Labour support it because a) to get up DC's nose and may damage the coaltion and b) the chances are they will sweep up a lot of the liberal second votes so they stand to gain a lot more that the tories. I am willing to bet my life, wife and mortgage that if the FPTP system benefitted the libs over the other parties, they would be less keen to promote such noble ideas as PR. All the parties couldn't care less about the democratic rights or wrongs of the system, they are just interested in the method that will deliver them the greatest chance of power.
-
You could argue if AV is so good why doesn't labour use it for their leadership election. Out of interest how does the liberals elect their leader?
-
Trouble with AV is, is that it is complicated. The current system is simple if nothing else - he who gets the most votes wins. If we want a more engaged population when it comes to voting the complicating the issue won't help. Even Nick Clegg thinks AV is "a miserable little compromise" and he's the one championing it.

Could anyone make any reform to the NHS without attracting this kind of flack? It is not called one of the "third rails" of politics for nothing.

10 course tasting menu is excellent - although if you have the accompanying wines you will be p*ssed at the end of the meal

I would be surprised if LIFO is still legal. LIFO could be constituted as indirect age discrimination against young people. These days employers are advised against linking benefits to length of service over five years for this reason. With regards to the selection process, When I was looking into this a couple of years ago, I was staggered to find out that the employer can set there own selection criteria and provide different weighting to each. So with a bit a clever planning an employer can fix the process so that the individuals the employer would like to lose are automatically selected for redundancy. This does seem to make a mockery of the whole process. Good luck to all you out who going through it.

Dune - wind it in will you. I know that you dislike him, but for Christ's Sake give a rest. We are all bored of it.
