The difference being that Les had , to his credit, been previously associated with some success in his career. (Some low spots as well, eg at Charlton, but he still had a reasonable reputation). Sports Republic just lurch from one clusterfuck to another.
  2. Lampard’s success with Coventry last season is another example of taking a team up the division into play offs, and even promotion from a poor start in the Championship. Others are Cooper and years ago Keane at Sunderland. Shows it can be done. But depends on doing it in good time, and making the right appointment. Therein perhaps lies the flaw in the plan. Over to SR.

How has Dragan been successful in business? He seems to be a magnet for egotists, duds, dunces, and total retards in his time at Saints
  4. Could be the next interim manager, and possible permanent with SR in charge (I agree with you btw)

I was shouted down for making a comment about hoping he wasn’t Mara Mk II earlier in the season. Perhaps not so wide of the mark.

I think Trollope managed in L1. Perhaps that offers some consolation and comfort.

Or a part time job with the recruitment team
  8. Credit where it’s due, I thought he played the media quite well last week. Even taking into account he was making sounds to appeal to the skate audience ( and I didn’t agree with him on some of what he said).
  9. Good question. Which leads me to wonder “how many Sports Republic management structure does it need to change a lightbulb?”. I’ve calculated 8 although may have missed someone Presumably: Dragan to pay for it. Spors, Lederer and a software bloke formerly of Barclays Bank , to scour the market for the best one available, probably a prototype that’s still in the early stages of development and not widely known to the rest of the market. A technician to give it a check up, but if it doesn’t work now it’s not an issue as it may be okay in about two years, even if it doesn’t shine as brightly ever again Then, another one, the person to implement it functioning , if it was Martin he’d make sure it was a eco friendly, or Still to check how it would function on FM or his X-box. And he’d be assisted in this pursuit by a bloke from Luton, because they’ve dealt with light bulbs before. And Nivea, because he’s there.

Someone daft enough to pay in excess of £200m I’d have thought

This is a comment I posted 20th May on the ‘who do you want as manager’ thread (now locked). No idea how to post a quote from it but here’s a screenshot (of one I made earlier as they used to say) Appointment was another huge gamble, which many accepted on the back of the French journalists talk on Solent and his tactics talk with Carragher.
  13. Carrick was supposedly high on the Rasmus list a couple of years ago (before we appointed Lego). Although we’re told Rasmus is hands off. Rohl would have been my choice in the summer, although he didn’t do himself any favours with his interviews etc at the end of last season and summer.
  14. Has already gone somewhere.

Go back to early in this and the who do you want thread ? Think you’ll be surprised how many were taken in, especially after the French journalists bit on Solent
  16. I had a ticket for today but a family illness put paid to that. Thankfully. Turned in the box to watch the wimmin’s rugby, just as France scored a try. ( Used to happen frequently on Solent v Saints so shouldn’t have been surprised). I’m done with sport on a Saturday. Have to find a new hobby. Any good ‘stop the boats’ protests next weekend? Doesn’t matter which side you take, bound to be more entertaining than this shit
  17. This stood out like the dog’s bollocks I most fans. Why the fucking retards we have in our recruitment team couldn’t see it is bordering on criminal neglect. But there were people on here saying our GK’s were adequate for this level, as were our strikers.* *To save MLG the trouble I’ll remind everyone that Archer scored 18 goals in 40 championship games earlier in his career.
  18. He’s had two weeks at Staplewood. We’ve coached any talent out of him
  19. Did you ? Can’t say I was over enthusiastic. At least he’s lived up to expectation so far. BUT, in fairness to him he’s another manager let down by recruitment. What was the fucking point in Downes, (as with Archer 12 months before).
  20. Again. Of course, no one saw that coming, with our track record of careful hand picked selections. But, but, but …. a French journalist spoke highly of him. And he gave a good talk on tactics to Carragher once. (Or so some said - from what I saw on YouTube it was as dull as ditchwater),
  21. They’ll give him until Christmas
  22. I can’t see Lallana as a head coach or manager. Perhaps doing him a disservice, but just doesn’t seem to have the drive. He may of course be ‘one to watch’ as he could well fit a Rasmus identikit for an appointment (young, enthusiastic, few coaching badges, someone no one else would consider.., plus cheap and available)
  23. Perhaps a change of career. On the stage as ‘Blackbeard the pirate’ in panto season
  24. I’d expect a mid to lower Championship team will see he’s had a promotion, and also worked with small budgets at Swansea and MK. That will make him attractive to them but his ego and expectation of his own worth might be greater. Failing that : MK Dons - “unfinished business “. Forest Green - and their eco owner - might be closer to his spiritual home ( and level!) Or perhaps Leicester if your current bloke doesn’t work out.
  25. John McGrath was one of my earliest Saints heroes. The game you mention might have been the League Cup match (quarter final ) in December 1978. Ball was with Saints at the time but Rodrigues had moved on (and was at his pub - near you of course - King Rufus in Eling).
