Other pub sightings: Steve Moran, and Frank Worthington (different times).
-
Not sure it’s a ‘bumping into’ but a sighting. As a child in the late 60’s/possibly 1970 I was sat in a pub for a meal with parents and family. Terry Paine walked in. He was enveloped by a large sheepskin coat (standard for the day), although even as a kid it looked two sizes too big for him. In those days if you saw a teacher on a Saturday in their private life doing something as trivial as shopping it was considered something of note. To see a professional footballer was in a different stratosphere. My Dad did explain that off the football pitch, the pub was one of their best known habitats. ( Years later revealing more stories of Big Ron at closing time).

So we’re poor at recruiting in the first place, and poor at moving players on. Seems to be a consistent thread here. Hope Spors changes things.

Most fans will have a strong view on the kit their teams trots out in, mostly based on ‘tradition’ and maintaining that. I’d like to see a more traditional kit, and if it is going to pay homage to the 1976/7 shirt then should do so fully. That said I wouldn’t look to wear it myself, though understand many others do. This I don’t follow, as to why a grown adult wants to have a number and someone else’s name on the back of it. It’s an age thing I’m sure but I see plenty who I’d put in the ‘old enough to know better camp’ doing it, sometimes older than me.

In principle it’s a good move having an experienced head in the coaching set up with recent first hand knowledge of players at that level. If used fully he should be going to Still/ Spors with the obvious candidates ( eg off the top of my head, Johannsen, Fellows - even if we don’t get them). But I expect he’ll be shown a spreadsheet and diagrams as to why the player isn’t suitable … and £3.5m on an unknown has better growth potential

Might depend who else we bring in, but does have a feeling of familiarity to it.

Expect they’ll trotting out the “British citizen” card when he’s detained somewhere.
-
He’s a front footed assistant manager. Could have been a shelf stacker or PE teacher in Trowbridge or Calne …
-
Just a thought, but would a plain back be cheaper to manufacture than stripes ? Obviously doesn’t worry Brentford, and others.
-
Even Rupert gave fans a choice from time to time.
-
No but he went in with his replacement. So they did a fantastic job keeping the club on the same upward trajectory after the trauma of losing Nathan Jones.

Downs looks a lot better in that video. Hope we’ve a got a winger as good as Steve De Ridder lined up as well.
-
A small consolation.
-
A better read and shows him in a more positive light than the YouTube video
-
Trust the recruitment team they’ll have plenty of names.

Have said it before: what is wrong with these people (fucking cretins) who design and select the shirts ?
-
Part of the link last summer was his relationship with Martin. No chance that move will now be resurrected, loan or otherwise.

First goal was a scuff that Che would have been proud of. Looks as if he likes a tap in as well. But nothing of note there, apart from a top knot, and a bit reminiscent of Mara. Definitely give him a miss and onto the next one. Hopefully.

1982 had its moments, although it was played as I remember just after the Falklands War so that was a bit of distraction. ( All delighted when the Argies lost their opening game). Some great moments early stages, was it Brazil v Italy with some spectacular goals ? Brazil looked great at one point. Schumachers assault stands the test of time. But they bollocksed the format up with a second group stage of groups of three. Teams seemed to play not to lose. Really stagnated the format. Never repeated.

Wasn’t he their manager when they beat us 1-0 in the Cup, Lambert scoring

Can only hope Still is on board with this appointment. Good idea to add some experience to the management team but whether Still sees it that way, or would rather appoint his own team, is another matter.
-
I made a comment the other week when his name was first mooted. I’m sure Ted Bates tried to sign John Trollope but Swindon refused to sell.

Read the title and wondered what song it came from. No idea, perhaps the next line is about 4,000 holes in Blackburn, Lancashire…

Don't know how you reached that conclusion. From his page he looks like the quiet 'old boy' who sits in the corner of his local nursing his pint, and will have a chat with all and sundry. Every pub used to have them. So it it really beyond the realms of possibility that someone popped in and in the middle of a casual chat about the weather, cost of a pint etc, just dropped into the conversation, as anyone might, that they had received or tabled a £150m bid for Saints that day ? Of course we've no idea if it was Dragan himself stopping by for a swift one on the way home, or some Arab cunt (for an orange juice). Anyway, I'll leave it for other to decide how credible this is.
