For those of you saying well done to little Bournemouth and it's great , here are a few facts for you. They hate us and call us scummers They love Pompey & particular Twitchy It is not some sort of fairy story , they pay massive wages and have outspent most clubs in that league . They are following the Portsmouth model , with a rich Russian bankrolling a Poxy little club . It makes me laugh that people complain about The Skates and yet another side who do exactly the same thing are praised .

If Milliband is so concerned about post conflict planning , why did he vote against setting up the Iraq inquiry 4 times?
-
I hate to say it but I agree with Fry . Ideal situation for them is Tory Government and uk voting to leave EU because that's the only set of circumstances that would legitimise another referendum . Don't forget sturgeon was booed in Scottish debate when talking about another one . Therefore if labour get in , they ain't going to get a referendum . What they'll want to do is show the sweatys they are efficient , statesmen like and looking after their interests in Westminster . The quickest way to lose their new found labourites is to bring down a labour government . Don't forget they only got a similar number of votes as the Tories last election , it was only FPTP that ensured the panda " joke". Their new found bloc is soft at the moment , they are not going to jeopardise that support .

FFS , what do you want , all commercial loans to go via Whitehall . I need protecting from drinking too much , can I blame the government for that . Perhaps you can get civil servant to tuck the nations children into bed

So in a culture of spending before earning , it's easy to persuade people that the country needs to spend less?
-
People have always made decisions in moments of weakness . You seem to be missing the point . The point he made was that they see themselves as victims , they take no responsibility for there weakness . His implication was that past generations would take the line , " oh ****, I've ****ed up " whereas now it's the lenders fault or even worse the government fault
-
Exactly . Of course personal debt is different than sovereign debt , but the point Portillio was making is that when debtors feel that they are victims . when their personal debt is blamed on others in the form of , government , pay day lenders , banks, shops , rather than personal responsibility ( and before lefties start jumping up and down I know there are some people who can't help it ) it is a difficult climate to try and promote government cutting back on spending .
-
Its not just Scotland , huge numbers across the whole of the UK seem to think debt doesn't matter. Did you see Portillio on " This Week" last night? He claimed that many many people drowning in personal debt believe they're victims, that its somebody else's fault they've overspent . He said trying to sell the message of debt reduction in the modern UK is a thankless task. I don't normally agree with that lovey , but he's right. There has been a shift in attitudes towards debt, both personal & national , between my fathers generation and mine.

What about Property Duty? What about Band 1 as we already have houses rated by bands? No, there no good . You have to have a name that screams "we're hitting the rich", so "Mansion tax" it is. Your point about Liverpool is a good one. If I owned a £1.9mil house in Liverpool area, I'm sure Id be wealthier than owning a £2.1 million one in London. So the common sense approach would be to band the top 2%/5%/10% (whatever you want) in every region. The problem with that is that if you're setting nationally paid taxes based on locality and cost of living, the natural extension of that is doing the same for benefits, public sector pay, and minimum wage. Lefties & Ed's union sponsors wont have that. Until Labour can explain the basics and it's pretty basic , when it kicks in, what the rate is, then "anyone with an ounce of intelligence" knows its purely grandstanding to wet lefties.
-
Ed was asked today " so you live in a mansion " , his reply ? " No, that's just what we call it " . Everything you need to know about this tax summed up in one line , " that's just what we call it" . Even the word "Mansion" is classic labour class warfare . Ed doesn't live in a mansion (it's just what we call it) but the word implies rich bar stewards that need their pips squeaking . This week the policy has been exposed for the nonsense that it is . Firstly , by Andrew Neil and secondly from Eds own mouth . Dog whistle politics at its finest . In some ways I do hope Ed gets in , because when he makes a complete and utter horlicks of it ( like Hollande in France ) it might shut a few lefties up.
-
A mansion tax will raise peanuts compared to the amount we spend & good luck with taxing second homes , a decent tax advisor will run rings round that one . With all due respect you are still skirting around the issue . This progressive tax regime of yours , will rates be set to maximise revenue or do you just want a "fair "% out of rich ******s ? You just seem to be throwing insults around about selfish people and rich people blah blah blah , but you can't seem to decide the goal of you tax system . It's a very simple question , do you think the top rate of tax should be set at the rate that brings in most revenue? If a top rate of 35% generated more revenue than 50% would you give millionaires this " tax break" or would you rather less money came in but you'll feel better about yourself , because you've stuck it to the toffs .
-
Ok , so you would rather the tax rate was higher , even if it brings in less revenue ? Rich ******s can afford it yeah? Why don't we make it 80% and punish them even more . Rooney could still live on the 20% of his wages we let him keep.
-
Maybe, but that wasn't the question . Should fairness be judged on total tax take from millionaires or the headline rate they pay ?
-
I think we have the full backs and with Toby , Jose and yoshida we have the centre halves . Morgan and Big Vic also fit well in the system . The downside is back ups don't fit it, Targett & Gardos and you also need a full preseason to work on it. I like it, because you get 2 up front , without being outnumbered in midfield .
-
Do you want " millionaires " as a group of people to pay more into the pot or less? Do you judge fairness in terms of total tax take that we get from millionaires or the headline rate they pay?
-
Watch this from 4.30 and then come back and discuss the Mansion Tax. They haven't got a clue how it'll work, when it'll start, what the % rate will be or even name independent experts that advised them the money they'll get in. It's clearly just a dog whistle to lefties. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wqlog7_u3XI
-
But surely if house prices in London are failing now , the mansion tax won't bring in the amounts they claim ?
-
Nobody is getting the finances back in order , it's smoke and mirrors . They will all be adding to the debt but hoping growth will reduce the % of GDP . We will be swimming in debt come 2020 , whoever wins the election , it's just whether it'll be eye watering labour debt or massive Tory debt.

Gallagher on the bench against the North London Yobbos, please
Lord Duckhunter replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
I watched the game on sky and I felt Hesketh & Seager the stand out players ( except Target & Reed who are basically first team squad players) . However, I feel both of them are a bit lightweight at present and not quite ready for the first team. Gallagher looks physically capable and there's no doubt that was a good goal , but whether he's good enough is another thing. Personally I don't go in for all this " give the kids a chance " for the sake of it. One great thing about Ron is that if they're ready and we need them, they play. But he doesn't do it just for the sake of it. If you play 6 or 7 nippers in the cup, they're not really playing first team football, but playing for the U21's in a first team competition. Reed & Targetts first team experience this season has been playing in the first team, with the first team and that's better for their development than just giving them a game because they're young. How do they react to playing with internationals , to bollockings from senior players, to being under pressure for points in front of a full house? The Everton game convinced me that Reed has got what it takes, it was a proper game , under pressure and he did well. Had thast been an FA cup game playing with 6 other nippers, it wouldn' t have told us much. -
But not about our children , grand children and their children. Your " caring " society just want to kick the debt can down the road and burden future generations. Its generational theft . In times of peace and relative prosperity each generation should only spend what it generates.

One result of the establishments open door immigration policy is that the poor unfortunates presently risking their lives in the med will not be treated as they should. Seeing as the west basically contributed to the mess in Libya , we owe it to these people to look after them before putting a permanent fix in place. We have helped Ugandans & boat people ect in the past . However, our disastrous immigration policy , letting large numbers of these people settle is toxic for any political party. Can't people see that these people are far more deserving of a new life than citizens of other NATO & EU countries.
