The original intent is exactly what is is now , " ever closer union" is the fundamental principle set out at the start . It's just that the British establishment have lied about it . Europeans are fully aware of what the eu is and the majority are comforforable with it . Instead of trying to persuade the British of the merits of ever closer union, free movement of people and a federal Europe , British politicians have lied and signed up to everything by stealth . It was never intended to be a trading bloc only , if it was it would still be called the Common Market .

Surely Nelson Mandela & Charlie boy are complete opposites . One fought against oppression , believed that every man was equal no matter what colour or class they were . Whilst the other one was " born to reign over us" . Has a job that non of the great unwashed can ever have and got it on the back on the basis of who his family were . If SA had crowned King Nelson , had he passed the crown on to his first born , then maybe I'd get the similarity . -
I wonder if the local Muslim bakers will bake me a nice cake with Mohammed on it?

Wouldn't be all bad, at least lefties would shut up about equality.

I would only go for Green if it was a loan till Jan & QPR pick up half his wages. Or he signs for free on about 20k a week, to play until Frasier is back, then become back up. He's a pretty decent back up to have, better than kelvin or Gaza. But I cant really see it happening .

‘You have to be careful in football, geographically with Portsmouth you are required to pay more for the standard of living than other people." WTF!!!!!!!

Spent an enjoyable evening getting totally bladderated with my mate from the gutter press. Anyway, he told me what we all suspected about Chucka with the sudden appearance of "The Girlfriend" . However , the interesting thing is the rumoured story is one of old Chucka and a very famous fella. Said he did not know the name and at the moment they ( the rag chasing it) " can't stand the story up" ( whatever that means ) , but watch this space.

Didn't see this thread and started one of my own. Hopefully mods can merge it. His version of Leon Russesl's Humingbird, is one of the greatest covers I've ever heard. saw him back in the 90's and he was incredible.

The great man passed away last night, was lucky enough to see him perform live. Legend.

Firstly , you're assuming I'm a Tory , which I'm not . Secondly I don't believe many charities and churches are " neutral" . Thirdly , thanks for the conformation .

Burnham for me , my preference would be Abbott but unfortunately it doesn't look like she will be standing . As for the lib/dumbs , Jeremy Browne was head and shoulders above any of them and yet Cleggy binned him and he stood down . We will never know but I reckon he'd have kept his seat, although the sandal wearers would never tolerate him as leader as he's far too sensible . I was half expecting him to turn up on the Tory benches , but I guess guys with his talent can make more money with less hassle out of politics . A bigger loss that Hic Kennedy , Hughes , Jailbird Huhme , cable & that Green loon Davey all added together . How the **** Bennett is still in her job is beyond me. How do they choose their leader, do they have a lentil bake off , or dance off at Stonehenge on the longest day . What sort of selection process came up with that half bake? As for ukip , Nigel should be packed off to the lords ( it's quite disgraceful how underrepresented this major party is in the upper house ) & Paul Nuttall or Suzanne Evans placed in charge .

The problem with you lefties is the hyperbole . You hijack the English langaguge banging on about " fairness" & " progressive" , you over hype everything . Instead of saying you disagree with certain aspects of Tory NHS, it's " 24 hours to save NHS" or it's being sold to Tory fat cats or an American system is coming . A cut in benefit is renamed a tax and people are dying because of it, child poverty is rife, the Tories are evil , it's all way ott . If half of it was true the Tories wouldn't stand an earthly of ever getting elected , yet they've just been given a mandate . Clearly the British people don't believe lefties nonsense, but instead of learning that lesson , instead of toning it down a bit and arguing / debating sensibly without all the nonsense about killing people and like , it's the same old same old . The stupid thing is the labour politicians don't believe it anymore than I do . Everybody knows there's not much difference between the establishment parties on policy , a bit here & a bit there , but they hype it all up for political purpose and then half bakes take it as fact . As a Rightie I hope it continues because I'd like to see right leaning politicians in power, I hope we have another 5 years of the same old nonsense , same old wild claims about wicked Tories because come the next election we will get the same result . Why can lefties accept the right want a decent standard of living for all, want opportunity for the many, want social mobility and a caring society , but believe that their policies to achieve this are well meaning but wrong . I think the left is well meaning but wrong , with lefties it's always selfish , dangerous , uncaring , deliberately cruel ect ect .

There's only one thing more sickening than pious leftie celebs and that's pious leftie vicars . No wonder religion is becoming an irralavance in this country . What happened to the Cyrstal Methodist , wasn't he a labourite ? I love the " shared 100,000 times " . **** me, it's less than a week ago that millions gave the Tories a mandate to carry on , perhaps we should have Facebook or Twitter elections . Forget voting, whoever gets the most " likes" , or shares becomes PM. Just love the way the lefties have reacted to their crushing defeat , when are they going to wake up and smell the coffee .

I agree with applying it to poor people in the private rental sector. Its only poor people in social housing that are dying because of it.

Correct, I always adjust my drinking around kick off times. This game kicks off 2 hours 15 mins early so I'll arrive in alehouse 2 hrs 15 mins early. The only exception is Sunday 4pm kick off , when I still leave home for 3 o'clock kick off. As Mrs duck says " football is a pub crawl with a match in the middle. " She was nagging when she said it, but I thought it was quite profound.

Lightweights . Good prematch booze up is part of the match day experience no matter what time kick off is .

I'm going to tell them I'm a labour voter, then they'll get a rich bloke to pay for my coffee.

Whether there's more birds in the government or not its a pretty decent start from Cameron. He's never been my sort of Tory, too wet for my liking , but if he continues like this it looks good. Priti Patel is not just a pretty filly , but has some sound opinions, great he's demoted that plum Shapps . I like the appointment of Gove to ditch the HRA , but the best move is Whitingdale , watch out the Bloated Broadcasting Corporation. He's dropped the ball by ditching Pickles, and I hoped we'd seen the last of Anna Soubry . Looks like the voters have done him a massive favour by ditching the dead weight of the lib/dumbs and he can press ahead whilst the unions decided which leader to install .

Calling All Employment Law or HR "Experts"

I've spoken tonight to my mate who is a manager at said DIY shop , we were arranging a good drink up at the weekend , but I did mention this to him. Company policy is not to dismiss for gross misconduct without an investigation , followed by a formal meeting . This applies to any length of service , however any right of appeal is subject to length of service and there won't be one in this case. If they haven't dismissed on a gross misconduct basis , they can just pay him a months money and again there is no appeal , but more importantly no investigation , formal meeting or anything similar . They can just send a letter stating that they are terminating his contract and paying him a months notice. This letter should not mention any gross misconduct and the can not mention gross misconduct on any reference or further communication . In your sons case it looks like they've taken the easier option of just terminating contract , with notice . The only redress if if he feels he was discriminated against because of race , gender or sexual preference . If they haven't sent him a letter or paid him a months notice then they have broken company policy and although it won't get your sons job back , will get someone in trouble if you complain . -
This isn't a Tory or labour issue. Whether its Lisbon or Maastricht the establishment have signed away parts of our sovereignty.

Which area was the store in? That particular company have quite a good name in terms of retail employment, so I'm quite surprised they've treated him like this. I do know that they are restructuring their own HR and taking them out of stores, giving the management more autonomy over this sort of thing. I'm amazed there hasn't been anything in writing . Was he on a fixed term contract or a permanent one.I personally know the manager of the store near me and they only take people on for 3 months, before deciding whether to then make the job permanent? Are they paying him any notice? As people have posted already , there's not much you can do in terms of employment law, but this company have got a process to follow regardless of length of service. If they've moved away from that process then the manger will find himself/herself in bother. Its not going to help your lad but may stop a repeat. Was it the top manager who sacked him or one of the lower tier , if you wanted to take it further I would write to the immediate boss of the person that sacked him copying in head office HR. -
This is exactly what's going to happen. Harold Wilson pulled the same trick on the British people over 40 years ago. A tinkering around the edges sold as a better deal for Britain and then misrepresented the " out" position. It is how the EUSSR works , ffs they even rerun referendum when people vote the " wrong" way. Maastricht changed the UK's relationship with Europe , yet people who said so were made out to be loons & racists. The problem four the outers now is there's no Tony Benn, no Bob Crow to argue from the left. The thing will be framed around the loony right against the mainstream . The whole thing will be a smoke & mirrors act. A bit of benefit changes dressed up as immigration controls and a few straw men knocked down. Whilst we move on towards " ever closer union" .

Because any independent jockistan will have pr elections . In 2005 the Tories were within 2% of the SNP under Michael Howard, and in 2010 they were pretty close to their share . Look at Wales in 2001 there were no Tory MPs , they are slowly building up support as labour make a pigs ear of running the assembly , and the Taffy NHS in particular. Let the Sweatys have 20 years of lefty policies and then see where they vote. They will need someone to clear up the mess. BTW I didn't say it would necessary be the Tories , just a party of the right. It may even be a new party, not connected to Tories.
