  1. Chances are Hull and Reading will be in the same League as us next season (if we sign Austin). Another half a season one league down is not going to make much difference as he'll have the confidence to think "if I sign, they'll go up". I think we've a good chance of getting him unless a Premier league or top championship side come knocking. At the end of the day an inexperianced player like him is going to lean very heavily on his agent, so if we offer decent terms for a long contract, we could be in with a shout. If we can attract Jose Fonte with -10, we can attract Austin. I think we should push the boat out a bit here, he's the hottest property in League 1 and to snap him up sends out a powerful message of our intent.
  2. I think we'll see our intentions over Puncheon tomorrow, if we are looking to move him on we wont want him cup tied, cause that may affect the price.
  3. Didn't Leeds win at Old Trafford take Spurs to a reply and still win promotion.
  4. I've just had a horrible vision
  5. But that game is a distraction for them.
  6. When I heard on talksport this morning his odds were 80-1 to score 3, I thought they meant all season. The same game should have been 3,000-1, no wonder the bookies make so much money.
  7. Dont quite understand what your point is. I'm fully aware of the timescales and players we had. The point I was trying to make was that before the 3rd round Villa game, nobody could have foreseen a cup win, not even Lawrie himself.Had Lawrie taken the modern approach and dimissed the cup as a fixture congestion, then the greatest day in our sporting lives would never have happened.I would take another 3 years in this league, if it meant looking back as an 80 year old at memories of the only 3rd flight side to ever win the thing.Perhaps I'm old fashioned, but I prefer the appraoch of past years, "lets win every game we play and paly a full side". For a club with such a historic cup history, I find Hollowhead's approach sad.
  8. I'm glad that Lawrie didn't think the cup was a distraction that would hinder our promotion hopes in '76. Would people have swapped that wonderful day for promotion that season?
  9. Harry Redknapp was a crap Manager for us, that's a fact. It's also a fact that people like Fuller, Crainey, McCann and Euall were also crap, no matter what they went on to do later. It's not really the supporters fault is it?
  10. "If Crainey plays for Blackpool, so can I"
  11. I take it that those of you who aren't interested in the cup or would rather we weren't involved, wont be wanting tickets if we reach the Semi Final or get a decent draw next round? At least there wont be a mad rush for tickets as there was for the JPT. Those old fashioned ones amongst us,who want us to win it or make history as the first 3rd flight finalists, will get tickets no problem.
  12. Hollowhead is one of the first to spout on about Sepp Blatter and Fifa ruining the game, but actions like this ruin the most historic club cup comp in the world.People like John Sillet,Bobby Gould Lawrie, and Bob Stokeo are remembered for winning the cup and players like Bobby, Roger Osbourne and Lawrie Sanchez for knocking in the winner. In 30 years time nobody will remember that Hollowhead kept Blackpool in the top flight for 2 seasons or that DJ Campbell scored an equaliser at home to Liverpool. They'll all remember the day Blackpool turned the clock back 50 years and won the cup. I hope we stuff them.
  13. Hugh Heffner Jimmy Carter Tracey Barlow
  14. I can't believe Smiths wont go the same way. The business models of both Companies is unsustainable in the modern internet world. Sad for the people who will lose their jobs, but retail is a cut throat business .
  15. Robbie Robertson was pretty good in carny, (Jodie Foster was hot in that) as was Kris Kristofferson in Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (good that is, not hot).
  16. When I think about some of the dross we've watched the past 3/4 years, I think Seabourne is a pretty decent prospect. Certainly he can get better, but you need players who are going to improve as we move up through the Leagues. There aren't going to be too many Centre halfs that are the finished article at his age.I thought we wanted a coaching structure that identified young talent and improved them, not sold them as soon as the first offer comes in.
  17. I was born in Southampton, but Dad’s job took him away when I was young and we never moved back. All my kids support Saints and yet none of them were born in the City or have ever lived in it. They just follow my team (they have had it rammed down their throats since youngsters). After the away game at Swindon this season my little lad who is 11 said “I wish you had never been born in Southampton”. My Dad used to watch Saints one week and Boscombe the next and gradually started to travel back to Southampton less and less, whereas I kept it up and never considered watching Boscombe regular. I go to the game with a crowd of guys from Poole and I’m the only one who was born in Southampton. However, I am the one who goes to the least amount of away games out of all of us. A part of me does wonder why they never supported Boscombe, I guess when they were younger they just followed the bigger and better localish club. At the end of the day, we are all supporters, whether you were born and bred in the City, born and moved away or just follow the club with no obvious ties to it. It’s not for others to judge who is a real supporter (unless you’re talking about the ones who have abandoned us since the Premiership days).
  18. Chris Marsden, Bridge, Antti Niemi, and Michael Svensson must get a mention for effort and guts. His attempts to make a comeback were unbelieveable. I would therefore give it to Killer, not only for his efforts on the comeback trail, but I belive he's the only player of the past decade (Matt aside) that would get in a Saints "all time" best team. On his day, he's up there with the best we've ever had.
  19. My local when I lived in the States, put the price of the beer up on New Years eve. The American owner didn't understand that we Brits wouldn't stand for it. He soon did when about 30 expats all walked out and went to a bar down the road. He never did that again.
  20. I was always moaning about Colin Clarke and never rated him.One night me and a few mates were out and he was stood at the bar. One of my mates said something along the lines of "go on then, tell him what you tell us every week". Seeing as I had consumed a few I went over and told him.He was pretty good about it really, just said some comment along the lines of (I was a bit ****ed so cant really recall 100%) "who do you play for, what do you know about the game".I alsogot told to "**** off" by Stewart Ripley after giving him some abuse when he came near my seat at The Dell. The nicest bloke I met was Ken Monkou, who introduced me and my Mrs to his mum, when we saw him out. Away from football we bumped into Jim Bowan once in the 100 club at a jazz night, he got up and did a couple of numbers with the band.My mate said "that was super smashing lovely singing Jim", to which Bowan turned and said "**** off you ****".
  21. Who would have thought 10 years ago that we would be facing Premiership top 8 side Blackpool in the FA Cup and hoping for a giant killing. Even the most one eyed Skate couldn't have hoped for that, when he saw the new year in 10 years ago.
  22. I have spent far too many NYE's expecting a great night and ending up wandering from pub to pub trying to find the right venue. We used to go to the Lord Nelson on Poole Quay, which was a great night under the old landlord who left 10 years ago, since then we've never really found a replacement venue. We've given up now, and tonight me the kids and Mrs Duck are eating out at an Italian and then going home about 10.I must be getting old, but I'm really looking forward to
  23. You are right, however any Govt that containts Leftie Ken Clarke can hardly be called Tory. It comes to something when the lefties are on the right of a Tory Govt when it comes to crime and punishment.
  24. If we followed your logic, we could have pornos on C4 every night, there are other channels to watch.
