  1. I heard the towels are secondhand ones from the skates cos thats all we could afford. We're in trouble, no doubt in my mind.
  2. try the veal? Is that a euphemism?
  3. The anti-war march would have had the same numbers regardless of union backing imo, there was a genuine widespread public opposition to it. That was more a case of the unions bandwagon-jumping.
  4. Thats an interesting point. I always envisaged Pardew as being Cortese's idea of a manager who could take us up through the divisions and provide continuity throughout without chopping and changing. Its hard to imagine another manager with the sort of experience he had at all levels being available to a L1 side when the Pardew situation went pear shaped

  6. that hadnt occurred to me, but its a decent shout.

  13. He may have a point TDD, but I hope we wont have to test it.
  14. The same type of man who would pull the rug from under his entirely more capable brother by a backdoor deal with the unions, I guess.
  15. Pedant It depends whether NA sees Dale Stephens as a temporary signing or a permanent one imo. If the idea is to get him on loan then sign him up permanently next season I imagine he'll be odds on for the starting lineup, if he's been brought in as cover then more likely on the bench. Be interesting to see him on saturday if he plays.
  16. alps negative??!! have you been drinking again
  17. is hamster dead yet?
  18. Good post, and the point about degrees does my head in every time I hear about tuition fees crippling the graduates. Blair had a "vision" I think he called it of at least half of all school leavers going on to get a degree. Didnt seem to occur to him that would effectively devalue the whole point of having one, or that it would mean a whole lot less school leavers going into the service industries, hence the ubiquitous "Polish plumbers" shipping in to supply that demand. If a potential graduate doesnt think his/her degree is going to be worth the money they are paying for it, which will in any case be written off at age 51, you have to wonder whether they are really suited to what is supposed to be an education aimed at the most intelligent and capable of our offspring. If they dont feel that its worth it, dont do it and get a job instead.
  19. yes, that is definitely true. And if the bag of grated cheese you bought is too bulky for your fridge, you can heat it til it softens and press it into a small block. Similarly, you can smoke herbal cigarettes while wearing a high-strength nicotine patch, works a treat that.
  20. is it just me, or do I detect a hint of cynicism?
  21. Labour managed to ignore a million people marching against the Iraq invasion, possibly the most misguided foreign policy decision in my lifetime.
