Queued up today for the shirt, got there at 1:15PM and had the shirt by 3PM. Really pleased that people are getting enthusiastic about Saints again, it's been a long time! Actually willing to queue up for it, never seen anything like it I have to say. A great family atmosphere with the Sky Ride taking place and plenty of parents with nippers buying the new shirt in the queue. Spoke to a few in the queue and had a few come upto me whilst walking past saying 'the new shirt's really nice' etc. which was surprising. The general consensus with the people in the queue was that they love it. Even saw James Ward-Prowse outside the store, one fan asked him what he thought of the kit and I overheard him say he thought it was nice. Picked up a new training jacket while I was there too, red on the shirt and a maroon colour on the sleeves which I thought was nice too.

I expected a bad reaction from this forum and probably 50% of Saints fans in general, but I didn't expect this. Some of the reactions have been downright pathetic. 'This is almost as bad as Cardiff going from red to blue!!' What? We've always played in Red and White. We have a Mainly Red (admittedly) and white kit? We haven't gone from red and white stripes to Green or Blue have we, so it's nowhere near as bad as the Cardiff situation. For the record, I genuinely think if someone tried that at Saints there'd be protests outside the stadium. For me it's nice to have a change, to shake things up a bit and have something a bit different every now and again, not every season, but every 3-5 years have an all red kit or an all white kit or something? Can't see the harm in that myself. It may be 'blasphemous' of me to say this according to some wrist-slitters on this thread, but I get bored with the same old lazy red and white stripes every season. I also get bored with all the people that go 'oh the away shirt has to be yellow!' why, because we won the FA Cup in it in 1976? Like 36 years ago?! 'Oh and if we don't have a yellow away kit we can't sing YELLOWS YELLOWS!!' Just look at some of Sheffield United and Stokes kits in the last 15 years, hardly any variation whatsoever 'but those are their traditional colours!' that's true, but it's still boring as hell as it shows no inspiration. I think what Cortese has done is taken a chance, gone 'we've had red and white stripes now for the past 22 years (apart from 2010-11) and said f**k let's have a change' Maybe he's bored of the traditional red and white stripes too? I've seen numerous threads on the new kits over the last 6 years on this forum and some years people complain because there isn't enough variation. I remember when the 2008-10 shirt came out everyone was excited as it was our first Umbro kit, but then it came out and alot of people on this very forum were like 'oh its just red and white stripes traditional, bit uninspiring and bland, won't be buying' etc. but when the club DOES do something new, something risque, you don't like it?

The neutrals take on our new kits: http://www.footballshirtculture.com/12/13-kits/southampton-2012-2013-umbro-home-a-away-football-shirts.html

Not being a native of Southampton, where can I get my shirt printed on Sunday as the Megastore won't be open (how stupid is that?). I'm guessing JJB, SportsDirect in West Quay?
-
The best part of the shirt is that we'll all be able go to Pompey wearing it. As they'll think 'it's all red so can't be a saints shirt'

The problem is that the majority of people on this forum are the 'older generation' and the 'older generation' definitely don't like change. I bought the wrong cerial for my nan once and she started crying. That's basically what the 'older generation' of Saints fans on this forum have done, they're so used to seeing 'saints play in Red and White!!!' that they forget the years when we had blue shorts, wore quarters, had a full red shirt with tiny white shoulder patches (1985-87). I always think it's great when a football club just goes 'F**K it' and make a kit that will be remembered.

I think Alpine et al. may have already slit their wrists at the look of the new kits. *Prepares for the 2-5 pages of moaning about the new kit* 'Won't be buying' will be said about 20-50 times I reckon.

Thanks. Still can't think of a footie shirt I actually own that's printed like this at the moment.

I'm going to the IS NFL game at Wembley on the 28th October. So if Sky change the Spurs home game to the Sunday I'll be very annoyed.

I'm trying to get my head around the whole printed on part. Can you give any other examples of shirts that have had their colours printed on?

Where did you find this information?

We waited for 5 hours at the Gotthard Tunnel on the way back from the Italian GP last year. Avoid if you can. -
I much prefer Celtic over Rangers too.

It was me that posted it on twitter about 10 minutes ago. I did it as an experiment to see how long it takes before someone re-posts it on this thread going 'The new kit's on twitter'

So the SMS megastore isn't open on Sunday, but the West Quay store is?

That's a mockup by Itchen_Dan, found on this very thread on page 7/8

Never have rated Carroll. He scored 19 in the FLC with Newcastle if I remember rightly, SRL scored 27 in the FLC last season...says it all really.

Club before country every day of the week. This is the first tournament where I honestly did not feel that crippling dissappointment when England went out. In the 2010 World Cup it was terrible because I was hoping England would cheer me up as we were currently in League 1, obviously we all know they didn't and got demolished my Germany. But this year, the HUGE achievement of Saints getting to the Premier League is far and away better than England winning the tournament/getting to the semi's so I honestly didn't feel that crushing dissappointment like I usually feel when England go out of major tournaments. I felt dissappointed don't get me wrong but it was far more 'oh well that's over with' rather than in 2010 'WHAT THE F**K ARE YOU DOING ENGLAND YOU USELESS PILES OF S**T' etc.
