  1. So Brexit isn't done, and the oven ready deal wasn't ready. The Northern Ireland border always made Brexit a non-starter, unless we stayed in the single market. Maybe it's time those who campaigned for it just acknowledge that simple fact.
  2. I quite like this season's format
  3. They may be crap at the moment but my Middlesex Member's son born in 1976 has seen Middlesex win the Championship eight times in his lifetime
  4. I am not complaining just felt strange Good to see Gubbins score runs as he has had a pretty lean time recently
  5. So are we currently bottom of the League as the other four teams involved got the same or more points than us Is there relegation?
  6. Felt a bit strange with two batsmen at the crease at the end with no real Hampshire pedigree but great to be in Div 1
  7. I do not think you understand what I am saying because you do not completely understand the process for penalty shootouts The team has to submit the five initial penalty takers prior to the shoot out Southgate chose his five after consideration to what had happened in training and the ones he chose chose did not perform as well as was required and neither did two of the Italians. Rashford made a mess of his which put put pressure on the other two who's penalties were not bad misses but not good enough and I thought the Italian Goalkeeper was excellent After choosing the five you cannot change the penalty takers so the die was cast not helped by having to take the last penalty I know we lost the shoot out and if others had taken them we may have one but I doubt if that would have happened but of course it may have Surely Southgate did what he thought was the best with his choice of penalty takers but it is not easy taking them as other teams missed them too as did Harry Kane in the previous game. On most occasions the score is not 5 5 after the initial shoot out and England have only won 2 out of 9 shootouts over twenty five years so there is need for improvement but how that can be achieved is not easy as the solution is pretty complex no doubt in the forthcoming Open Golf some of the leading golfers will make a balls up of a putt which they would normally make
  8. You may well think my post is stupid but the three who missed the penalties are top class performers they may well be young but they showed in training that they had the ability to score penalties But on the day they did not due to a combination of circumstances including the fact that the goalkeeper was imposing and has a good record of saving penalties and the fact that the team who takes the penalties usually wins If Grealish or Sterling had shown that they were more likely to score in training they would have taken them last night Southgate chose the ones he wanted to take them not on a whim but on evidence It is not as though the experienced Italian players scored all five they had two misses
  9. He maybe a kid but he is a top class footballer earning a huge amount of money
  10. I agree wish we had someone like him today
  11. I often wonder why people take up refereeing with people like you around But without them there would be no football
  12. I thought Shaw's foul which led to their goal was a bit soft as there was lots of holding and pushing going on but I accepted it like I accepted the penalty
  13. I do not remember Saints beating anybody of note getting to Wembley in 1976 but as they beat Man U 1 0 they won the cup
  14. Hardly surprising really as JWP is not as good as the players at Euro 20
  15. I think you missed out Sterling from your list but I agree what you are saying although I think Mings has played pretty well when he has played but he not as comfortable coming forward as Maguire
  16. In 1970 If I remember the game turned on a goalkeeping error by Bonetti not the substitutes
  17. Me to I would keep the same side to play Denmark as as that formation was the best of England team of the Tournament but will he do that or tinker with it
  18. Just like we were when Harry Redcrapp became manager
  19. We you not happy that we finally beat Germany in the knock out stages of a major tournament after so many attempts I am not sure how many But I remember 1970 Mexico 1990 Italy 1996 Wembley 2010 South Africa so I thought it was a great result and Southgate should be congratulated where Ramsey Robson Venables and Capello failed
  20. That maybe true but they were better even before VAR probably due to the culture and acceptance of the odd bad decision by the players
  21. I find it strange that we have crap football referees but excellent Rugby ones and cricket umpires
  22. I do not want him gone he is a good player we bought him over to the UK we should getting playing well
  23. Yes of course you are right but people do change jobs because they are in a rut and want new challenges. It cannot be easy for JWP preparing for another season with the Saints in a team which in all probability is going to struggle especially with the fixtures in the first few weeks. I expect he will stay because of what you originally wrote but their is a possibility that he will not but it is lucky for him that he can chose
  24. 5 years since the referendum and how right the Brexiters were. The NHS is getting an extra £350m a week, Turkey’s joined the EU, no-one threatened our place in the Single Market, Northern Ireland is fine and we got a better deal than the one we had because we held all the cards.
  25. Seems at the moment to be one of our best defensively which means we do not have to score many to win. Pretty good tactics I would have thought perhaps Ralph could use them
