  1. Harking back to the famous TV match win Liverpool had an equivalent (top class) lineup and we had to field a number of inexperienced youngsters but won quite comfortably. That said I expect Liverpool to score early on and cruise to a comfortable 3-0 win this time. Wouldnt it be good though to get one or even 3 points!!!
  2. Spot on We need to have a compete revamp next season if we stay up
  3. Notice he played for Catalonia in their 2-1 win over Venezuela in Girona Interesting to see what the response is from FIFA as Catalonia is not a recognised member of FIFA
  4. Honest Henry Redknapp - the man the Pompey News and many of the Pompey 'Faithful' were promoting for a Knighthood a few years back!!!
  5. It was I had the precise figure from some one who worked at Wembley at the time. Unfortunately I cant locate it now but recollect it was just short of 52,000
  6. Big piece in the Sunday Times about Mane today. Apparently his 'value' now exceeds £100m Same with VVD I guess. Unlikely, but it would be good if there were %'s from further sales within the transfer dealings with Liverpool
  7. The owner of Carnival Corp who are the parent company of Cunard, P&O and a number of other cruise companies owns the Miami Heat basketball team. His wife is from Fareham. However none of the Carnival group companies seem to have any interest in footie and the MD of Carnival UJK follows Pompey!!!
  8. I lived in Leeds for a while and was one of a handful of Saints supporters who were at Elland Rd in the early seventies during the Revie era. We pulled back to 1-1 after an impressive Joe Kirkup OG then Bill Bremner barged into our keeper, Jerry Gurr, after he had gathered a cross. Gurr tapped Bremner on the head with the ball. The Ref wasnt looking but Bremner went down holding his head The crowd roared and the Ref turned round to see Bremner on the ground holding his head and gave a penalty. I shouted out in disgust and realised that I was alone amongst thousands of Leeds fans Fortunately those around me were rather surprised at the soft penalty decision and probably had a degree of sympathy for a lone, and hard done, solitary Saints fan on their particular piece of terracing Overall though Leeds fans are not the nicest
  9. The return leg at the Dell was one of the most nail biting home games I experienced following Saints Great atmosphere Terry Curran was not one of the better players to turn out in a Saints shirt but did the business on the night. Remember him being sent off (same season?) at QPR
  10. David Prutton and Andy Reid used to boss the midfield for Nottm Forest but Prutton was a disappointment for Saints
  11. One thing I remember from a few years back is stopping at the big supermarket near Port Solent (Tesco's?) and seeing a lad coming out of the store in a red & white striped shirt, which turned out to be a Sunderland strip. A big fat woman and a teenage lad started giving the lad grief shouting 'scummer' etc. The lad seemed rather shocked especially when an older man joined in the tirade. What they didnt realise was that the lad in the striped shirt had rather a large Mackem dad and he came out and confronted the three gobby gits who visibly wilted. It was really funny how three people could gang together to frighten a young lad then basically run away when confronted!!
  12. Think we should spend big on Andy Carroll and play him alongside Danny Ings Might get 10 games each of them both per season!!! Great value
  13. Fitz Interested to have your view on the Sam G situation Is he a tad cheesed off about not having a go in the team?
  14. Unfortunately Charlie is a busted flush and apart from running round a lot more in comparison, so is Shane Long. The latter's header from a cross in the second half which more or less hit his foot shows what a goal threat he is. Sam Gallagher must either be injured or not showing up very well in training not to be given a go at a time when Ralph H is prepared to blood youngsters coming thro the U23's.
  15. I guess we are no different to the majority of teams outside the top six but MOTD and the printed press always seem to maximise coverage of their favoured clubs to the exclusion of the 'also rans'. Today is no exception. The Sunday Times report on our game v Spurs amounted to just over 700 words, of which a paltry 23% was related to our performance, about the same ratio as details about Pocchetino having to sit in the stands.
  16. I reckon that Academy player Josh Sims has made more of a contribution in half a game than £15m purchase Elyounoussi has made all season
  17. Could possibly be the first game at the revamped WHL with a crowd limit of 30,000!!
  18. £68.9m net for VVD and Jay Rod So presumably a reported £75m + £10m less payment to Celtic and Agents Fees amounting to £16.1m? Also the salaries paid to our players (and Prem clubs generally) is put in to sharp contrast when one of the Sunday papers reckoned that the top wage earner at Aberdeen, in the Scottish Prem, is £2,500 per week. I reckon a few of our youngsters get more than that.
  19. I thought Ralph Kreuger's task was to increase commercial revenue. Seems like he has not done too well with this but has been given a decent uplift to his already decent salary.
  20. Noticeable that Arsenal had loads of empty seats in their game last night but attendance was given as a few hundred less than capacity. Similarly Man City seem to have quite a few empty seats at a time when they are playing fantastic football
  21. The noise level from the public address system seems to have been cranked up another notch or two last night I would like to be able to have a conversation about the game, at least at HT, but the noise from the manic announcer and banging music makes this almost impossible. Also bearing in mind the age profile of the crowd perhaps some Vera Lynn, Ken Dodd or Mantovani tunes would be appropriate!!! Or bring back the Albion Band!!!!!!!!
  22. Decent win. Generally good performance However Gallagher must be pretty poor in training to get in ahead of Austin and Long Both of them are consistently poor - unfortunately!!
  23. decent atmosphere with a smaller crowd!!
  24. Defensively we are poor but perhaps some of the problem is further up the field Not only are our strikers poor at putting the ball in the net but they have very limited ability of holding on to the ball and it is recycled easily and this puts more pressure on our midfield and back four.
  25. Puel was a poor choice as Manager for both Leicester and us Difference is Leicester have a better squad than us and, with a better Manager, will be OK
