As a long standing Saints fan, it is quite normal to ship loads of goals. Historically we have never had a decent defence. However we normally score a lot too but not so many this year!!

Definitely over 50,000 Saints fans there Crowd was 75,000 and Carlisle only sold 17,000 tickets, which to be fair wasnt a bad effort as Sunday trains from the area were sparse and coaches had to leave about 5am to get to Wembley in time. If you looked round the stadium it seemed as though Saints fans had taken up the vast majority of the stadium and looking at the figures, Saints fan could have made up the 58,000 difference. There were somewhere in the region of 120 coaches which went up from the area, all that could be found on the day and the trains to Waterloo were rammed. Understand quite a few fans caught trains going east terminating at Victoria.

Question is, what is JWP worth in today's market? He certainly ticks a lot of boxes for a relatively young central midfielder. Fingers and toes crossed he doesnt get injured.

The goalkeeping reference is interesting. The only 'keepers who I recollect coming through the ranks and playing more than the odd game for Saints were Bob Charles in the 1960's and Gerry Gurr in the 70's. The club had hopes for Alan Blaney but he suffered from homesickness I think and went back to Ireland. Overall the club's development programme is arguably in the worst state it has been in my memory.

I have always wondered how the best teams of today would fare against the best teams of yesteryear. The yesteryear team would struggle with the fitness and strength of modern players plus the different style of play now in use. A bit like the first ever home defeat for the England national team against foreign opposition in 1953 when the Hungarians, with a 'modern' style of play walloped England 6-3 and then repeated the experience later with a 7-1 win in Budapest. However you put our modern players up against players, say in the 1930's, on a mudheap, a heavy ball and boots and a very lenient Referee who wouldnt penalise a player for over robust play or an 'attack' on the GK (George Kirby style) and that may be a different story.

Agree with comments on KWP I initially thought this was a poor, over priced, transfer. Just goes to show how little I know. Stuart Armstrong has got fitter and better as a consequence. Havent looked it up yet but think this could be one of our worst run of crap results in my memory. When Lawrie McMenemy first took over we were doing OK in the first half of the season and then had a very poor run of results including a home defeat against other relegation candidates, Birmingham, at Easter. We also had another very dodgy spell (I think under Chris Nicholl) after an encouraging start to the season, which was only interrupted by a late penalty by Neil Ruddock in vital game v Newcastle in front of a sparse Dell crowd under lights late in the season.

We were just about OK first half but awful second half. As Danny Murphy said we spend more time on the ball and less on getting the ball in the box. We are also a small side so every ball pumped forward in the air is food and drink for the opposition. Adam Lallana best player on the pitch

I was never too sure of his value to the club. However although he hasnt given me the same pleasure as the likes of Terry Paine, Mick Channon and MLT, JWP's progress through the club's ranks must be appreciated. He has shown commitment, skill and goal scoring ability from set pieces. He also has the happy knack of avoiding injury. Well done JWP.

Wes, Are there people claiming the problem with Liberty Steel is due to Brexit? I have a good friend who sold a business to Sanjeev Gupta and he told me he was a 'character' (ie a Chancer) So as a Remainer this is not something that can be laid at Brexit's door. i do feel a lot of sympathy with the people who's jobs may be affected by the problem though.
