It would also be useful to have an update on: VVD Targett Austin Gardos McCarthy

Renewed mine yesterday Apparently sales are slow. Wonder if this will affect the club's view on expenditure next season?

Liverpool Council is calling it part of their 'Invest to Earn' schemes but some of these have been questioned within Freedom of Information requests as the details put forward by the executive don't seem to measure up to reality. However the same accusation could be pointed at some schemes in this area. The Titanic museum and the Gunwharf Tower in Pompey would potentially fall into this category.

What is the situation with Isgrove? Is he injured as hasn't been featuring at U23 level recently Not really up to Prem football. Possibly OK at Championship/League 1 level -
Latest info I read on Everton is that their new owner (Moshiri? the Iranian guy who was a major shareholder at Arsenal) has said he will finance squad improvement. However the cost of the proposed new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock is likely to be financed by a commercial loan which will be underwritten by Liverpool Council who, reportedly will be getting a sum of £4.4m a year for the privilege. Most recent info is that the commercial loan will be provided by Chinese investors. As an aside Liverpool Council (who's leader Joe Anderson is a keen Everton fan) has also bought Everton's Training Ground at Finch Farm and, it seems, has offered more preferential terms to the club than they were previously enjoying. I doubt if Soton Council would have been as supportive to the Saints although they did provide a solution to the new ground problem by offering up the St Mary's site at a peppercorn rent (or possibly FOC)

Interesting (which is more than be said of the content shown on the station) Thanks

Not sure of the point you are making Charlie but I do vaguely remember Don Roper (and I played in the same side as his son later in life) Cant remember too much about Don Senior's performance on the pitch but recollect I bought a lapel badge with his picture on

Anyone watch it on Freeview? Have dipped in occasionally but so amateurish. Presumably it provides some educational benefit to Solent University Students but wonder who finances it?

I vaguely remember a Ref with one arm - Alf Bond(?) who used to officiate at games in the 50's/60's? Anyone else on here old enough to see him in action? In those days Refs would wear blazers and thick wooly socks and basically officiate from around the half way line. Dear old Alf would find it difficult to officiate these days as he would have difficulty getting out the yellow and red cards and also keeping up with play. Everything was black and white in those days so no coloured cards would be available!!

Ron Davies should have made my list. Great header of the ball but don't think he would have made the transition to the modern game as easily as the others on my list. Oddly I always enjoyed watching Dave Burnside and Ken Wilmshurst play in the 1960's and Derek Reeves/George O'Brien were great players albeit in Division 3 days

I feel really sorry for Jay as his career has not progressed since the injury at Man City I think the club has dealt with his injury well but if I was the Manager I would let him go and try to invest any transfer fee in a new forward

I am a (very) long term supporter of the Saints. It is difficult to compare players at different times/different teams/playing surfaces/types of footwear/footballs etc However I rate Le Tiz/Channon/Paine/Lambert as the players I have most enjoyed watching. Keegan and Shilton were top rate too but have left them out as they were only here a limited time. Same goes for VVD I wasn't able to see Charlie Wayman in action but many of my Dad's generation would really rate him

There is a chap I know who claims to be a Pompey supporter since 1960 and, although he only goes to games occasionally (he seems to go to the Emirates fairly often in recent times) he likes to make continual reference to how many trophies Pompey have won. He cant be blamed for that of course. However I did some research and pointed out that any Pompey fan with his years of following the club behind him (ie 1960 to current date) would have had to suffer the following: .............................................SAINTS ..................................POMPEY SEASONS IN TOP TIER................40............................................8 SEASONS IN SECOND TIER.........15...........................................36 SEASONS IN THIRD TIER.............2.............................................7 SEASONS IN FOURTH TIER.........NIL............................................6 SEASONS IN HIGHER POSITION..50.............................................7 AVEARGE ATTENDANCE........20,466....................................14,248

Thanks for the reply

Is he still active as Club President? Recollect that he was appointed at the time Cortese was here, reportedly as a 'political' appointment. Seems to have been low profile since then but that may be that Terry is not getting any younger and happy to spend his time in South Africa. Very good player btw for the younger members on here who never had the opportunity to see him play.

Shane Long?? Jay Rodriguez?? Matt Targett ?? Sam McQueen ?? Harry Reed?? Jordy Claisie ?? PE Hoybjerg Boufal?? Charlie Austin ?? Jack Stephens ?? Sam Gallagher ?? Must another £70- £80m of 'value' there
-
Appreciate this is very much an open question as it depends on age/length of contract/nationality etc but some of the 'valuations' being bandied about in the media for players seem to be eye watering. Interested in the view from people who keep tabs on such things. According to the main man at Palace, the best value summer signings were Redmond and Wanyama (one in/one out!!)

PEH did the interview in the Sponsors Lounge after the game. Came across as an educated, well spoken and dedicated (to the Saints cause) Thought he had a very in and out day on the pitch but impressed with his demeanour off the field. Credit to the club

Never have I seen Saints playing such beautiful football

I also agree. However we do need a cutting edge which hope Gabbi will continue to provide when fit The team of the Keegan/Channon era were also very good -
Interesting that the commentator on the TV was saying what a joy Saints were to watch (admittedly in the first half) and how they could have performed, throughout the season, with a 15 goal a season striker We are only 2 or 3 players away from being a really good side presuming all our key players stay which is probably unlikely On the reverse side, lose our key players and don't replace them adequately we could end up down at the wrong end of the table but I guess that is the case with all bar the top 6 sides

For my sins I always buy one despite baulking at the £4 cover price Interested to see that the results show we lost 4-0 at Sunderland (boo!!), won 3-2 in the EFLC (horray!!), lost 4-3 at Watford (boo!!), won 2-1 at Spurs (horray!!) Fortunately the BBA result was correct at nil all. You would think that the club's copy checker would be able to get our results right. Hopefully, in a parallel universe, we didn't lose 3-1 last night!!!
-
Don't know what the consensus was re Sakho after last night Certainly didn't look like a £20/£30m defender from last nights performance
-
According to the Liverpool Echo his transfer value was originally £20m but he seems to be doing so well at Palace that the figure is now £30m in line with what you say
