Meanwhile the blue side of Merseyside appear to be up in arms about the 'disrespectful' attitude of Lukaku. The blue noses don't appear to be too fussed about Ross Barkley though even though he is in a similar position!!

This makes sense I doubt if the aggregate/cement/scrap wharves along the Itchen will be moved until such time as ABP's plans for a renewed shot at Dibden Bay has been played out - perhaps in 10 years

Charlie, Interesting Who is marketing the RMC site? I actually thought RMC had ceased to exist. Perhaps bought out by Cemex Do they hold the freehold of the site (adjacent to Baltic Wharf?) I thought the City Council owned most/all the freehold along the west side of the Itchen and the area fell into their regeneration plans which hopefully would benefit the football club

It is frustrating continually selling our best players However there are quite a few clubs who buy players for decent fees and they fail to produce. OK we have a few 'duds' too but by and large our scouting system has been decent and the revenue generated has been used to keep us in a reasonable League position When you think about it there are quite a few clubs (especially on the Continent) who have the same challenges developing and keeping players

Notice that Huddersfield are offering season tickets at £199 reducing to £100 for those who have had a season ticket for a number of years. Meanwhile there is a suggestion elsewhere that clubs work on a general rule of 80% renewal rate. If so this would mean that around 4,800 SMS season ticket holders will not renew (out of a reported 24,000 last season) From comments on here I reckon there may be more than 20% non renewals this year. Normally the 20% loss would be made up by new season ticket holders but I guess the general low level of enthusiasm for next season will badly affect new purchases. Lets hope there will be good news on the player front (and to some the management situation) to provide us all with a positive outlet for next season.

Keeping Track of the Contracts 2024-25

Our two loan players ie Hassen and Caceras - Are they still on loan (and on pay) or have they now departed the building? -
There are probably quite a few older people who have been members of the Caravan Club for many years and could claim to be 'Travellers' If a gang of geriatric caravan owners, complete with their dogs, cats and budgies, turned up en masse and parked their 4 x4's and caravans on green space throughout the UK (or Ireland!!), would the Police/Local Authorities be prepared to take such a tolerant view of their behaviour. I doubt it. As a society we are far too tolerant towards these law breaking/trespassing mainly Irish itinerants

Not suggesting this is a good idea but during part of the generally the turgid first half v Man Utd I reflected back on the days of Branfoot and other periods when the team were playing poorly at the The Dell. There may have been the occasional boo at the end of the game but distinctly remember bouts of slow hand clapping. Despite supporter dissatisfaction, especially this season, cant ever remember the slow hand clap at SMS

End of an era - the last man to play at the Dell retires
spyinthesky replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
Le Tizz's final goal One of the great memories of my time at the Dell. Probably ranks just above the 3-3 draw v Nottm Forest in 1963 and the 9-3 walloping against Wolves There are many more but the timing and quality of the goal by arguably our best ever player brings back the emotions of the time -
IF there are tensions between Manager and players then R & K will have to take this onboard when considering the Managers future. I am sure that in any team there will be some players upset about not playing but if the squad is generally unhappy about the tactics employed and/or training arrangements then this will be reflected on the field of play

End of an era - the last man to play at the Dell retires
spyinthesky replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
I remember being at The Dell when Len Wilkins played his last game before retiring to live in Canada, which must have been in the late 1950's and also remember a Cup game v Blackpool when Stanley Matthews played and a Blackpool supporting duck paraded before the game Wonder if anyone on here can remember seeing Charlie Wayman turning out for the Saints at The Dell? It is sobering to realise that us Dell attendees will soon be in the minority -
Have heard from a couple of people that they have been receiving emails, texts and direct phone calls asking why they have not renewed this season. Both intend to renew but feel that the deadline is too close for them from a financial perspective. When asked why aren't you renewing both said 'The boring style of play at home games' Incidentally both go to quite a few away games and have been relatively satisfied with form away from SMS. I wonder if the pressure on non renewers is common practice or symptomatic of poor sales this year.

Saints 0 Man Utd 0 - Buildup, Match and over-reactions Thread
spyinthesky replied to Heisenberg's topic in The Saints
Overall not a bad performance but was dreading a late and undeserved Man Utd goal which I was sure was going to happen when Rashford's shot hit the post. Normally these rebound into the net but this was one we got away with. Like all Saints fans I was disappointed with the penalty miss (having being spoilt by Peach/Le Tizz/Lamberts expertise) but of the four recent penalties for/against us, three have been well saved by the keeper and only Shane Long's effort was off target. One thing that really frustrated me (again!!) was Boufal. He came on and look lively and I thought this was the type of performance that we will all be looking forward to next season. Then the play broke down in the centre of the Man Utd half and just seemed to give up and made no effort at all to try to win the ball back and just wandered around for a while. I just hope his mind and body can be made to adapt to Prem football as undoubtedly he has talent -
If you look at Puel's tenure here from outside the club most people will think it odd that questions are being asked about his future here. Away performances have been generally OK (apart from the Europa league - although the performance in Milan was good and we should have won) Home performances have been disappointing and Puel has been unable to change the team's style of play to improve matters. Puel's poor grasp of English makes you wonder how he gets his message across but that didn't seem to hamper Pochettino. Whilst we question Puel I wonder how the Man Utd Board/Fans view their high profile Manager? Ok Utd have won a trophy and are in another Final but lots of money spent and generally average performances in the League The side he put out last night would have cost more than others and with much higher wages but they were second best and another blank sheet. I imagine, in those circumstances, a lot of our fans would be calling for the Managers head!!

Apologies if this has been posted before but interested to see some figures compiled by Kieran Maguire (a lecturer at Liverpool University?) regarding revenue earned by 16 of the 18 Prem clubs. For some reason neither Sunderland or Burnley were on the list. According to the figures, Saints (6th in the League) had a gross income of £124.262m (ranked 10th) a Matchday Revenue of £18.882m (ranked 9th) and an average revenue per fan of £614 (ranked 8th) Latter based on an average home attendance of 30,751 (ranked 12th) In comparison Man Utd had the highest home average attendance (75,286) and highest total revenue of £515m. However Arsenal had the highest Matchday revenue at £124.5m and also the highest revenue per fan at £2,076!!! On this basis we are a well established mid ranking club but the gap between us and the top six, in revenue terms, is very significant. btw wonder where Redslo is these days? These sort of financial figures used to be right up his street

Think I would take him on a free with same wages as Yoshida (whatever they are) However reckon Caceras would be able to negotiate a decent signing on fee and large weekly wedge elsewhere.
-
Agree with this If the penalty had gone in I reckon Boro would have thrown in the towel and we could have one or two more. Like many fans I still think we need more physically in midfield and middle of defence. Thought Pied did well for his first full game and Claisie was tidy and Caceras did OK I am not a big Puel fan but his half time substitution of Bouffal for Redmond turned out for the best. Must admit that I didn't think much of their CH, Gibson, who is touted as a big money signing

July 17th Mr Westwood and his gang invade Eastleigh for a pre season friendly!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
We are back in it next season Wonder what team we would field if drawn against Pompey?
-
Won double Player of the Year awards at Liverpool Scored 12 goals despite being away at the African Cup competition and suffering recent injury Described as a 'bargain' I have to say that I was amongst those who thought we received a decent transfer fee for the player at the time. With hindsight I reckon this thought was misplaced

Rumours are that after his wonderful successes in the lower Leagues, Cookie is earmarked to take over at Liverpool when they kick out Clippity Klopp for his teams failing to score in 360+ mins of play against their so called 'Feeder Club!!
-
Wonder if the Pompey News will be running a campaign to get Cook knighted as it did with Henry Redknapp (and suggestions of a joint arrangement with Peter Storrie!!)
-
Not if you count our successes in the Southern league which was the equivalent of Div 3 prior to the Football league being expanded in the early 1920's

Wonder if any other 'oldies' still get the tinge of excitement reflecting back to this date 41 years ago Lovely sunny day. Looking forward to Saints first ever game at Wembley. Expecting a heavy defeat. Overjoyed at the result, probably a feeling never to be recreated in my lifetime, at least.
