  1. Interesting attacking option. What would worry me would be the formation when we are under pressure. West Ham had more or less free reign down our right flank on Saturday and Cedric was often isolated
  2. According to the Echo he could be out for a few weeks. Doesn't get any better does it?

    Boufal

Looked lively at Swansea and again today in an overall abject performance Sods Law the knock he took today will keep him out for a while and this will add to our growing problems
  4. I seem to be in a minority about Foster. Ok he has not been in the same form at previously but I cant see how he can be blamed for the 3 goals today Davis has been an excellent signing for us for the money. By no means was he the worst performer today. He needs the right formation to fit into which may be the overall problem with the current team
  5. Generally I am not one of those who believes in sacking Managers. However if rumours are to be believed that Koeman's job was under threat after the poor run of results around Xmas last year then Les and Ralph must be looking at what the Black Box can offer. In comparison this run of poor results and abject performances is much worse and the team look totally dispirited and demoralised I have a mate who put £50 on us to go down in December at 50/1 to pay for a couple of a few years season tickets in the Championship if things went tits up. Looks like he will be amongst those suffering watching the Saints in the lower leagues if this mess continues
  6. Roger Fry, the ex Saints full back and a local lad, played for Salisbury that day
  7. Keegan by a mile (European Footballer of the Year), followed by Shilton, Osgood, Dave Watson and resigning Channon. Jimmy Melia caused quite a stir at the time (just joking!!)
  8. Well said Fully agree
  9. In these days of greedy footballers, it is nice to look back on the loyalty shown by the Melchester Rovers players who were wearing the famous red and yellow strip back when I was growing up. Men were men in those days. 1. Tubby Morton 15 years 2. Dave Williams 11 " 3. Bob Roberts 11 " 4. Hughie Griffiths 7 " 5. Paddy Ryan 3 " 6. Buster Brown 3 " 7. Pierre Dupont 2 " 8. Blackie Gray 35 " 9. Roy Race 4 Ever 10. Jim Hallet 9 " 11. Tom Dawson 14 " Manager Ben Galloway Really used to look forward to reading about the exploits of Roy Race and his team mates before the game became exploited by the money men
  10. 'Twas there that day. Drove over from Leeds in my 1962 Triumph Herald and pleased to catch up with mates from Southampton. York City had their club flag flying in a corner of the ground which was being taken down (presumably as a sign of 'surrender'), to the cheers of quite a reasonable contingent of Saints fans in the covered shed where the TV cameras were, when York scored the first of their two late goals. We won the replay. Didn't realise that Albert Johannsen was playing left wing for York on the day. For those who don't know he was one of the very first foreign born players to be signed for a top English club when he turned out (with distinction) for Leeds. He was a South African
  11. I think Eric Martins best game was away to Everton(?) We won 1-0 and Eric was given 10/10 in the Sunday People ratings. If I remember correctly Peter Bonetti was one of the first top team 'keepers who wore gloves - thin green ones. Don't forget that the balls were leather then and got heavier when wet. Keepers were also liable to get clattered from opposing forwards. Tony Godfrey, one of our keepers when I first started watching was only about 5'8" tall
  12. I am really sorry for Lloyd but his (non) performances yesterday and against Sunderland (?) were quite poor and he needs to find his level further down the Leagues.
  13. I cannot agree with you more. The thought of Gardos (out for 2 years and hardly top drawer before then) and a young Jack Stephens being lumped together if Yoshida is unavailable, fills me with dread. Jack Stephens did Ok against a non firing Liverpool attack when we were set up to defend. However in games where we adopt a more offensive strategy or we go a goal down he will be more exposed. He doesn't have great pace but at least he is quicker than Gardos
  14. Totally agree with this Have to understand he has been out for around 2 years but he looked very poor today. It would be a disaster if something happened to Yoshida and Gardos had to play alongside an inexperienced Jack Stephens for the rest of the season
  15. We were at a pre season friendly at Sholing when Poch was the Manager and overheard that the Coutinho deal was all but signed until Liverpool came in at the last minute and topped our deal. Perhaps this signing should be added to the overall Saints connection?
  16. Indeed Beggars Cant Be Choosers the injury situation we are in!!
  17. Lost 4-0 to Man City tonight
  18. Good point It is generally the 'Big Club' supporters who have no direct with the area the club is based who are the total arses
  19. Obviously the gentleman in question watched the match last night. The commentator incorrectly mentioned that Josh Sims came through the Pompey Academy when I guess he mistook him for JWP!!! I am sure this will now develop into another Pompey myth. To be fair though it must be difficult to be a Pompey fan at the moment. Saints at Wembley. Brighton on their way to the Prem. Little old Bournemouth doing well in the Prem. Eastleigh upgrading their ground and able to compete with Pompey financially Reading possibly in the Prem next year Aldershot beat them in the FA Cup last year Plymouth likely to be League 2 champions Still at least they remain above Accrington Stanley!!
  20. Rodrigues taken off at HT with an ankle injury This puts more pressure on the squad with the games coming thick and fast and an important League game at Swansea on Tuesday
  21. If tickets were freely available I wonder what the demand would be? Potential to beat the 50k+ we took to the JPT perhaps?
  22. Takes the shine off the win
  23. The Philharmonic in Hope Street, about a 10 min walk from Lime Street, is always worth a visit
  24. Add Boufal, Pied and Hesketh into the mix
