  1. What's all this gloom and doom then?? Are we not being taken over by some-one super-rich tomorrow then? I just assumed yesterday was a blip cos they were all ****ed off because they'll all be out of the door by the time we play again,to be replaced illico by 30 or so of the world's finest and most expensive players.
  2. No indeed. Anyway he's only 23, he just looks 45.
  3. We need to play all of our home games at Nottarf Krap. SMS is hexed, as for the rest, couldn't say, been out at the Cross Country Championships this afty.
  4. 18249 will watch Saints win 3-1.
  5. I remember seeing him play for Arsenal, reminded me of Bambi. Probably bulked out a bit by now though.
  6. 81% is the total, of course we'll only get to estimate how much the "unmentionables" ie Claus and Idiakiez were on when the half year figures for the current year to come out.
  7. Thanks for that Jonah. I was only ever talking about personal debt though. No I don't know everybody in France but most of those that I do know are pretty prudent about personal debt. we have flash bastards as well, although a lot of BMWs and Audis are owned by drug dealers nowadays, it's their trade badge. It would be general unthinkable to most common or garden french people to remortgage their home to go on holiday or for a bigger flashier car. They know that sooner or later there will be drastic government spending cuts and they like to stow away a bit for the future. Now take "student loans".Most HE students are either financed by parents, receive a small "bourse" or grant (dependant on parents income) or they work a bit. University inscription costs about £150 per annum. You can obtain a "pret etudiant" from 2 banks, but the maximum is 2217 euros per year. Nobody comes out of the HE system with 15K or 30K debt, parents have to face their responsibilities on that one. It's one of the big differences in the 2 countries, parents have to take resposibility for their kids, even the big ones. You juqst can't cut them off with nothing, nor can you refuse to aid your parents in later life.It can happen to anyone so most people are fairly prudent about personal debt. No-one would buy a football season ticket on the never never. Not necessary, you can usually pay on the day, it's not overly expensive.
  8. Don't know about the soap, most of them are pretty clean nowadays. CESM will probably be OK though, they wouldn't understand anyway.
  9. Of course I've met the said tourists, how do you think I got to talk to them and know of their debt problems. I have to talk to them about other things, most of them just like talking about thier problems. NB I don't drink in bars or frequent other ex-pats. Sorry to disappoint you. I am totally Francified, TSW is my only contact with the UK (other than the tourists of course)
  10. Can't see it myself. Still who knows. If Lupoli arrives either Saga or McG will leave.
  11. Well we could do with some of that "Global Warming" around here in the frozen Forez. So if there's any to spare anywhere you know where to send it. I see that some dogoodies are trying to ban Foie Gras, just let them come over here and try that, they'd wish they'd never been born.Would teach them a good old lesson in fact.
  12. The "sand thing" came from advert that you used to get in magazines for transforming 9 stone weaklings into Schwarzy lookalikes in only 6 weeks. Charles Atlas was that it???
  13. Well that's not really surprising is it.KJ didn't want to be here so probably slackassed his way through pre-season. A few rough and tumbles against Norwegian pipe fitters and car salesman don't need much "fitness" do they. Thompson is a young player, may be lacking in physical strength. That"s why he's down in that craphole in the first place. If he was a serious contender for regular first team football in the CCC he wouldn't be down at Bournemouth. He'll have to watch out he doesn't get sand kicked in his face this spring.
  14. Not suited to English football, needs to wander off over the Channel to try and rebuild some sort of career.Probably French second division though. In France all footballers are schooled according to the same coaching methods. These are extremely useful and thorough but they're based on forming generation after generation of Platinis,Cantonas and Blancs.Trouble is they need to much time on the ball for our game.Unless a coach understands the two styles of play and has a system for transforming one into the other most of these young players are headed straight for the dustbin. Perhaps Prost had some sort of knack but seeing as we've signed quite a few and none of them have come through I doubt it. Griffit,Folly,Bayesa plus all the young Italians,Spaniards and Argentines that we've had just prove my point. The English game is different and unless you have the kind of young foreign player capable of taking it by the scruff of the neck and imposing his will on it, then most of them will fail.
  15. Whatever you say John, I'm glad to be where I am, been here nigh on 30 years now, same as ART I suppose, maybe a couple of years less. I'd just as soon be here as anywhere else. Anyway if we do started "feeling the pinch" Pastis sales will rocket so the downturn will be short lived.
  16. These are just statistics, important ones no doubt but they do not affect the average househokld in any way shape or form. As for all of the rest I couldn't give a sh*t. I know from speaking to many many people how it is in "France profond" Simple people, living simply without all the trappings and attributes that so many of our countymen seem to need so badly.I work with 107 other people and not oner of them is in any way affected by the "global downturn".
  17. Anyone remember that diving header from about 25 yards? One of my favourite chocolate box goals. Archers end must have been. Can't remember who it was against though.
  18. On the other hand I may just ask him to lend me £25 just until I get my divvy from the Luton and Hemel Hempstead Building Society.:yawinkle:
  19. I think I shall register and ask him what are his views on the Lorentz-Lorenz correction to Einstein's Theory of Relativity then.
  20. Except that he gets fired quite a bit. You know sometimes even the best managers can do nothing whatsoever with a big bunch of absolute tossers that they inherit on joining the club. If the club has sufficient funds a couple of tweaks here and there may give good results but on the whole it's not an instant process. On the other hand there are bad managers who can do nothing at all with real talent but get reasonable results with a bunch of jackasses, ie Mark Hughes. Can't handle talent, plain for all to see.
  21. What like Charlton and us under Gorman and Dodd??? Or even Watford with that wallah they've got now, whatisname Rodgers, Chelsea sidekick of some sort. The "new manager" theory remains to be proved by anything more that circumstantial evidence.
  22. We're talking about Glen Roeder here !!!!!
  23. He got old. Happens to all of us you know. Some player go into a long gradual decline, some just drop like lead bricks. It's a sign of talent and class. You can fake it up until you're about 28 but then only true class will tell.
  24. I forgot Stoke, boy are they going to come a cropper in the near future. They'll not survive 1 season in the CCC when they come back down in May. I think you could build a better side by going round boy scout jumble sales.
  25. Nah, Harry needs real players just now, not boy wonders who may come good in a couple of years time.
