They can't afford to drop too many more points if they really believe that they can finish top 4 (which they won't anyway) so they have to decide whether their best chance of CL football isn't from winning the CL this year (which they won't)

Exactly, personally I wouldn't give any creedence to anything rumoured about West Ham, perhaps they're just trying to influence us in our decision whether to play Lovren or not.
