  1. But this is where England lose out often enough, you need to have a solid career to get into the England Senior side so unless you're a Luke Shaw or a Theo Walcott you probably don't get a call until you're well into your twenties. Wales,Scotland etc they take anyone with a pair of boots as soon as they can climb out of their pram by themselves and give them a run out in a meaningless WC qualifier against Gibraltar or something. Now I've no idea if Bale's 4 grandparents were all welsh or his parents or anything but it could well have been that he might have an England qualification somewhere but as he got sucked into the Wales set-up at an early age England lost out and he'll never play in a major international tournament.
  2. Smash and Grab are Saint's legends, they should be in the banner. McDougall was with us for about 2 seasons, scored 42 goals, Boyer 3 seasons scored 49.
  3. Ted McDougall and Phil Boyer cost a fair bit (in 1970's reckoning), but nothing compared to their scoring record for us.
  4. I mean take last week, he spammed about 4 threads with exactly the same post, Jimmy D told him to knock it off, probably did for about an hour or so. Then again it's up to the rest of us not to read anything he posts or anyone who reacts to anything he posts. http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?49409-Ralph-Krueger-Chairman/page4#.Uycii6h5OSo
  5. Guly's contract runs out at the end of June, unless of course it's been extended that is. I think we have seen too many young saints "stars in the making" fall by the wayside over the years to have any illusion whatsoever about the forthcoming fate of those who haven't made the grade by the age of 21 or so. The more venerable amongst us remember Les Harwood,Mark Peters and many others. You have to be bloody good to play in the PL, if you haven't shown it by the time you're 21 after 10 years or so in various academies you'll probably never make it.
  6. Not from a "resident pilot's" view but do any of these wild speculative theories ever try to work out what someone is doing with 239 souls in the middle of nowhere, to feed them and keep them from running away would need an incredible logistic set up in advance and there would be traces of it somewhere. The actual answer is probably far simpler, hijacked for a terrorist attempt,Indian ocean carrier maybe, Yanks (or Chinese take your pick) saw it and downed it where it will probably never be found.
  7. Point taken but then the ignore function becomes obsolete and time has already been wasted on it hasn't it. I don't mind the odd bit of trolling but Glasgow just pushes the boat out too far.If you ignore one thread he starts another and then another. Control the number of posts started by any user in a given time and you'll get less hassle.
  8. Gets on my wick, I don't know why he just does. I suppose that's his "raison d'être". Does nothing but run the club down, sort of bloke you'd eventually clobber in any bar discussion.
  9. When you successfully extend the ignore facility to anyone quoting the ignored poster the function becomes valid, until then it's totally useless unless every other poster ignores him/her, is that not right. It's a function that just doesn't work in any useful way. Now if it worked on any thread started by the user in question it might at least cut out some of the useless chaff.
  10. Just like Man U the odd red card would be handy though.
  11. Mods need to restrict him on starting threads, say 2 a day, if they won't do us all a favour and ban him that is.
  12. Paper ****** as usual then. Here you go. http://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Schneiderlin-dement-pour-les-three-lions/449933 I'm sure most of you will be able to get the jist from your 3rd form(and beyond) French
  13. Anyway Hull were in the top 10 when we beat them, now they aren't because err we beat them and they didn't get any points.
  14. Please just give it a rest, go and talk to some of those multi-billionaires or something. .
  15. We've got no further then, probably never will.
  16. The irony of the situation is that Morgan is being kept out of the French side by blokes who aren't really French, like Mavuba. He only acquired the nationality in 2005, wasn't born here and has no French parents or grandparents. He's an Angolan refugeee I think, bit like Mo Farah (well not Angolan in that case) Matuidi might be in the same case I think, his parents are Angolans as well.
  17. The best we could really hope for is 7th and one of the 6 clubs qualified getting banned from European competition under the UEFA FFP rules, Liverpool are on thin ice already but I guess they'll get round it somehow. On their last year's figures normally they'd be disqualified for next season.
  18. The islands are a notorious drag on our economy now actually, very high unemployment levels because well we can't all eat 3 tonnes of bananas a day. Heavily subsidised by the mainland and now it's got too expensive and unruly to even go there for your hols.
  19. Yep part of the EU, French Civil Servants even get a bonus for going there, wife did 3 years in Martinique in her younger days on double pay and less tax.
  20. Probably, we have already had all the information we need to back up that idea, these lads were not even considered good enough or ready enough to be put on the bench when we needed them, we actually chose to put players who had about a 1% chance of actually playing because of their injuries on to the bench ahead of these lads. Fonte was never ever going to play in the Cup game against Sunderland but he was on the bench anyway. If you haven't made it with Saints by the time you're 20 or 21 you probably won't make it at all, thus Moore,Stephens and Isgrove being farmed out, just need Turnbull to make up the full set.
  21. Guadeloupe,Reunion,Martinique and French Guyana are part of France, they might have their own teams but they don't play in official competitions. Point a Pitre is in France. They send MPs to the parliament and have exactly the same laws as the rest of the country, they are governed from Paris which is different to the Falklands I think.
  22. I don't think you understand what an official tournament means, we have loads of young french blokes who have played for every Us level for France in official competitions and then who go off to play for their African homelands that they've never even been to before. Official tournament mean only senior level as far as I'm aware.
  23. Which was still in France last time I looked. Anyway that's not the point, nationality is decided differently in France and all those born here are French unless they renounce nationality, used to be a bit more complicated when we still had national service because they had to do that to qualify and many of them didn't fancy it. Saw PSG U19s the other day, all of African descent every one of them.
  24. Spurs played well, just couldn't finish any of it off. Townsend loooked really dangerous.
  25. Spurs could have had a shedload of goals today, mind you that's partly Arsenal's fault because their midfield was too weak. When will Wenger accept that he'll never make a DM out of Chamberlain ? He's handy going forward, defensively he's a liabilty so Wenger has to choose between OxC,Rosicky,Podolski and Cazorla for his 3 AM places. They got out of jail today because spurs couldn't hit the proverbial barn door but on another day they could have shipped 8.
