all this is probably what he would have done if Hodgson hadn't been there, hauling RL off at half time as he deserved to be wouldn't look very good now would he. As I've said before the WC is interfering with our strategy at times. Front men are trying too hard and crisping up.
-
He was probably still hopeful of getting another striker in then. One in one out was what he said, still had 3 days left at that time...oh and we played extremely well on that occasion. If we'd played like that against West Ham and Liverpool we'd probably be on 45 points today, pushing on 7th.

We need to get this round of entirely useless international friendlies out of the way anyway. I really do believe that the stress of getting into WC groups or not getting into them is causing undue loss of form in many of our players. Hope we don't get any injuries on Wednesday though. Other than that I think we will get about 54 points in total, sort of 4 wins,3 draws and 3 losses, providing we can score occasionally that is, think we really need to reshape the team a bit for that to happen. Not keen on Clyne being totally wasted so I'd play him at RB and move Chambers forward a notch against Palace, just to see how that works for us.

Mauricio Pochettino staying as Southampton manager - Official

A german, yes that will fit in with the current tendancy at the club... -
I thought we played well against Arsenal and Hull actually, nothing wrong with the form in those games. Cup I didn't care about so for me it's only in the last 2 weeks that we've gone to pot again, something untoward has happened, we shall no doubt find out exactly what in the near future. Perhaps it's just too many international call ups, could be as simple as that.

I did see the whole game and the only noteworthy action that I can remember from Wanyama after he came on was clattering Suarez and getting booked and then argueing with the ref about it. Massively overweight but then he has been since he first came back from injury.

Not to those who don't want to see it, All I keep reading are references to his past contributions, they mean nothing today whatsoever. If England turn up in Brazil and actually play Lambert as a striker we will be the laughing stock of the footballing world.
-
MP just has to work with what he's got available though, Lambert,Rodriguez and Gallagher....says it all really. those who said that Osvaldo's departure would leave us in the crapper if we didn't get a replacement in were of course roundly abused but it sure looks that way now doesn't it. I never rated Billy Sharp but I'm not sure that he'd not do better than either of the options that we have available actually because Lambert is just a waste of space.

to be fair McClaggan did have a virtually career ending injury before his career even got started.
-
Mid table non European sides have difficulty in signing top drawer strikers, they sometimes only get ones who don't really want to be there. We'll have to look for one with a rape case hanging over him I expect.
-
Cortese quit because he didn't fancy working with the ice-hockey guy, look no further. Oh yes and a few injuries, the odd training ground bust up and a couple of offers turned down for players who actually wanted to leave I expect.
-
Nope, cardboard cutout wearing the Number 7 shirt was just blown about by the wind to simulate movement I think.
-
We miss chance after chance every week, I just cannot understand why Lambert gets a game, it's like playing with 10 men every week.
-
Clattenberg would only give a Saints opponent a yellow card for that.
-
down to 8 now, still 1-1 though.
-
Game is on Canal+ Sport for us anyway.

If he's faced with Sterling today we might get an idea of just how much progression Shaw still needs to make. I thought he was p*ss poor against West Ham, not worse than Chambers mind you but poor all the same. He's not the best defensive LB in the PL (yet) that's for sure. Still think Cole will get the nod ahead of him for the WC.
-
It's where most of the secondary players get most of their games actually, particularly in the early rounds of competitions. We'll just have to see where we are with our structure come June and July.
-
European football, the next step along the path for all ambitious players. To some of us it means nothing, for some players it means everything because it represents a linear progression.
-
Certainly not me.
-
If he can find Central Station by then...
-
I'd like to see him play both Clyne and Chambers down our right, he won't though, the system seems to be set in stone. Usual side but with Chambers in place of Davis.
-
Suarez did play at SMS last year I think, just wasn't anything special, in fact I have a distinct memory of them not being very good at all on that day. Changed a lot since then though, especially with the eclosion of Sterling of late, still they weren't all that brilliant against Swansea last week.
-
Doubt it, in our system the 2 DMs are zoned left and right and who goes forward and who stays back depends on where the play actually is, on close study I think you might find that when one is a bit forward the other drops into the centre circle zone. As we have no wide men the FBs are almost always forward and the 2 CMs have to cover for them so can't go gung ho-ing forward all of the time. If we played with really wide men as do most teams I think you might well see our middle men getting forward a lot more and having more opportunities to try their hand from the edge of the box.

Welcome and absolutely necessary because if we had to play Maya or Jos they will take us apart, not at all convinced that they won't anyway, depends on our strikers really, they need to step up and start putting those chances away.
