A top NPC side could probably better a low level Calcio or Liga side on 9 occasions out of 10 just recently Midlesborough beat Bordeaux I think. I see Michel Bastos (played against us for Schalke last week) is probably going to move to Al Ain. Even though he's pushing 30 that is just a sacrilegious waste of talent. Must be able to get better than that for a transfer fee of 4 million €.

Van Wolfswinkel did score a lot of goals last season and the one before, don't know too much about the homogenity of Portuguese football though. 5 goals in a 7 nil thumping of some Atlantic island minnows isn't worth the same as a winning goal against Man U or Chelsea. Not that I know that he scored his goals like that though.

Are Norwich really less wealthy than us ? I'd doubt that, more PL money and roughly equivalent gates would suggest that they should have at least as much to spend as us. I don't really buy into the our owners are rich and will be handing us shedloads theory for the time being.

Reasonably aesthetic I suppose but very functional except that most of the crew are particularly highly qualified. Whether that's an operational need or just because it's the first off the line I couldn't say. The Aquitaine has what's a virtually hand picked crew for the time being at least..

I wouldn't say that a FREMM is a particularly comfortable ship, the great advantage is the reduced crew number. Apparently the sonars are pretty noisy and the vibrations are pretty heavy when they're on full turbine power. On electric drive they're pretty silent though which fits in with the "furtive" status.
